By "damaged" I just meant that he had a broken arm. Seriously though, should be a hell of a game.

Good luck to California Lutheran Junior College Extension Program. Don't forget Rent-A-Center's football player policy: they have to be returned at the end of the season, with the exception of damaged players (Mosier) and felons. Those have to be returned early. Otherwise have fun playing in the

Nihon, how painful was it changing the quote under your picture??? I thought it was good to stay for at least another few years. Oxy will be back soon enough.
While just yesterday I said I wouldn't hit Oxy with any more jabs... your rant reminded me of something funny I heard from a buddy this weekend...
"So ... Reggie Bush, Cam Newton, and Dale Widolff walk into a bar..."
![]()
![]()
Changing my avatar quote was about as painful as losing the conference championship twice at home via missed last second field goals... divided by 10,000

Reggie Bush: Takes $290,000 in gifts. No suspension
Cam Newton: Burglary, larceny, obstruction of justice @ Florida. Welcomed back to team. Allegedly demands $100,000+ to play ball. No suspension.
Dale Widolff: Films a player doing combine drills the day before camp starts to send to pro teams. Pays campus' best computer guy to fix his computer. 4 game suspension including 2 extra bye weeks. NCAA essentially says, "Jeeze guys, that was pretty harsh!"
Makes sense when I found out Oxy AD Jamie Hoffman started her career as Assistant basketball coach in Greece under head AD Draco.

But we're a "historically weak" conference! Historically, we didn't beat the number 1 seed on the road in the first round as the number two regional seed in 2008! Oh, and in 2005! Why doesn't our conference have as good of an all-time playoff record as the conferences whose Regional 6/7-seeds get home games in the first round every year at the SCIAC's expense?!
Oh, right. So that Alabama football and Kansas basketball can get 10-car police escorts to their games while their graduation rates sit at 50%.
Maybe Cam Newton will donate some booster money and get the NWC and SCIAC an extra playoff flight?

Tough loss for Oxy this afternoon... I was hoping for a 50+ year winning streak over Redlands to rival Linfield's streak! Oxy was decimated by injuries, missing Wertheimer (All-American) and Danielson (All-SCIAC 1st Team) just to name two that I know of. That being said, you put the ball on the ground 6 times and have 4 total turnovers, you're gonna have a hard time beating anyone, let alone a top tier SCIAC team that focuses basically their whole program on beating you specifically. Kudos to the Redlands players for stepping up and making plays. I can just imagine the Redlands guys at a house party right now, drinking Mad Dog 20/20 in a circle, slapping each other on the head and barking at one another
I suppose now Maynard can finally put Selway out to pasture. He can take a cushy job as QB coach, and spend his evenings playing canasta at the newly renamed Dan Selway 2010 Victory Over Oxy Redlands Senior Center.
PaddyMac... if my OxyBob Jr. detective skills are correct, your son was (and will remain) 0-4 against Oxy. So if I were you I would... stfu. I'm sure the current players did enough smack talking today for everyone.
EDIT: Saying under picture changed. Respect.

I think a better question is when was the last time PLU beat Linfield? Seems like the Wildcats have their number, and whoever the other conference power is that year (Wil/Whit) usually does as well. Then again it's a new year so you never know.
As for Claremont, they usually have a couple of good athletes, but not enough to seriously challenge the big boys. Maybe enough of a team for an upset of one of the big three, but not enough for a conference title. See no reason for that to change this year.

Sorry to hear that... dude could definitely run, I think the Linfield guys will attest to that.

Mosier isn't listed on CLU's roster. K4 what's up... you wouldn't be withholding info would you? I think OxyBob can revoke your SCIAC posting licence for that!

Oxy usually brings in a small number of transfers, probably 5 or less in any given year. RB Jason Haller and QB Andy Collins are a couple of examples of recent transfers who contributed in a big way. I think the coaches and the school are very careful to bring in players who will mesh well with the team's mentality and the school's overall philosophy. In my opinion, and my opinion only mind you, I sincerely doubt Oxy would ever attempt to bring in a group as large as CLU, for various reasons. There's also the fact that Oxy is more difficult to get into, either as a transfer or straight out of high school (not trying to start an argument or say Oxy is better etc., it's just a fact). It's the same reason why our recruiting classes are invariably smaller than the other two of the "SCIAC Big Three" year in and year out.

I also was amused when the California Lutheran University faithful let go with the "Over rated!" chant to the 16 losses in 10 years opponent.

That's funny b/c from behind the North endzone during that chant I heard a 'Lu player say "You're not overrated, we're underrated!"

I agree with K4 on both counts. Ted Runner is the best d3 stadium in SoCal hands down in my opinion. Though I can't remember hearing any hecklers. Oh wait, that's probably b/c I've never trailed in a game played at Ted Runner
Putting a parking lot under Chapman's field was a strange choice. I can understand needing to conserve space, but it's tough to like a field that has the equivalent of a 4.0 earthquake ten times a game.
Looks like I might make it out to Thousand Oaks to see Proud Papa Joe and watch his son play RB. Hope he's as hard to tackle tomorrow as he was in HS. Should be a good one.

I think he told me he hurt it on the first kickoff, then tried a couple more but was struggling b/c of the injury. Smith replaced him for the last 2 according to the box score, and Mun continued to kick field goals. Point being after the 1st kickoff they were all shorter than normal.

Nihon- where are you sir? I haven't heard any reasons for the Menlo loss?
I'll try and go a bit more in depth than my man ST:
First and foremost was special teams. Coach Widolff prides himself on consistently having the best all-around special teams units in the SCIAC year-in and year-out. It's a shame he won't be around to shape them up for a while. I counted a blocked punt, shanked punt, botched fg snap, and sub-par kickoff coverage. In addition, kickoff duties usually go to Josh Mun, but he hurt his leg a bit after the first kickoff, so Connor Smith had to replace him, resulting in shorter kickoffs, as Connor is more of a fg guy. Once the frosh punter settled down he had a couple of good ones.
Next, Offense. A few big plays, but no rhythm. The timing looked way off with the receivers. (Edit: This will happen when you lose your top 6-7 WRs from last year). As a result the little 5,7,10 yd short passes that the spread offense thrives off of were falling incomplete. The run game actually looked decent with "Nasty" back and the O-line more experienced. With the short passing game there to provide more continuity, I expect the offense to make leaps and bounds in coming games.
Defense. For the most part, they were victims of bad field position and no rest. Not terrible considering the pick six and last minute essentially meaningless TD running up the score. Once Jim Hildensperger left early with an injury, the big Menlo O-line started gashing Oxy for 5-7yd runs up the middle with their RB who was crazy fast. Usually Jim and Alex (Werth) both command double teams which obviously frees up the rest of the defense. With Jim back and the (much) smaller SCIAC O-lines, I'm going to go out on a limb and say that doesn't happen again. Saw some encouraging plays from the defensive backfield.
