Members of this esteemed, revered community of loyal division 3 fans, why so much hostility? Everyone on here seems a little upset. Did I get you guys all worked up? Ruffle some feathers? Spark a match under some behinds?

To all of those who busted on Cru Info for plagiarism...thank you.  Some of us work too hard actually crafting our thoughts to have them stolen.  Come on Cru Info represent UMHB well, not like a clown.
Why don't you get off your high horse!!!! Come on down from your soap box!!! Some of us worked hard to get what we have.... Cry me a river....

This board should thank me for sparking up all this recent debate. I feel I've done my job.
As I said before, for the latest news on Cru Football, stay tuned to:

At UMHB, each week holds the opportunity to crush our championship hopes and grind our would-be glass trophy into the hard jagged edges of cutting defeat. And even if, the Cru traverses the slings and arrows of outrageous football fortune and emerges unscathed, we still might end up getting screwed by the idiocy of the current NCAA Selection Committee, or a referee's complete mishandling of a call. But for a month, before the season really begins in earnest, these thoughts are ignored.

The No. 1 debate that rages across the college football universe in my opinion is whose conference is better, right? I've jumped into this fray, much to the annoyance of several d3board fans, by crafting an extremely powerful and intellectual argument. Namely, that the WIAC sucks except UWW and the rest of the conference gets by. I feel the same about Mt. Union's conference. Many could make the same argument about the ASC and UMHB.  But if you're like me, you see that the relative strength of conference argument motivates virtually every fan debate across the sweep of our college football country. How many other sports in American history spend as much time arguing about outcomes with no real way to ever provide any validity to these opinions?

cru, I don't think that you have seen enough D3 football outside of the ASC.

You don't understand how much talent there is in D3.

They named only 50 players.  This list is not like so many other lists that have 19 guys as first teamers and another 21 guys on the second team, plus a thrid string and Honorable Mentions.

Hey, and just as a reminder, we named an ASC guy to the team who ran for 109 yards last year. Did anyone else name Quincy Daniels a preseason All-American?

I'm glad I was able to spark so much debate. UMHB nor HSU has won a NAT'L Championship, so I understand how you come to the conclusion that the ASC is the No. 3 conference. Pat, I respect you and your staff's opinion; I still feel Feaster is better than the other two selections. MUST BE CLOSE TO THE SEASON!!!!

Ralph, I have been privileged to travel across the country numerous times to see DIII games, outside the ASC. It is my opinion that TEXAS ASC teams have such a better crop of athletes to choose from than many other parts of the country. I feel Texas football players are better athletes in general. Obviously champions are measured by winning games, i.e. Nat'l Championships / Conference Championships.

I guess we all know what d3football.com thinks of the ASC with only 3 preseason selections. Wow what a snub job!!!  I'm positive I'm leaving a few extremely talented players off the list. It shocks me more ASC players weren't selected.

Tucker/Parker as return specialist - snubbed
Feaster is the best QB in the country - snubbed
Beckworth was a 1st team selection as a sophomore – snubbed
Dustin Davis is the best center in the country – snubbed

But these guys can set the record straight with their play on the field!!!

I am at the THSCA convention right now doing work with my part-time job.  There will probably be in excess of 11-12,000 coaches at the conference.  The total membership of the THSCA is over 19,000 coaches making it the largest high school coaching convention and organization in the country.

They always have lecturers of this quality and it is indeed an honor for Coach Fred to speak.

I would love to hear the highlights of the speech if you go roocru.

Less than 30 days until players report and only 55 days until the Cru takes the field  ;D

Crufootball, I was participating in a work related lecture at the convention at the same time Coach Fred spoke and did not get to hear his lecture.

Cru Info Update:
Some of my friends who are high school coaches around the state that played at UMHB were in attendance. They said he talked about the special relationship between high school coaches and college and university coaches across the state and how special a place UMHB is. He talked about how special D-III players are; playing football and going to school all while paying their own way (no scholarships!). He also talked about the offseason program at UMHB and what it takes to be a champion.

If it hasn't already been announced on here,
UMHB has three incoming freshmen playing in the
TEXAS HIGH SCHOOL COACHES ASSOCIATION ALL-STAR FOOTBALL GAME
Tuesday, July 21, 2009 - University of Texas, Austin, TX - 7:30 PM

For the North All Stars: (Black Jerseys)
# 65 Brett Gunn Center 6-1 275  Temple HS

For the South All Stars (Red Jerseys)
# 12 Colby Summers  FS  6-0  185  Mart  HS
# 33 Dustin Stapp  FB 5-10  195  Junction HS
Congrats you future Crusaders!!!

