I'm surprised no one's thrown Luke Flockerzi's name in the mix for the Williams job.  Former Grinnell player; former assistant at Amherst, Rochester, Sewanee; current head coach at Skidmore and already resuscitating a program that stopped breathing years ago.  From what I hear, Flockerzi would be an awesome fit, and if they interview him -- again, from what I hear -- he would impress.  Call it a sleeper pick among the worthy candidates whose names have already been thrown around.

And another thing, why no other women posting up?  I'm sick and tired of being part of the gender minority on this here board (yawn, bored).

Are they capable of shooting 54% against Amherst?  They sure as heck are.

Please watch your language.  This is a family board, and as a woman, I am deeply offended.  We don't go spouting obscenities on the NCAC board.  By the way, did they finally get uniforms in that conference, or are you still wearing jeans and t-shirts?

It's official, this result just in!  In the AtR preplay (on the money so far, 6-6 in postseason DIII play) Wooster has downed Amherst by the score of 89-77.

Close most of the way, the Scots slowly edged away from the Lord Jeffs to produce the final twelve-point gap.  The differences were a rebounding margin of 33-36 and Amherst having a poor shooting night from range, going only 7-27 from beyond the arc.

Wooster was led, surprisingly by Devin Fulk, who nailed 7-12 three-pointers to total 23 points.  James Cooper threw in 17, while Tim Vandervaart and Evan Will added 15.

Dan Wheeler topped Amherst with 17 and Brian Baskauskas and Kevin Hopkins contributed 15.  Andrew Olson had 8 assists.

I'm hoping to do Virginia Wesleyan vs Washington U. today.

The boxscore:

http://arkski.com/~jwood/amherst_(77)_vs_wooster_(89).html

MrMike, you changed your log-in name to Wooster Booster?  It's about time!

Geronimo and Baby Ipcah ran a similar simulation on a program called "Don't Step to Ballaholic unless you have a wealth of sneakers, towels and tape."

Our final score was Amherst 87 - Wooster 79.  Predictably, Devin Fulk pooped his underwear and finished a lowly 1-for-11 from beyond the arc.  Andrew Olsen was credited with 11 assists, but the computer-generated statistician missed a few.

I breast-fed Baby Ipcah during halftime.  All is well in the world.

Pat and PG, just feel free to ignore the posts of Spengler, Geronimo, etc., as the rest of us already do, or just enjoy the absurdity for sheer entertainment value.  For example, Geronimo mysteriously bashes very sound analysis from Mr. Mike (without providing any explanation of why she thinks Mr. Mike is off base), who always provides useful insight into Amherst and its competitors without resorting to ridiculous claims of invincibility.

It's no mystery, Nancy Drew.  The only thing sound about mrmike's analysis is the sound of how stupid it is.

mrmike waits in the wings until it's time to jump out from behind a bush and second guess.  He does it every year, and it's always whiney and moronic.

People think Geronimo picks on mrmike, but they have short memories, while Geronimo's is as long as the road that runs paralell to the highway that runs next to the sidewalk that snakes paralell to the River Nile.  I'll take that shot from Dapper Dan Wheeler any day, and so would any other sensible observer.  Has mrmike been watching the freaking games while spitting his luke-warm milk (the direct opposite of hot fire) all over his WAMH mic?  The answer, apparently, is no.

"Dye-lan, Dye-lan, Dye-lan!"  http://www.qarxis.com/chappelle_da_band

The baby is crying again.  And I don't mean Baby Ipcah.

Again, in yet more immortal words from Ricky Bobby:  "Dear Lord baby Jesus, or as our brothers in the south call you, jesuz, we thank you so much for this bountiful harvest of Dominos, KFC, and the always delicious Taco Bell. I just want to take time to say thank you for my family -- my two beautiful, beautiful, handsome striking sons, Walker, and Texas Ranger, or TR as we call him. And of course my red hot smokin' wife Carley, who is a stone cold fox."

However, as an Amherst fan I'm very nervous now.  The way they handled the final few possessions of the game left MUCH to be desired.  I hate to be critical since I myself am a horrible basketball player and it isn't fair of me to call out hard-working classmates of mine, but I just don't understand what happened in the final few minutes.  First, how do you fall asleep on the big man?  Walters (who had checked into the game for Hopkins for some bizarre reason) went to contest Shalvoy's shot (Salerno was already in his face) instead of go for the rebound, and that left Gogheaghan alone for the easy put-back.  Then, it looked like poor decision-making on the final shot that left Wheeler with a turn-around fade-away heave.  How was that the best shot they had?  Where was Hopkins/Olson, and why didn't Wheeler go to the rim?  And why didn't Amherst call the timeout after Rose missed the shot?  I can second-guess all day, but it really could come down to all those missed free-throws.

Wow, mrmike, I guess crack is free nowadays.  This is your most moronic post yet, and I ain't the only one keeping track.

I was gonna use posting up as a tool to teach Baby Ipcah to read, but I guess I'll just have to use Dr. Seuss books.
I'd like him to steer clear of the bad kharma associated with such impotent second-guessing.

