Given the track this season has taken I think that there has to be an element of playing for next year.  Once HSU had lost 2 D3 games, the hope of a playoff birth was pretty much gone, and once they were down 2 conference games conference title hopes were basically finished.  @ that point you are playing for next year, but you're doing by fighting through the rest of the season, getting experience for the less experienced, and you're finding out who the real leaders are.  That doesn't mean you don't want to win every game.  To the contrary, you want to win every game to build team confidence and instill a winning attitude.

I agree but what bothers me some is that the few games I have attended and seen is that you do have some seniors on this team that are starters and have been. I see them going away from those seniors in order to get some "experience for the inexperienced". This is their last go around and they are done. Thats just really not right. I know this is something new for HSU to be going through. In my opinion they should be featuring those seniors give them something to feel good about after all most will more than likely never put on a helmet again.

I STAND CORRECTED!!! I went back and slowed it down and listened to the broadcast. I want to publicly give my apologies to all HSU constituients especially coach Wartes. You said it EXACTLY right no one intended to not to win.

However as the playing for next year, it really seems as though thats whats happening. I dont mean that he doesnt want to win I think he does, but there have been some other comments that he has made to players that are miraculously playing another year that tell you he is playing for next year. I dont have issues with it at all. Just be what you are.

Bombscott - where is your sense of team pride? HSU is playing for this week not next year. You are insane if you think HSU doesn't intend on winning the rest of the games they have to play. I for one hope HSU comes out strong and silences some of the naysayers. You guys are just like Dallas Cowboy fans... Happy when we win, deserters when the chips are down. SHAME SHAME SHAME.

Hey now. I am just calling it like I see it. I think sometimes when you are not a former player or student you can see things more objectively. As for using the phrase that I am insane if I think HSU doesnt "intend" on winning, shall I refresh your memory to 3:19 of the archived broadcast of the MC college game. I think that says it all. You can find that at http://secure.stretchinternet.com/archive.php?user=hsu&event_id=60014

My son and I will be at the HSU game in 2 weeks where McM is going to beat HSU for the first time in what seems a lifetime.

Proudmcmdad,
I have to agree as long as the OC keeps calling the offense like he has been. If the offensive game plan continues McM will win. I went to the game at SR and I think the way the Lobo defense played was exactly what you have to do against the Cowboys offense, they just didnt have the players to make the plays. If I didnt know any better I would almost say HSU is playing for next year! :-X

The "whats left" comments at HSU are really not needed. You can nail it down to one. Because I truely believe if Justin Feaster was not hurt and playing there would be no issues. His injury makes the others bigger. His decision to not rehab and play is a totally different issue. I have never seen HSU in the SAME EXACT formation for that many plays in a row ever. I walked out on the field after the game and the rumblings I heard from players and fans suggest I wasnt alone in what I saw. I think we need a booth review of the booth.
