In all seriousness though I'm bummed to see Sparky didn't make first team.  He may have been overshadowed my the incredible stats put up by Hedin but that is no excuse, in any other year he would have been a shoe-in for 1st team.  In my opinion (on the other hand, I know nothing about the other guys who got 1st team DL).

FarAway, my personal input is that Walter Robinson deserved that mention without a doubt. He's been our top pass rusher consistently all season, despite being put in a (often questionable) 3 down-lineman set. Man is a hard worker, and gets results. Big FF against PLU that put us back in the game.

I questioned Alvarado however. He's great against the run, there's no doubting that. But he was never that outstanding defensive force that I thought warranted First Team. On the year, 17 tackles and 2.5 sacks.

Likely, Gonzalez got forgotten about due to the behemoth on the other side of the line. God damn. What is that guy doing after graduation?

Thanks for the mention. But you have to have exemplary stats—like Hedin's—to make 1st team. I mean, c'mon, hands down, this stud is legit!

Considering Sparky was in rotation and play limited to pretty much the first half, I'm proud of his accomplishments. Not to mention, missing most of Menlo's (except for the first defensive series, due to a concussion), and not playing Whitworth... #2 in sacks; #9 in TFL; #13 in D-line tackles; he did a great job and worthy of 2nd Team. Oddly enough though, he had pretty good stats last year too, and didn't even make honorable mention, hmmm?

"As long as the Cats Believe."

Tough loss in a great season opener. I too felt that the Cats were going to pull it off, credit to Cal Lutes. But the Cats are going to rebound, fix a few kinks here, a couple of tweaks there, and look out!

I'm a believer.

@CamCat: Thanks for the karma tip, I've got a long way to go, yeah?

@Red&Purple: Thanks for sharing.

@Light&Darkness: Howzit!

Interesting situation at Pacific with about half the team from HI. I think it's a great opportunity for the boys to attend a good school, let alone play as freshmen in the NWC. I just hope they can stick it out, adjusting to being away has always been a problem for the boys. I know a few of the kids, who played with my son at STL in '07-'08, and went on to other schools, but transferred to Pacific. Coach Yoro, DC/LB coach was also at STL when my son was there. I wish them all the best.

Can't wait for Saturday, let's do this! Hit somebody!

Just stopping in (it's about time, yeah) to say "howzit" and looking forward to the upcoming season. A big mahalo to WC11 for all the updates and video on the boys training and drills, without which, we would never get to experience. The Cats look ready to rock, so c'mon let's hit somebody!!!

Aloha for now,
Island Cat

I was actually depressed yesterday (went to the driving range to work off some steam), and today I'm going through withdrawls (watching old videos of previous games, thanks wc11).

Then a friend sent me this, I admit it's kinda corny, but she was trying to cheer me up. It did get me to smile:

Congratulations to the Cats on a valiant effort, and a spectacular season 12-1. Hats off to UWW on a good win, good luck in Salem.

Bitter sweet moment for me as I wanted to see Cats vs MUC in the final, but I guess I'll get to see my son sooner when he gets home.

Proud to be a Wildcat dad!

Aloha and Mahalo,

Guess so. Yeah, it's great that the local kids get recognition at home, and it was nice that they mentioned Doug Hire, too.

Are you making the trip to Whitewater?

Unfortunately, I can't coco, but I'll be there in spirit. I'll be hootin' and hollerin' (the neighbors think I'm nuts anyway) and trying not to get my blood pressure too worked up.

Yes, it was nice to mention Coach Hire, he is the reason my son is at Linfield and will grow up to be a better man because of it. I can't say enough good things about him.

Good luck and God Speed to the boys, coaches and staff as they travel this week.

Aloha,
Island Cat

ps: I really enjoy reading all the hype and hoopla about this weekends game and how this team will do that and this team will do this and the stats are that and how on paper the Cats are underdogs, and so on, etc, etc. The funny thing is, we've been hearing this all throughout the playoffs and most of the season and look at us now, 12 and 0 and in the Semi's.

You know why? H E A R T!

You can't teach it, you can't coach it! This team has IT!

Don't they get it? This is a team of destiny!

That's my take.

Here's an article about a couple of the Hawaii kids on the team:

CATS GONE WILD!

I love it! And they did it without all the cylinders firing. A little fix here... a little tweak there... look out UWW, here we come!

hmmm, I gotta figure out how to get "Ti" (hula) leaves to Wisconsin.

I could actually feel my blood pressure rising during that 1st qtr. (WTF! :o). But, after Boehme's score just before the half (Whew!), I was breathing OK again. The momentum shifted and that's all she wrote. Beautiful job by the coaching staff and execution by the boys!

The Tommies are worthy adversaries but, I'm sorry, "there 'ain't no stoppin' us now!"

SALEM, VIRGINIA OR BUST!!!

(I must Google, where the heck is it? Does Hawaiian fly there? hehehe)

Aloha,
Island Cat

Go D!

ps: Sorry I wasn't very social at last week's game and missed y'all (except for DC1, it's hard to miss him), but was a little under the weather. I did muster up up some Imodium and took my favorite D-Lineman, his girlfriend, her cousin, and a few of the other Island Cats to the buffet at the casino after the game (I nibbled in awe as I watched these boys put away 3 plates each, I think Stradz went for a 4th). I won a little on the quarter machine too! ;D

Back at Campus, I got to meet more of the players as they celebrated the win (with other friends from a different campus) with a little soire. What a great group of young adults. I'm so happy for my son to be able to experience college life at Linfield.

I'm proud to be a Linfield Dad!
