Just heard that either Macon or the conference had two helicopters flown in to try to dry the field.  Looks like some good measures are being taken to make sure this edition of the game is a memorable one.

Good luck Jackets.

Anyone know how the Randolph Macon field will hold up with all the rain that they have gotten the past two days?

The field is going to play slow Saturday.  With the sun not being out today and early tommorow, I think its going to be a little sloppy.  I am going to take a trip back to the 2005-2006 season.  Macon's first game was against Frostburg after a huge thunderstrom the day before.  The game the scoreboard didnt work and the time and score were kept on the field.  That game played pretty well with the field holding up fairly nicely.  A little muddy around the endzones and sidelines but other than that, not to terribly bad.

Just like HSC85, I also played in four editions of "The Game"  And I do have to agree, if you went 1-9 with that one win being over Sydney, you could count it a successful season.

As far as Arruza being politically correct...I think you are just seeing the "speaking to the media and public" side of him....I think he is as interested in this rivalry as anyone

Thanks RMCFan.

I just got a message from someone at RMC and I was told the tickets will be $10 and children under 12 will be free.  I understand the additional cost because the crowd will be much larger than the other home games.  There will be additional costs involved such as temporary bleachers, security, parking and cleanup.  I hope both teams play well and are injury free.

However I am pulling for a HSC Victory.

Thanks for the update...I appreciate you letting me know.

I am also hoping both teams play well, and hoping that Macon wins.

HSC85 -  In honor of my enlighting you with the information, how about getting in touch with Farvrett and telling him no first quarter onside kicks...  Deal?

HSC85-

I am going to be speaking in terms what it was like two years ago with the ODAC on the line.  I know some HSC fans made their presence felt on the football practice field which is right near the baseball field.  I do not know if that same area will be open for tailgating again this year but thats where it was two years ago.

RMC tailgates in a parking lot which is between one endzone and the train tracks.  That same parking lot runs right up to the area proposed HSC tailgate area I mentioned above.

Parking is going to be difficult.  My best advice would be to try near the softball fields and walk over.  There isn't much room on the campus as it is.  Ticket prices are $5 as far as I know.

Congratulations to the Hampden Sydney Tigers for a great win on Senior Day.  It has been a pleasure to watch all of the Seniors play these past 4 years.  Now the Tigers must play their best game of the season this week in an extremely difficult environment.  Stay focused and take care of business.  Go Tigers.  This is the third year in a row that the winner of this game will go to the playoffs.

And to that point - it is the third year in a row that the two teams will be RMC and HSC.  Sydney won two years ago in Ashland and Macon won last year in Farmville.  Going to be another great edition of "The Game"

I'd like to see everyone's thoughts on this going into the last two weeks of the regular season:

Anyone got front-runners for POY and COY?

I have an opinon but I'm going to hold mine for a few posts.

Just read the D3 football team of the week...I want to give a big congrats to Joe Pricone, defensive lineman for RMC who earned the honor.  Pricone had 5 tackles, a sack, an interception and a pass break up.   Solid game.

First off, I would like to congratulate the Jackets on a great all around game on Saturday.  The Jackets ran the ball extremely well, Faulkner was effective and the defense played great.  This looked like an RMC team of old.

Next, I would like to pull my foot out of my mouth talking about RMC and their lack of running game.  Welcome to the ODAC discussion Thaddeus Scruggs.  The ODAC has put so much hype around Caleb Jennings but Scruggs was the one who stole the show.  The offensive line opened up some gaping holes and Steve Matthews blocked his tail off.  Scruggs is a strong runner (the same that Thornton was) but is much faster.  Although Scruggs didn't break off any real long runs, you could tell that if he ever gets a clean break through the hole that he is taking it to the house.

It was the game of the season (I am ashamed to say) that I got to see in person.  I know Earl Peoples has lit up the stats book but watching him in real life was awesome....great routes, great blocking and extremely sure handed, an all around complete wide receiver.

Now the defense...what a game.  Holding Emory and Henry on a goal line stand to preserve the shut out.  Joe Pricone played absolute lights out with an outstanding one handed interception.  Coach Mollet has that defense right where it needs to be heading into Bridgewater, Guilford and HSC.

Just a question to anyone who was at the game...as I was heading out of the stands, I saw a player get injured lated in the 4th quarter.  Was that Pricone?  I couldn't see the jersey number.

Thanks for the synopsis.  ;D Macon has slowly put together a solid season this year, and it does appear your earlier questions have been answered! ;)  Now if we can just get two more, before I get up to Ashland for The Game! 8)

Thanks Jacketlawyer....I too am looking forward to that second week in November.  Lets see if the Jackets can play two more great weeks like they did this past weekend.

Jacketlawyer,

I would have to agree with your analysis of the Jackets so far this season.  I think we have finally found some offense and the defense seems to be progressing by the week.

There are a couple of things that bother me though

1)  Where are the Jackets going to turn for offense when teams start blanketing Peoples?  While throwing the ball is great, distribution has to come into the equation eventually.  Out of Faulkner's 29 passes thrown on Saturday, 23 of them were to Peoples.  That only works for so long.

2)  What happened to the RMC running game?  I know with the loss of Thornton the running game was supposed to take a hit, but not to the effect it has.  Macon went to having one of the best ground games in the conference to running for 70 yards over the weekend?  At some point Macon is going to need that run game, its just a matter of when.

3)  Macon has gone from one of the stingiest defenses against the run to almost dead last in the conference giving up over 180 yards a game on the ground.

All that being said....I think the Jackets have turned themselves into one heck of a team.  I'm excited to get up to see them throw the ball around a bit in a couple of weeks.  Don't know if anyone has checked the ODAC report lately and seen the standings - could we come down and have another championship decided at The Game?????

Congradulations to Earl (and the entire Macon squad)....thats one heck of a day at the office.  That is now his second game over 200 yards this season.

I think it is safe to say that the landscape of Randolph-Macon football has changed.

Macon - Hopkins Update

Randolph-Macon has found their offense and it is the Faulkner - Peoples connection.  At the half Macon has tied Hopkins at 21.  Macon got the ball with 38 seconds left in the half down by 7 and Peoples streaks down the sidelines for 70 yards and then Macon puts it in to end the half.

How about this stat line for Earl Peoples - 6 catches for 190 yards, IN THE FIRST HALF!

Lets see if Macon can hold on to a wild one in Baltimore

Someone had to have seen Macon play King's.  Far from a blowout loss.  Could someone fill me in? ;D

R-M starts a tough road swing with Hopkins, Shenandoah and Catholic all on the road.  Projections?

Projections?  RMC goes 0-10 this season, losing to HSC by 64-0 in The Game!

Thats a pretty bold prediction there 78.  Are you by chance a Sydney grad with an RMC title?

I'm truly an RMC grad and was attempting to start a little conversation on the board.  Got to throw the HSC guys a bone every once in a while.  ;D

In a not so subtle way, I was predicting (unfortunately) that RMC will indeed struggle this year.  The loss of Thornton will be sorely missed and will be felt more so early in the season.

Can only hope Pedro can kick some butt and turn things around!  No excuse for losing to King if you're trying to improve the program.

Now lets not get premature here 78, you have to have a little faith in Arruza.  Wasn't it only last year that Macon started 0-2 (with one of those losses being to Kings), eventually 2-4 to come back and win the conference title?  I know that will be a tall task but I have seen Matthews run and I have seen that offensive line grow and play together so its possible.

Week one games are supposed to be sloppy and mistakes are supposed to be made.  You watch film to correct those mistakes and improve from week to week.  Don't write the Jackets off yet!  I know Arruza and I know his coaching style...patience.