In the words of the immortal Ricky Bobby:  "Dear little baby Jesus, who's sittin' in his crib watchin the Baby Einstein videos, learnin' 'bout shapes and colors.

While Olson sees passing lanes that other guards don't see and makes great passes, he didn't display the leadership required down the stretch to get a heavily favored Amherst team on their own court to the victory lane.

They're giving crack away for free nowadays?!!  How come nobody told me???

Alright Friar, answer me this. If Kevin Hopkins is so good, what is he doing at Amherst.

Your realization doesn't change the fact that this was perhaps the most moronic post in the history of d3hoops.com.

Your post could conceivably be tied, but it can never be surpassed.

Even guys who routinely put up crappy posts are like, "Man, that was a crappy post."

You're like the Tex Cobb of posters.

Geronimo - Never said suck, I said mediocre.

So only "mediocre" guys play in the NESCAC?

What brand of shovel are you using?

Pretty moronic post.  You must be channeling Borat.

You could say that about any player in Division III -- "If this guy is so good, what's he doing in DIII, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, wah, wah, wah, wah, wah."

If my aunt has no unit, why are we calling her uncle?

I'm assuming you post on d3hoops.com because you respect the level of play in DIII and in the NESCAC.  According to your argument, players (6-10 or not) are only in the NESCAC 'cause they suck.

Lamest post in a long, long time.

Top 10 Reasons Amherst Lost on Purpose:

10 - Didn't want to be giving as many points in the NESCAC tourney
9 - They were embarrassed by their 3 or 4 toolbox fans who give a bad name to the amherst faithful
8 - Not wanting to lose their starting spots to recruit Dave Litt, who was rumored to be in attendance, they blew the game on purpose to try to convince him to re-neg on his commitment
7 - Emmanuel Lewis
6 - They were confused by Dr. Spengler's obscure references on Posting Up and wanted him to stop
5 - Amherst was protesting the absence of Salerno and Anthony in the original NBA All-Star lineup
4 - Nobody wants to enter the tourney with no losses
3 - Jeffs were sending a message to Geronimo, telling him to back off MrMike or else
2 - It was time for them to admit that Bedford, Zalaski, Cas and Corrigan were the heart and soul of last year's team, and decided to prove this by losing to the only decent team in a weak NESCAC field
1 - The Jeffs thought that losing would earn them sympathy and give them a better shot with the Trinity girls

to be honest, I am glad to get the one loss of the year out of the way...playoffs here we come

Actual Top 10 Reasons...

  • Walzy's line on the game ignited a betting frenzy (that's all I'm allowed to say about that)...
  • Dr. Hoops (er, alcoholic, er, ballaholic) kept calling three seconds (and he had all Amherst's towels, tape and sneakers)...
  • Still trying to replace Harper's mustache at point guard...
  • Several Jeffs slipped on Formerbant's $500/month contract with the Muscogee Riverbandits (or it may have been the wet spot from when my water broke)...
  • Old Guy slipped one of Amherst's reserves a mickey just before gametime and used a mission impossible disguise to take his place on the court...
  • Chucky P. instructed the Bantams that hindsight is 50/50...
  • Friar T. inadvertently prayed for the wrong team...
  • NESCAC hoops rhymes with poops...
  • Amherst was finna drop in the polls with a win anyway...
  • Monkey off the back, just in time for the postseason...
  • Baby Ipcah!!!

Hmm -- kinda sounded mocking to me, but what do I know? Much like Amherst students were mocking the photographer on the baseline.

I did have the baby on Friday evening.  Nine pounds, 11 ounces.  Unlike mrmike's play-by-play, it was a very smooth delivery.

I named her "Impartial Pat is a Closet Amherst Hater."

We're going to call her Ipcah for short.

Formerspife,

Can you bring an extra pair of sneaks for me when we take on ballaholic?

Did you download the plays I sent you?

It'll be an uphill battle against alcoholic's (er, ballaholic's) array of nuances -- not to mention all his towels, tape, sneakers, socks, wristbands, baby powder, rec-specs, G-shock heart-rate monitor, Wigwam 7-footer socks, Bike compression shorts (aka package crunchers) and so on.

"Nobody calls three seconds in a pickup game."  "ballaholic does."  "This is how pickup games or won."

Check out ballaholic in his latest commercial.  "We got next.  Neeeeeeeeext!"

nescac hoops: JeffRookie and I are going to call the Amherst-Trinity game Saturday from Hartford, if all goes to plan.  I personally love the matchups with the Bants.  Just like Tufts the last two years, Trinity-Amherst is always a battle.  I think they definitely merit the high regional ranking they got this week.  They have a ton of talented players and there should be several good matchups out there on the court on Saturday.

Also:

  • Grass is green
  • Clouds are fluffy
  • Bears crap in the woods
  • Lemons are sour
  • Old people have brittle bones
  • Daoustian is a legend
  • mrmike has never spoken to a girl and is fluent in Vulcan

Thanks for another piercing post.
