Quote from: y_jack_lok on March 08, 2025, 08:46:50 PMRMC no match for Catholic tonight, losing 79-67. The Jackets trailed by 20 in the first half and by 17 at halftime. Catholic had RMC's defenses figured out and executed well against them. They also defend very well and did a good job on Jabril Robinson who was disrupted from running the offense as he normally does. Keishawn Pulley, Jr. also had an off night everywhere except the free throw line. The Jackets were unable to get the deficit below double digits and are not a team accustomed to making late game comeback efforts from that far back.

It was another great season for the Jackets. Congrats on all the achievements.

Two ODAC teams in the Sweet Sixteen.

H-SC advances to the with an 81-75 win over Pitt Bradford.

Roanoke downs CNU 77-75. Joshua McClary the hero again with a late made jumper with 4 seconds left. CNU unable to convert on its last shot.

Roanoke seems to be set on making games close, but I'll take a win against a great team.  Roanoke has a even tougher task this Friday against Catholic, the team that took out Randolph Macon. This season has been Roanoke's best season in a really long time.

One team we haven't mentioned is Virginia Wesleyan.  Apparently they're in what I think is a NIT type tournament(ECAC Tourney) where they're the #1 team.  They won on Saturday against Franciscan University and then won again today against McDaniel college. They play Saturday in the ECAC championship against Salisbury University.

Quote from: y_jack_lok on March 07, 2025, 06:10:59 PMI was going back and forth between the Roanoke and Guilford games. RC was trailing Pfeiffer and GC was trailing Berry. Roanoke was able to pull off the comeback and down Pfeiffer 71-70 on two free throws by Joshua McClary with 4.6 seconds remaining. Guilford, unfortunately, couldn't do the same. They tied the game at 74 with 1:32 remaining, but Berry was able to regain the lead and hold on to win 80-77.

RMC has no problem with Westfield State, winning 82-48.

H-SC can pull the ODAC to 3-1 on the day if they down Bryn Athyn.

HSC dominated Bryn Athyn winning 102-66

Roanoke squeaked by Pfeiffer after getting in deep trouble. Roanoke was down 18 at one point in the second half and came back to pull it off.  Roanoke takes on a really tough CNU team tomorrow at 6:30. CNU won 101-75 today over John Jay College.

Quote from: Tigerfan on March 07, 2025, 10:14:09 AMGame Day! Good luck to the Quakers, Jackets, Maroons and TIGERS this weekend.

It would be awesome to have all 4 teams advance.  Roanoke takes on a tough Pfeiffer team who seems to be peaking at the right time.RC needs a win it has been awhile since we won a game in the tourney.

My friends and I were talking about this during the game today (I was there).

RC 7 of 17, GC 15 of 16

Yep that will lose it for you. I'm happy we got there but sucks to lose it.  Guilford was the better team today. Most of us said almost all season that the ODAC race was between 5 teams (HSC, RMC, Roanoke, VWU and Guilford) and it's only fitting that the 5th seed won it all. Should be interesting how many teams the ODAC gets in and where they will be playing at. Go Maroons!

Quote from: Tigerfan on March 01, 2025, 04:53:24 PMThe ODAC needs to address the poor quality of officiating in the league.

I think officiating overall has gotten better since I started following D3 basketball 25 years ago. What is and isn't a foul is more clearly defined now that it was 10-15 years ago. As a result, it seems that fewer fouls are being called and officials aren't noticed as much. The "let them play" mentality, when taken to the extreme, however, can result in the officials affecting the game just as much, though differently, than when they are whistle happy. That seemed to me to be the case today in RMC vs Guilford.

It's hilarious ya'll are talking about officials because that's who I have a problem with in the Roanoke OT win today.  Officials weren't too bad in the first half and Roanoke took at 15 point lead.  It felt and looked like the beginning of the 2nd half they were going to call a lot more fouls which they did.  Foul count was 8-3 with Roanoke committing the 8 fouls at the beginning of the 2nd half and Lynchburg got back into the game. From there RC was either tied with LC or had the lead. RC was up 2 with about 30 seconds left and got called for a foul in the back court. Lynchburg then made 2 FTs and the game went into overtime.

In overtime Lynchburg would take a 4 point lead with about 50 seconds left. From there Roanoke would steal the game (at this point is was only a 2 point Lynchburg lead) by hitting a 3 with 18 seconds left (on the same exact play that beat Lynchburg at Lynchburg).  From there Lynchburg would miss a shot and have to foul and Roanoke would knock down 2 FTs to seal it.

