My son will probably be playing in the NJAC next year. Rowan or TCNJ. I noticed a lot of games are far away and I was surprised. Can anybody tell me how many fans (parents) travel to the away games up in NY, PA and CT? I assume the teams go up and stay over the night before?
Welcome to the NJAC and the DIII boards.  You are correct that the teams typically will travel the day before and stay over when the distance is significant.  As for parents/fans making the trip, I would say it's mostly parents but I could be wrong.  There are exceptions of course.  Cortland whom I am most familiar with generally travels well.  Have had some great times and met some great people tailgating at both home and away games.  Good luck and hope your son and your family enjoy the experience!

Sorry to add to the good wishes late but good luck to SJF and SU.  You've already turned some heads eastward and will turn even more with a win or dare I say two wins tomorrow!

Good Luck Kean....why not you?  Keep it going!

Congrats to Dan Pitcher, QB, Cortland on his selection as a Gagliardi finalist.
What he said on both counts!

Way to go Kean! Congrats on what sounds like a great win. Keep getting it done and show them what the NJAC is made of!

Sorry if this question has been asked a million times on this thread. But I was wondering what the ECAC's are all about? Looks like there about a half a dozen or so games ECAC games Saturday.

I had no idea DIII football games continued on after the regular season outside of the playoffs.

I think it's pretty cool...

I view the games as rewards to teams that had decent seasons but did not make the playoffs.  Some schools disdain them, but not Alfred.  It's great to get an extra game!!

Cortland does the same.  It's great to have another game and to play a team that you normally wouldn't get to see.  I know the seniors always love one more game too!

Well I tried to stike up a conversation with any Albright posters but looks like no takers.  If there are any seeing this and you are heading to Cortland, safe travels and look forward to seeing the two team battle.

Well, isn't it nice to have some guest posters.

And why are they here?

To show their insecurity?

Excellent...we even get an analysis session with our posts.  Banfreud is there an hourly charge for your services?

And don't forget, everyone plays atleast one full quarter regardless of level of talent.  It's only fair.

Here's the bad news for the NEFC and the ECFC... and this is where it gets complicated...

Let's look at the number of OOC games available in the NEFC and ECFC... and then the number in the E8, LL, NJAC and MAC.

NEFC:

16 teams (each division with 8 teams).  Assume 9-game schedules.
OOCs per Team = 2
2 x 16 teams = 32 OOC games

ECFC:

8 teams.  Assume 9-game schedules.
OOCs per Team = 2
2 x 8 teams = 16 OOC games

LL:

8 teams (as of next year).  Assume 10-game schedules.
OOCs per Team = 3
3 x 8 teams = 24 OOC games

E8:

8 teams.  Assume 10-game schedules.
OOCs per Team = 3
3 x 8 teams = 24 OOC games

NJAC:

9 teams (as of next year).  One mandated NJAC/MAC game.  Assume 10-game schedules.
OOCs per Team (excluding NJAC/MAC Challenge) = 1
1 x 9 teams = 9 OOC games

MAC:

9 teams.  One mandated NJAC/MAC game.  Assume 10-game schedules.
OOCs per Team (excluding NJAC/MAC Challenge) = 1
1 x 9 teams = 9 OOC games

Let's tally them up:

NEFC + ECFC = 32 + 16 = 48 (assuming 9-game schedules)
LL + E8 + NJAC + MAC = 24 + 24 + 9 + 9 = 66 (assuming 10-game schedules and NJAC/MAC Challenge)

Every game that the LL and E8 schedule against each other accounts for 2 OOCs less.  So, if every Liberty League team scheduled one E8 game, we would be down to 50.  A game like Cortaca similarly reduces it by 2 (48).  The point here is that the complacency that the NEFC has shown in intra-scheduling has really cost the NEFC a chance to make inroads to create any OOC strength.  There are too many rivalries and too many traditional games being played now for the NEFC and ECFC to really allow for much headway in future scheduling in such games.  Look, Salve/Union occurred because WPI's coach didn't want to coach against his former team (making it a nullity in the numbers I showed above).  The best chance NEFC and ECFC teams have of turning the tide is by inquiring NOW about what happens to the E8 when Frostburg and Salisbury likely leave the E8 in 2013.  There's time right now to take the lesson and make something happen.  Will they?  I don't know, but maybe Charles and softbalz need to get on the phone with their NEFC schools and suggest it pronto.  Scheduling happens a couple to a few years in advance, so this is the time to act.

Wow Frank....is that a post or an Algebra question on the SAT? If I was an AD and tried to figure that out, I would say screw it, lets just go 8-2 and play in the ECAC

Being visual, I commissioned someone to white board out Frank's calculations on OOC games by conference. I think it clears things up. Link below:

Hello MAC board.  Wondering if there are any Albright posters out there interested in talking about the upcoming game against Cortland State.  Looking forward to the game and it's always interesting to play a new team as the two teams have not met before.  Long term weather appears to be good football weather but then again, up in Cortland, you never know what the weather will bring.

Bombers why did Sulla only get one carry?

I would assume injury. He didn't play against Alfred, so there's probably something there. But the Bombers' pretty much abandoned the run early anyway, so what good would he have done? There's no getting around it: Without a significant upgrade on the offensive line, who the Bombers start at RB is irrelevant. I don't see there being a Giorgio/Maddi or Donovan/Baez dichotomy in the backfield where one guy is a bigger, more powerful back and the other is more shifty and faster. Nadien and Sulla strike me as essentially the same back.

It would help if those guys could catch. Jamie Free and Dan Ross were fullbacks, but they were also great at catching passes, and Free was really good in the open field. They were legitimate options in the passing game. Free caught close to 100 passes. Ross was banged up a lot, but he finished with like eight touchdowns receiving. Sure, Bergerstock, Donovan and Baez weren't threats to do it, but they didn't have to be because they could run. (Well, I think Bergerstock was more about his line than anything else, but still.)

But these guys are pretty one-dimensional, and the line issues make it impossible for them to have an impact

I haven't watched that close the past few years, but has Ithaca decided to run a basic RB screen yet?

Don't believe there were any screens called Saturday anyway and it would seem to be a viable option.  Cortland is aggressive when it comes to pass rushing.  That combined with a weak O line would seem to be the perfect set up.

Rodman ... ahhh, those were the days...

On another subject ... the NJAC avoided a four-way tie for first when TCNJ missed an 18 yard field goal with seconds left against Kean earlier this year. TCNJ, Montclair, Cortland and Kean would have been tied for first – all with two losses. Wonder who would have had the honor of advancing to the playoffs under that scenario! TCNJ with losses to Cortland & Buffalo State. Montclair with losses to TCNJ & Kean. Cortland with losses to Kean and Montclair and Kean with losses to Brockport and TCNJ.

Rare footage of the NJAC tie breaker process....
