An article from today's Galesburg Register-Mail on Ron Rose's recruitment of Victor Davis...

http://www.galesburg.com/newsnow/x1859641374/Silver-Streaks-Notebook-Relentless-Rose-lands-Victor-Davis

GALESBURG —
The way it seemed, Ron Rose was looking to buy real estate inside John Thiel Gymnasium.

“I lost track of the number of games I saw there,” the Illinois Wesleyan men’s basketball coach said.

Home game after home game, Rose was seated somewhere near the front rows on the Galesburg side of Thiel, hardly trying to hide in the crowd. He was there for one purpose — to make Galesburg standout Victor Davis a Titan.

“The first time I saw him,” said Rose, who came across Davis in the 2008-09 season, “I thought, ‘Holy smokes!’ ”

Coach Rose makes it clear at the end of the piece that he expects Davis to contribute at the varsity level next season.  Victor should be very much in the competition for the starting 4 job.

Thats what every coach says to get a big time recruit to commit to their school.

Overseas leagues don't go from October-June like the NBA. Most are only 4 months long.  That leaves plenty of time for college, especially with all the online courses that are now available.

Thats not true at all.  Australias league runs during the Summer.  Thats one of the shorter overseas leagues to play in.  Many of the normal European leagues actual seasons like Germany, Lux, or Ireland run from Sept or Oct through April or May.  And then if its a serious club you can count on getting there a month earlier for preseason.

Jays stats are up.  I was only able to catch the tail end of the game when the Jays already had it sealed . Jays were down early and then tied it up at half.  About 7 minutes into the second half they took control and kept at least a 5 point cushion the rest of the way.

For the Jays, Childs and Boyd led the way.  Childs with 21 points on 7/10 shooting
Boyd with 15 on 6/10 shooting

Boyd was also the high rebounder with 6.

Only 2 in double figure scoring for Hamline.  Wenrich with 11 (all ft's)
Hipp with 24 on 8/14 shooting and 20 rebounds...

Roster says Hipp is 6'8'' and 225.  Jays are going to need the young bigs to step up and control the paint a little bit better...

Jays win the first game of the season at Hamline.  Believe it was 79-70.  No stats out yet.
