HI all. Just returned from the Hiram-Gallaudet game. For Hiram it was a debacle. Here's basically what went down:
First and foremost congrats to Gallaudet. Those kids earned the victory and Im sure that since they dont win often, they are on top of the world right now.
In Hiram things are different. Lots of heads hung low. I'll try not to 'go off' but its hard not to. Hirams coaching staff, for whatever reason, decided they were going to play CONSERVATIVE. I think they threw the ball twice in the first half. 3rd and 8? Run it up the middle! They started and stuck with senior QB/WR Lee SHam at QB for most of the first half. When they finally went to promising fresman QB Brendan Rehor he threw 2 passes and had Hiram at the Gall. 10 yard line. With 2 seconds left in the half and traling 7-0 they went for it instead of kicking the FG. Completed a pass to the 1 yard line as time expired.
2nd half...same as the first. They went BACK to Sham and did the same thing as the first...running the ball. Unable to move the chains the defense stayed on the field all day. Eventually it caught up with them. They couldnt stop Gallaudets triple option. And the score got out of hand.
Rehor is a PLAYER though. Hopefully the coaches learn from their mistakes and for the good of the team play him and let the kid wing it. We're Hiram for God's sake. What the HELL do we have to lose. It was so frustrating to watch what amounted to a stubborn, egotiscital game plan by the Hiram coaching staff.
Senior Lee Sham is a fine wideout so its not like you have to 'bench' the kid. He'll get plenty of time at WR. One more thing about Sham is that he is a great kid and as much of a "team player" as anyone.
Sorry for the rant all. Congrats to all you that have one today and good luck to those who fell short this week!
