Obieqb7; After watching you play for the last few years, it is interesting to read your insights on Oberlin football. I have told people that I don't see the dedication and effort and love of the game anyplace else like I see at Oberlin. I have no conection to the college, but I enjoy getting to several games every year. I also enjoy that effort and dedication at games I go to at Heidelberg, and OWU. It must just be that D3 spirit. I would agree that there needs to be some upgrades with the football facilities, but I always thought the natural turf at the stadium was in great shape. Good luck to you in the future, and keep us posted on the Yeoman

March 24, 2011, 03:16:26 PMDidn't Hiram recently announce the installation of turf and lights at Henry Field ? Maybe they want to make sure it is really dark when they try out the new lights.

Ashland does seem to be making steady improvement in their program in the GLIAC. In football, Findlay seems to be going in bits and spurts. They did win the DII National Championship in basketball a few years ago. But Tiffin U. has a lot of work to do in football. They have been woeful the last few years. Heidelberg is by far a better draw in Tiffin. I prefer DIII football, but with the schools coming into DII, (Lake Erie, Ohio Dominican, Notre Dame College, along with Malone and Walsh being accepted to DII), maybe the formation of a DII Ohio conference is a possiblity someday. I think Ohio college football is in good shape, and I'm glad I'm in a location to get to different games and keep up with what is happening on the field.

JA,
Going to Oberlin and Heidelberg for several games each season? Like the underdogs, eh?
I usually go for the underdog, but in this case it is because of location. From where I'm at here in Ohio, I have Oberlin to the east, Heidelberg to the south, and Bluffton and Defiance to the West. I can get to any of those schools for a game, and get home in time for a televised game late afternoon and evening. I have had a couple of double-headers but those don't always work out on the schedule.

d3db,
Appreciate your stadium analysis on this board and the MIAA board. I too like to see/go to different small college stadiums as I travel around. I get to several each season here in Ohio. My favorite would have to be Selby Stadium too. Due to my schedule I didn't make down there this year, but I hope to get there again this coming season. I like Deeds-Piper, and I like going to Savage Stadium over in Oberlin. I get there several times a year. It is a very laid back atmosphere and even though I don't get to see a victory everytime, I enjoy the game. I have been over to Dial-Roberson at ONU and that is a very nice facility. I made it to the ONU - Wittneberg playoff game this last season. I am looking forward to what Heidelberg builds since I go to all the home games down there. I have not seen any plans announced yet, but it is a very nice campus setting where it will built.

Nice win for ONU this afternoon. I was surprised at the light attendance also. Still, that is a nice place to watch a game. What did the Wittenberg linebacker do to get ejected ? Did he bump an official ? I did not get a good look at it.

You are right seventies, Heidelberg can score, running or passing. Having watched a couple games now, the problem does seem to be defense. See Capital, and last week giving up a 24 point half-time lead to Musky. They just do not seem to finish out the game on D.

Just got home from Heidelberg - Muskingum. Nice crowd for homecoming today. It's a good thing the game is only 60 minutes. 'Berg is up 24-0 at half, but the Muskies come back to make it 33-21. For whatever reason (Musky adjustments or Heidelberg less than stellar play) two totally different halfs of football. Preston has another big game though with 3 TD catches. He is just too tall for some of the db's against him and seems to pick the ball off their heads sometimes.. fun to watch. Freshman rb Germany Woods just squirts through the line and makes people miss. Heidelberg goes to Mount Union next week, so I look forward to reading all the UMU posts this week.

Outstanding effort by the Yeoman this afternoon. They were in the game all day long. I thought the Tiger o-line would wear out a much lighter Oberlin d-line, but they stayed in it all day. Light rain/drizzle throughout the game, but both teams held onto the ball. Wittenberg is lucky to get out of there with a win today.

I'm headed to Oberlin today to see the Yeomen and Wittenberg. The last time I saw the Tigers play was at the Mud Bowl in Wooster a few years ago...I hope the rain hold off today.

Real tough loss today for Heidelberg ! I just got home and think penalites and turnovers at crucial times kept the Cardinals in this game and let them win at the end. Preston and Walton are real nice targets for Adam Miller in the `Berg passing game. Nothing to hang your head about with the performance today.

First day to post for me. I have been reading for several years. I won't be as entertaining as some of you guys but I can tell everybody is a fan of D3 football. The last several years I plan a season schedule and usually get to a game every week. I'm in Northwest Ohio and I get to all of the Heidelberg home games, and the weeks I'm not in Tiffin I get to OWU, Oberlin, and work other games in during the season. I always get a trip in to Selby Stadium to watch OWU. The first night game tomorrow should be fun. I hope the Bishops get headed in the right direction. Maybe they can get a start tomorrow night.
Nice to meet everybody and I'll be following along all season.

First time poster here. I have been reading for several years, so finally thought I would post.
I won't come close to the wit and humor of the rest of you guys. It has been a good read all these years. I wanted to ask SeventiesRaider if he knew when the stadium construction would start at Heidelberg ? I have been going to the home games for several years, and Mayer Field is a great setting, but seats are at a premium. Parking isn't bad either. Last week for BW they had two sections of portable bleachers and a temporary pressbox structure.
The last several years I have a schedule planned out for each week of the season and get to a game about every week. I'm in Northwest Ohio so Heidelberg is only about 25 miles away. The weeks I'm not in Tiffin, I can get to Oberlin, OWU (Selby Stadium is a great venue), Bluffton and Defiance. I can usually pick up a Tiffin U, BGSU and Toledo game occassionally also.
