The USAC turned 20 this past season. I looked back at the top teams, top players, and top coaches. I limited it to conference champs for the teams. I limited it to POY or 1st team All Americans on d3 football site. For the coaches I looked at the COY.
TEAMS:
1. 2015 Huntingdon 10-2 overall 7-0 in conference and made it to the second round of the playoffs
2. 2007 NCWC 9-3 overall 7-0 in conference and made it to the second round of the playoffs
3. 2004 CNU 9-3 overall 5-1 in conference and made it to the second round of the playoffs
4. 2005 Ferrum 9-2 overall 6-1 in conference and lost in the first round of the playoffs
5. 2017 Huntingdon 9-2 overall 7-0 in conference and lost in the first round of the playoffs
HM 2014 CNU 8-4 and lost in the second round of the playoffs
HM 2019 Huntingdon 8-4 and lost in the second round of the playoffs
Players:
Offense:
1. Marcus Mayo QB from Ferrum. OPOY in 2010 and 2011 who was also a punt returner. He was scary looking also.
2. Tunde Ogun RB from CNU. 2008 OPOY in conference and south region and a 1st team All American. He was a D1 transfer and it showed.
3. Cedric Townsend QB from NCWC. OPOY in 2006 and 2007. Took NCWC to 2nd round of the playoffs.
4. Brian Mann RB from Ferrum. OPOY in 2017 and would have likely repeated but Ferrum left for the ODAC his JR year.
5. Chris Roncketti QB from Methodist. OPOY in 2005 and helped win a share of the conference title that year.
HM Malik Adams WR from NCWC. OPOY in 2015 and owns most career yards and TDs in the conference
Defense:
1. Montel Lee DL from Ferrum. DPOY in 2016 and 2017. Owns conference record 39 career sacks.
2. Darren Venable DB from Ferrum. DPOY in 2003 and 2004. He played what they called the PIG in their defense and they moved him all over the field.
3. Antonio Johnson LB from NCWC. DPOY in 2018 and 2019. All around impressive stats but watch the games and he was always around the ball.
4. Rob Rodriguez DB from CNU. DPOY in 2005 and 1st team All American in 2006.
5. Andre Carter LB from LaGrange. DPOY in 2012 and 2013. He seemed to be angry all the time.
HM DJ Chappell DL from Huntingdon. 1st team All American in 2012 and nearly impossible to block
Coach:
1. Matt Kelchner from CNU 7 time coach of the year
2. Mike Turk from Huntingdon 4 time coach of the year
I put Jim Sypult (19 years) from Methodist and Dan Davis (17 years) from Ferrum in the list also as long time coaches at their respective schools
I put Jack Ginn from NCWC and Mike Rader from Maryville in the list of coaches who in Ginn's case started the program or in Rader's case revived a program. Both coaches parlayed their success into a job at scholarship programs
I would slide MC Scots 2013 into the mix 8-3 (6-1 Conference) and possibly RB Travis Felder 1242 yds, 5.6 ypc, 112 ypg, 22 td
