I will speak s-l-o-w-l-y for you. Occam's Razor.
1) no to health ... see BashDad's easy common sense analysis
2) no to another opportunity ... if this were the case, regardless of how unhappy DePauw may be about his leaving; he is leaving and would not be pushed into silence as to his coaches, players, and the general public (leaving his team in uncertainty ... and some turmoil one week before the parctices start ... the team he recruited over the last 3 years)
3) What is left ... conduct (personal or violation of College or other applicable [NCAA] rules). Fits with quit without notice. Fits with no information fournished to coaches or team. Fits with DePauw nailed down tight. Fits with no discussion/information from his family. Fits with where in the world is Waldo.6 days and all quiet on Southern front.
Regardless of past success, no

BashDad, I usually only visit this forum around Monon-time (the most wonderful time of the year) and decided to register once I learned of Walker's resignation so I'm not sure if you have thrown out your theory. If you think illness is unlikely, do you believe the reason to be conduct, opportunity, or some other possibilty?

I remember being at that game. I'd have to pull out my tooth collection to be positive of the years, but it's hard to believe it was 6 yrs ago.
Maybe I'm don't specifically recall dates, names, etc, but I do distinctly recall hating all of you candy stripers. Figured I would register for the board to say hello to my friend Breckenridgebear, but maybe we can all get to know eachother better. You'll usually have my number when it comes to stats as my life is too busy to follow the weekly physical feats of young men, but that's what is so great about you Wally!

Wally Wabash, I agree with much of your post. Under his guidance, the DPU football program improved and made some great rivalry games. However, I'm not ruling out illness as the cause. I don't think the notion that either he or a family member could be struggling with health is beyond the realm of possibility. I'll admit it's unlikely, but it does make sense.

To be fair, a few Wallies have acknowledge that the truth is still missing form the news but others speculate the resignation to be the result of inappropriate behavior. Surprised CNN isn't all over this one
So much for the understated tone of the Coach Walker dialogue. I really didn't see much mud being slung, but you may have just notched things up a bit.

Just a quick note of corrections:
1. Walker did lose his 2006 debut (for some reason I pictured Coach Nick in that game).
2. I completely endorse slinging mud, but only at Wallies. All mud slinging of Coach Walker and obscene speculation should be put on hold until the complete story surfaces.

For some reason I though Coach Nick's last game was 2006, but a 2005 home game farewell does sound right.QuoteA toast to Coach Walker, undefeated as head coach in Monon games. Sure, there were only two, but let's not forget that Depauw was a significant underdog both times. He gave us some great memories and I firmly believe loyal fans will remember "the kick" (2007) and "the ass-kicking" (2008) for many years to come.
Agree with your sentiments! But it should be noted that Coach Walker was 2-1 in Bell games...in 2006, his first year at the helm, the Tigers lost 23-20 in a mud pit at Crawfordsville...

Let's take a moment to praise Coach Walker instead of speculating and slinging mud. I realize his football tenure with Depauw was short-lived, but he did hand Wabash their skirts in both Monon games he coached. In fact, I'd say that both of his games (2007-2008) are among the most heralded in the rivlry history.
Pulling the starting kicker in 2007 for an unproven kicker on a 47 yrd attempt took serious balls, and the resulting victory was a glorious last-second upset.
Still "underdogs" in 2008, Walker led the Tigers past "#2" Wabash 36-14 in an embarassing coaching clinic. Proving that 2007 was no fluke, the defeat of the Wallies at home assured fans that the bell would rest in its rightful place for another year and that Depauw would be a nightmare for Wabash for years to come.
Though Walker is presumably moving to another program, I have no doubt that Robby Long has all the tools and abilty to punch "Da Bash" right in da mouth ... he's not afraid to get a little lipstick on his fist.
