Clark puts up 260 on the ground today, its nice to see him gaining big yards against GAC and HU, now he just needs to stay healthy early in the season so he can put up those numbers against teams that matter.

On another note, I was VERY upset to see Olaf getting flagged for 6 PFs.  I personally only saw two because of shoddy camerawork.  One was a legit facemask, note much to say about that- they happen occasionally.  The other was a helmet to helmet that was just a bit sketchy.  This was towards the end of the game when things were starting to get a bit chippy, and I think the officials overreacted.  The others were all off-camera and i can't comment.  But 135 yds in penalties is terrible, and something that OJ will have to deal with this offseason.

Willy-

No one this season has been able to rush much against the Oles-- although the SJU fullback did pretty well I think.

I had gotten attached to seeing that troll in our trophy case, even though it is possibly the ugliest traveling trophy in college football.

Well now the Oles have an offseason to look at an EMPTY trophy case where a goat and a troll once resided.  Hopefully that will give them some motivation for next year.

The GAC game was always my personal favorite since both of my older siblings and their spouses went there.  I predict the Ole defense will utterly stifle GAC.  I am thinking a return to early this season...-15 net yards rushing for the mighty Gusties.

Offensively the Oles need to find a way to get the ball to Clark and Jennings in open space.  If those guys have a little room to work with, there is no one more explosive in the MIAC.  The O-line should find the going a little easier against the gusties than they did with Concordia and SJU, expect some big holes to open up for Leon.

Well, once again the Ole defense looked solid but the offense could do little.  With the exception of a few fantastic passes by Garret (preview of future success I hope) Olaf couldn't establish a rhythm on the O-side.

A costly block in the back on a Clark kick return for a TD hurt the Oles big time.  As least the defense performed well again, keeping us in the game until the very end.

Now on to GAC

Silent K- Carleton will never be superior to Olaf, even if they win every sporting even for a decade straight.  I don't expect you to understand this, just go with me on it.  ;)

Better watch what you say, with about 4 seniors on the Carleton football team this year and Ramler recruiting this looks like a possibility.

Nahhhh, the Eagle will turn again soon

Oh Cobbernation, don't even think about opening THAT can of worms.  St. Olaf's superiority to Carleton goes far beyond the gridiron.  And yes, I am aware that CC won the last two meetings.  But even a blind squirrel finds a nut (or two).

"Sigh"  The Oles really need to evaluate their offensive system.  I give credit to a tough SJU defense, and acknowledge that no offense is going to run perfectly with the backup QB in, but still.  They have got to find a way to get the ball in the endzone or else it doesn't matter how well the defense plays.

Once again, the Johnnies find a way to win.  It may not have been pretty but good programs get the "W" even if it is ugly.

Time to focus on kicking the Cobbers back to Canada

Try the Ole website, you may have to deal with our awesome announcers, but the broadcast is generally reliable

Keith says SJU will be upset this week-maybe?-either go with your gut or don't. I would be worried if Pat were making this statement, though. :)

You mean like when Pat picked the Johnnies to be upset by Bethel?  Or when Keith picked the Johnnies to be upset by Concordia?  Or when Keith picked the Johnnies to be upset by UW-Eau Claire?

(Not that I necessarily agree with those picks, I just find it funny that one or the other has chosen them as a likely team to get upset in more than half their games this season.)

Well, better to be constantly picked as an upset VICTIM rather than seen as a perennial upset VICTOR.  I mean, imagine how the Tommies feel every season.

Going with my unbiased and impartial gut feeling, I am throwing it out there:  Olaf 16- SJU 9

And we all know that's a BIG gut feeling,   ;)

Interesting that tmerts has been silent since he went on the offensive after SJU's complete and utter destruction of the Caruso Construction Crew last weekend ::)

MM - I won't be making it up to Auggie Tech this weekend. I can only handle a certain number of ugly GAC performances in a given year...and the basketball season hasn't even started yet.

Typical gustie, frustrated by his team's sloppy performance so he lashes out with personal attacks  :'(

Miacmaniac, you keep dreamin' buddy.  This game is going to be close.  And the Oles are going to come out on top.  Clay Garret is going to usher in a new era of high powered offense under Jerry Olzewski and this time, it will be matched with a stifling Ole D.

The success of the Ole offense is truly going to live and die with the line tomorrow.  With Garret getting the start, he is going to rely on the veterans up front to protect him and be the on-field leaders that this team needs.  That being said, Clay has a great arm and if he can overcome the jitters of making his first collegiate start up in Collegeville, he should have plenty of opportunities to showcase his throwing ability.

I have to think that SJU will make shutting Clark and Foss down their top priority, which may leave them vulnerable to being hit deep.  I expect at least two long completions from Garret to Jennings.

Its gonna be a great game, I am really wishing i could be there.

Clark hasn't been himself lately.  I think the nagging injury from the UST game has bothered him.  I think this bye week will do him well and he should be close to 100% for the game.

It is true, the Olaf teams of the past 2 years do seem to be polar opposites of the teams in the Meidt Era.  I think that is primarily due to a stark difference in our talent.  Not to say that the talent has been down recently, but rather it has been focused in a different area.  We don't have three receivers who could all probably start anywhere in the MIAC (but  current Ole Jennings has got a lot of talent) and a QB like Penz or Wilsey who can sit in the pocket and chuck the ball 75 yards.  Instead we have a slew of solid RBs and a QB who is as dangerous with his legs as he is with his arm.

Even before Meidt left, he talked with us about the need to switch focus on our offense to a more "down to earth" style of play.  He clearly recognized that he no longer had the players to run his record-setting scheme anymore.  Like any good coach, he was willing to adapt his system to match the abilities of his players.  I think had Meidt been here, you wouldn't see a whole lot of difference with how Coach OJ runs things now.  Regardless, and you guys will hear this from me a lot, Olzewski has done a stellar job with his first head coaching gig and I expect Olaf will soon be challenging for the MIAC title again.

for those of you whining about SJU rent a cops and policy changes:

I will start to get worried if and only if they start limiting the tailgating at Lambeau.  That will be the sign of the apocalypse.