Nice job recruiting by Pete and his coaches, I noticed on the THSCA website where it listed the roster for the game that no other ASC team has any incoming freshmen listed on the all-star rosters.

Side Note: About 7 or 8 guys that committed to UMHB participated in the FCA Victory Bowl in Waco a few weeks back. It's the Central Texas All-Star game. The article was written by Bryce Cheri on Waco Tribune Herald. His article talked about a Charles Hitches QB Marlin HS and Tyler Coker TE Salado HS, how well they played. There were a few others in the game that are headed to Belton in a few weeks.  Nick Hall DE Harker Heights HS, Norris Alexander DE Waco University, Brett Gunn OL Temple, Harvey Lee LB McGregor HS, according to the Local News Outlets in Central Texas.

UMHB has always done a great job recruiting central Texas.  Quincy Daniels of Belton HS, Jerrell Freeman of Waco University HS, Jarvis Thrasher of Temple HS, and Freddie Rollins of McGregor HS just to name a few!!!

I wonder how many freshmen and newcomers will report to camp. Seems like the coaches did another excellent job recruiting! From what I hear UMHB will start up on the 17th of August with their first workout! Football is right around the corner, SMELL IT!!!

How good is the new QB or has a definite starter not been named at the great Mt Union? What about running back, any of you guys got the scoop?

Who are the Big New Names, not the preseason All Americans, the guys who year in and year out emerge out of nowhere?

"  That doesn't seem like a big disparity to me.  "

The disparity is the playoff appearances; HSU has two in the last three years. Linfield has none. Championships are won by those who compete for it in the NCAA Football DIII National Championship Playoff. Linfield has no appearances the last three years. That's criteria on which I state my humble opinion; HSU is flat out better... The series count is 2-1, best out of three you take your marbles and go home. If it reaches 3-1 there leaves no room for doubt. But that's HSU job.
I hope it's a really great game! Wish it would get a live feed on d3football or maybe a website so I could watch at the Cru games on my phone.

Last year's game HSU got the job done vs Linfield.  However, I'm not just going to keep my mouth shut when others claim there is some deep chasm between the programs quality....there isn't.

Sir, hello. My name on this board is not others. It's Cru Info. The reason I assume you were talking to me is because I'm the only person who stated such... HSU is flat out better...
Here are my reasons:

Linfield did beat UMHB in the '04 Natl. Championship game, however since that game UMHB has gone on to win 4 straight American Southwest Conference Titles and has appeared in 2 Nat'l Semi-final games. HSU posted two  back to back 8-2 seasons (05-06) two NCAA playoff appearances since 2004 losing to UMHB,  while Linfield has struggled to a second and third place finishes since '05, making the playoffs only once in '05, falling in the first round, and yes  a loss on their belt vs. HSU IN '08.

ALERT...ALERT...ALERT.......This is a public service announcement for the following posters... wilddcat11... The Nat'l Weather Service has issued and extended Heat Advisory for Bell County, and all of Cru Country through the start and remainder of the '09 season... Be advised... Stay tuned to Cru Info on D3Boards.com for more details... This has been a public service announcement for the following posters... wildcat11....

Cruinfo,

I understand your fervor but you have already received the answers to your question about a 3rd ASC team making the playoffs.  It makes no difference whether the ASC is perceived to be a stronger conference or not.  The criteria for selection are spelled out in Pat's FAQ section of D3 football.com and that and that alone determines playoff consideration.  When teams that go 9-1 with higher regional winning percentages than a 3rd place ASC team are left out each year by the selection committee, you have your answer.  When UMHB was left out several years ago when they tied for first, then you have your answer.  So many things would have to happen it is almost a statistical impossibility for your scenario.  Sorry but that is my take on your query. :)
Please don't apologize; you have nothing to apologize for. I was simply asking a few questions and you're providing answers, thank you sir.  LOL - this time I will try to limit myself to four questions, roocru.

Is there any pressure, coming from voices who strongly support DIII football or from conferences, colleges and/or university administrators to take another look at the playoff system and determine if it at all could be made more competitive and fair in regards to seeding/travel cost constraints? Cost constraints why understandable in these economic conditions undoubtedly is a factor, however to treat DIII players and programs differently when it comes to funding of the divisions for playoff purposes isn't fair.  How much bigger are the travel budgets when it relates to DII and D1-AA using NCAA funds, or does each school handle travel expenses for the playoffs?

A year or two ago was there not some talk about possibly splitting division 3 into two divisions, a competitive division and a non-competitive division 4. Knowing that the vote didn't pass, what is the likelihood we see the subject reevaluated by the NCAA and other decision making bodies? Is there another body with any type of oversight in this area?

The conference that is most likely to be hurt by this maneuver is the ASC.   >:(
What is your reasoning behind that conclusion sir?