Roanoke plays a great Guilford team tomorrow who's looking for revenge after the last time that we met.  Roanoke has not held the ODAC title since 2000.  Coach Nunley has never won the ODAC title but has been in the title game 2 times (once with Roanoke, once with Randolph), here's hoping the 3rd time is the lucky charm.

Quote from: Brian Hamilton on February 26, 2025, 10:22:49 PMNo, Roanoke plays Lynchburg.  Bracket is set.  It doesn't reseed.  Guilford plays Macon.

Thanks definitely some confusion on my end. Lynchburg will be ready on Saturday, they should've beat us in the regular season (we came back down 10 with a minute left). Roanoke better be ready to play.

Quote from: hasanova on February 26, 2025, 09:26:46 PMI'd say whatever bubble Virginia Wesleyan was on has disappeared.

Guilford 74, VW 61 at VA Beach

I'm glad the Quakers got to 20 Ws.  Now, RMC on Saturday.

With Lynchburg's 72-66 upset over HSC, it's Roanoke and the Hornets in the other ODAC semifinal.

Roanoke got a good win against Ferrum.  Close game until the 6 minute mark it was a 6 point game at that point when Roanoke would get the lead up to 13.  From that point Ferrum didn't get any closer than 12. Final score would be 89-75.  The HSC loss complicates things for Roanoke getting a bid now if we don't win the ODAC.  Roanoke plays the hottest team in the ODAC right now in Randolph Macon on Sunday.  Randolph Macon crushed Shenandoah 81-51 and hasn't lost since Dec 7th.

Quote from: y_jack_lok on February 18, 2025, 10:20:54 PMRMC with a pretty convincing win over VWU tonight. Roanoke survives Ferrum in OT. W&L and Shenandoah could end up in a tie for the final conference tourney spot if the Generals lose to Ferrum and SU downs Bridgewater on Saturday. In that case SU wins the tie breaker having defeated the Generals twice this season.

Guilford and VWU are tied for the 4th first round hosting spot. If that holds after Saturday's games, VWU wins the tiebreaker with a win over the Quakers on January 15th.

Roanoke got lucky that game from what I was told.  We were up 9 at half and from what I heard the wheels starting falling off. This win doesn't give too much confidence right now before we have to play in the ODAC tourney. Before the ODAC tourney Roanoke hosts Apprentice School (14-5) tomorrow.

Looking at the other ODAC games for tomorrow the notable games I have are:

Virginia Wesleyan at Lynchburg

Ferrum at Washington and Lee

Averett at Guilford

Randolph Macon at Randolph

Shenandoah at Bridgewater

So if the top 8 teams are in then Randolph, Averett, Bridgewater and EMU are all eliminated. The remaining spot would be between Washington and Lee and Shenandoah with W and L having a one game lead over them in the ODAC. SU beat Washington and Lee in the regular season so I'm guessing if W and L loses and SU wins then SU would get that last spot. Please someone correct me if I'm wrong.

So I was actually correct on my post.  So the 1st round ODAC playoff match ups for Wednesday are:

Lynchburg vs. Hampden Sydney

Ferrum at Roanoke

Shenandoah vs. Randolph Macon

Guilford at Virginia Wesleyan

Out of those match ups I think 2 match ups are a toss up.  The Ferrum at Roanoke will be the close as Roanoke only beat Ferrum at home last week by 2.  Guilford and Virginia Wesleayn I also think is a complete toss up as both are capable of being the best in the ODAC when playing well.

Roanoke is tied at 2 with HSC.  They split the regular season, so that doesn't break the tie.  So I believe it goes to a point system based on seeding.  I believe HSC would beat Roanoke out on that based on their win over Macon and Roanoke's loss.  Someone more knowledgeable can correct me if I am wrong.

It would become very interesting if Macon were to lose one of their remaining 2 ODAC games because that would put HSC, RC, and RMC in a three-way tie.

I will say this, if Macon wins out, they are #1 again and HSC and RC would meet at the Civic Center on March 1 for the rubber match if they both win their final ODAC game and win their 1st round game at home.

Thank you for correcting me. I knew that RMC loss would hurt us in a lot of different ways and I was correct. I really doubt RMC will lose in the final 2 games so they'll have the 1 seed, which means HSC will be 2 and if RC can win Wednesday we will finish at 3.  I'm still confident if RC can win the next couple of games until they eventually play either VWC, HSC, Guilford, or RMC they could have a decent chance of sneaking into the tourney.

Roanoke with a huge win against HSC 81-72. Unfortunately I didn't get to see it but sounded like it went back and forth. Roanoke now sits at #2 in the conference and has Ferrum on Wednesday at home.

