Quote from: Dr. Acula on January 23, 2025, 07:52:19 PMExactly.  IMO the biggest remaining hurdle between the farce of the players getting paid for NIL only and being an employee on payroll is the universities/NCAA still laughably claiming the athletes are not employees just amateur athletes.  Eventually I would think it ends in revenue sharing where the university sets aside a % of their athletics revenue for player payroll.  NIL could still be paid in addition to that I'd imagine so the gap between the haves and have nots will remain, but it sets a floor for everyone.

Quote from: Dr. Acula on January 21, 2025, 09:10:22 AMIt'd definitely be interesting.  I wonder if/when the athletes become employees of the schools it will be public as it is (or used to be at least) for all state employees?  There used to be a database where you could look up state employees, teachers, etc.  Basically anyone funded by tax dollars.  I showed it to one of my buddies that worked at OSU and he texted me the next day telling me he spent his entire day at work looking up what other people at OSU made.

Keep in mind the schools are not actually paying these players. They are getting paid by outside organizations for the value of their "name image and likeness" for promotional purposes

for now.  Revenue sharing is coming very, very soon

lets hope that the professionalism of the top level of college sports doesnt leak all the way down to D3.  but I'm not hopeful
Hopefully UMHB gets out of D3 before that is approved.  Handing out old Subarus in the shadows is one thing, I doubt anyone could keep up with the legal handouts down there.

There's not enough money in D3 athletics for it to leak down this far! It's $25 to go to a championship game for pete's sake.

Sure, there are a few kids making a little off of true NIL deals, like on opendorse, but I'm not seeing 6 figure payrolls or anything in D3... ever.

I mean there aren't even very good NIL deals at the top levels of FCS as far as I can tell. There just isn't a big enough donor base. I doubt MAC football players are even getting very much NIL.

Many MAC schools don't even operate a profitable athletic department, so profit sharing wouldn't even work. Kent State for example lost over 1 million dollars on athletics last year.

It only takes one guy with some spare change and a willingness to spend it.  Does the name "McLane" ring a bell?

I agree with many that the Texas Stagg Bowls are not a great idea - but I sure wouldn't want to be sitting outside tonight in Canton or Salem.

Quote from: Purple13 on January 05, 2025, 03:42:51 PMAs is usually the case with ESPN I was watching the replay of the Johns Hopkins/MountUnion game on ESPNU and they didn't even get to halftime and College Basketball is on and our game isn't I'm sure it will be the same thing after the Stagg Bowl tonight rush mode to get to something that they deem more important I'm just saying.

The basketball was only a look-in during a break.  (Might even have been from the original broadcast.  I don't know since I didn't see the original broadcast.)

Quote from: Pat Coleman on December 18, 2024, 10:02:05 PMWho in your mind was most directly involved? There was only one D3football.com staffer involved and that was me. Keith was not reporting the story and Frank Rossi is not a D3football.com staffer.

I was referring to Frank Rossi.  Maybe he isn't/wasn't a staffer - but close enough.  Crikies.

Re:  L'affaire Fulford.  IIRC, down the road the d3.com correspondent most directly involved said that he had represented himself in a somewhat hot-headed manner.

. . . As is usually the case there are approximately 147 sides to every issue.

Quote from: Dr. Acula on December 05, 2024, 10:23:30 PMCongrats to former Raider AA Mike Elder on guiding Avon to their first ever state championship tonight.  He's built a great program at Avon.

Note Coach Elder's t-shirt in this September sports news article: https://www.morningjournal.com/2019/09/19/avon-football-its-more-than-a-game-for-coach-mike-elder/

Thanks for posting this article. Among other things I learned that Elder coached at Larry Kehres' high school alma mater for a year.

Quote from: Kira & Jaxon's Dad on November 14, 2024, 09:56:20 AMAnxiously awaiting the Weekly Game Notes for the depth chart.

Maloney got the 2nd team stats early in the season.

Beaudry:  9 Games 110/159 1780 yds
Maloney: 3 Games 4/8 42 yds
Deshields: 5 games 14/26 181 yds

Maloney also has 11 carries for 121 yards

Well, the Buckeyes won a championship with their third-string QB. . . . Do you believe in miracles?  No, me neither.

Quote from: Desertraider on September 14, 2024, 11:33:36 PMImpressive win for the Raiders, I mean Rockets tonight! Candle, Kehres, Hallet, and Watson head to Starkville and dominate Mississippi State!

Have to think Candle will be on the shortlist for the Florida Gators. Curious if VK would go, or step into Toledo HC role.
I think we're getting a tad carried away.  Candle on the short list for FLORIDA?  Beaudrie one of the greatest  Mount Union quarterbacks of ALL TIME?  Maybe marijuana should NOT been legalized in O-H-I-O.  (Just sayin'.)

Quote from: raiderguy on August 30, 2024, 08:48:48 AMJust as an FYI from an observation to the roster. What are the chances of having two players with the name Kayden on the team? Both are RB's and from a review of Kyden Minner bio a pretty good RB in his own right. He is from Missouri. I don't remember another player from there playing for Mount. Could be one to watch going forward. I have read about Kayden Davis in previous posts, and it could be a good "Kayden" backfield for the Raiders. It would give the announcers an easier job, "who carried the ball on the last play? Kayden did! ;D

I've seen the name Kayden more in the last five years than in my entire previous lifetime.  I kayn't explain it.

Quote from: joelmama on August 28, 2024, 11:26:05 AM140+ freshmen and almost 1/2 from outside Ohio.  20+ from Florida again.

A couple of the Fr are listed twice:

Clarke Canova
Alfonso Cruz

Well then, that makes the 140+ freshmen list a lot more manageable.  ;D

So did Meacham fulfill his military commitment or did he drop out or is he on sabbatical or what?