RC can't afford a let down the last 2-3 games to have a shot at a at large bid if we don't win the odac.

Quote from: Tigerfan on February 14, 2025, 09:30:25 AMRoanoke comes into Saturday's big game smokin' hot.  They absolutely rolled W&L on the road, 84-57.  They've been putting up big margins of victory.  Roanoke is the favorite over H-SC in all of the computer models.

The Averett at W&L game on Wednesday is shaping up to be the game for the 8th spot in the ODAC tournament as long as AU can take care of business at home vs Randolph on Saturday.  BC could possibly get into the mix, but their remaining schedule includes VWU in Va Beach and L at home.  Shenandoah is a dark horse threat to go on a regular season ending run and sneak in: W&L at home, EMU on the road and BC at home. Not out of the question.

Roanoke looked good last night against W and L.  Finished the half up 44-28 and after the first couple of minutes in the second half they were up 20 the rest of the way through. I don't believe Roanoke is the favorite in their game Saturday for them it will come down to stopping HSC's posts.  That has been our downfall in almost all of our losses (posts scoring and offensive rebounding). HSC is #1 in the ODAC this season for a reason. Roanoke will need their best game this season to defeat HSC.

Quote from: Brian Hamilton on February 12, 2025, 09:11:02 AMRoanoke is 37th in NPI and VWU is 38th currently.  A lot of basketball left to play, but unless they improve their NPI, they will be hoping for few upsets in conference tourneys or have to win the ODAC tourney.  Guilford isn't ranked in the Regional Rankings, so they have an even more difficult road to get in without winning the ODAC tourney.

Just from my limited knowledge of the selection process, Roanoke realistically would have to beat Hampden Sydney and win their remaining games until the ODAC tourney (a lot easier said than done). In the ODAC tourney they probably would have to get to the championship game to at least have a shot at getting selected without winning the ODAC tourney....a very tough task for Roanoke to say the least.

With that being said Roanoke's game against a surging W and L team at home has been pushed back to tomorrow due to the snow (Randolph vs. Ferrum and Mary Wash at EMU has also been pushed back).  The other two games are still on for tonight. The Guilford and HSC game should be a good one. Sucks for Roanoke as they have to try to beat a better W and L team tomorrow and then only have 1 day to prepare for the tall task known as HSC.

Quote from: Tigerfan on February 09, 2025, 08:52:06 AMNo upsets yesterday.  The favorites generally cruised to wins, except Lynchburg.  Shenandoah was down 15 with 4:27 to go and tied it at :19, but, after a LU bucket, couldn't get the tying shot to go down as time expired.

The Tigers have a huge week ahead with Guilford at home on Wednesday and Roanoke on the road on Saturday.  This week has been looming large on the schedule for a long time.  The road to the #1 seed in the tournament is a tough one for H-SC.

I heard something I liked from the EMU announcer during the H-SC game.  In a play on the ACC "Tobacco Road" rivalries, he referred to the upcoming game with BC as the Poultry Road rivalry.

Roanoke got a good win against Randolph last Saturday 94-66. It was a 15 point game at half that quickly got out of control.  Randolph definitely doesn't look like the same team at the beginning of the season when we only squeaked out a 6 point win in December.  I'm wondering if they had some people get hurt or something I was impressed by them at the start of the season and now they probably won't make the ODAC tourney.

Looking at tomorrows games, Roanoke goes up against a up and down W and L team. The big game is Guilford at Hampden Sydney.  HSC will be pumped up for that game with their only ODAC loss coming against Guilford last month. Randolph Macon is off tomorrow.

Roanoke with a big win today at home against Guilford 78-53.  Roanoke played tough on defense and held a 39-28 advantage going into half.  After half Roanoke would extend the lead to 20 in the final 10 minutes and for the most part that's where it would stay.  Guilford had some uncharacteristic numbers as they only shot 30% for the game and shot only 37% from the FT line. Roanoke continues to puzzle me as we're a true wild card team who can look really good at times (against VWU and Guilford) and can look like we haven't gotten a win at times (against Lynchburg and EMU).  One thing is certain Roanoke plays better at home.

In other ODAC news:

Washington and Lee gets beat badly at Ferrum 68-101

Randolph Macon wins at Shenandoah 73-60

EMU gets a big win at Bridgewater 70-62. That has to hurt Bridgewater's ODAC tourney chances.

Virginia Wesleyan loses at Hampden Sydney 47-66

Randolph gets destroyed at Lynchburg 78-106. Randolph started off the season well and now sit with a record of 7-13.
