Just an interesting article.  A high school cancelled football game because of the other team's size!  I've never heard of this happening before! Does size really matter (In high school football).  I find it interesting because the year my eldest sons team were division champions they were known for being the smallest team in the division, but also the fastest!  They would have been so "embarassed" for the school to call the game because they were so much smaller than an other team.

What happened Cal Lu? Sad day... Hopefully the Dogs can get a win for the SCIAC!

Well it's not fun "Listening" to the game instead of being in the stands.......but at least things started happening in the 3rd quarter, I was getting bored, but "1" quarter left and we all know how things can change in the last quarter so I will stay tuned until the end........... :D  GO DAWGS!

Just cancelled my trip down to the Redlands.  My son got injured in the ETBU last weekend (shoulder) and it looks like he's out for this week (and I am slammed at work or I would still go).  Next week is our BY so maybe he'll heal and be ready to go for the CAL LU game in October.  Has NEVER been injured enough to sit out of a game BUMMER!

Good luck (and injury free) weekend to all!

Can't wait to hear what you guys have to say after this weekends games.  It's like getting a front row seat without having to travel. :D

After losing to the SoLutes I took a gander at their roster – and then the rest of the SCIAC.
I do not purport to know what all non-public high schools are but if the school had prep, St., academy, Bishop, Christian, Don, and so on, I counted it. I am familiar with So Cal non public schools.
CMS 25

La Verne 14

Occidental 26

Pomona-Pitzer 14

Redlands 21 (no, I did not count Valhalla H.S.)

Whittier 16 (no, not Bishop, CA)

CLU  31 (Sidelight, the SoLutes had only one recruit from a Lutheran private school and none from Orange Lutheran.)

LINFIELD 13
UW Whitewater 4

What's the point?
I dunno. Just the facts, Ma'am.

I think you have something...Top 3 SCIAC football schools also the top 3 with private school HS grads on roster....Mean anything....maybe, maybe not...

Statistics are used much like a drunk uses a lamp post: for support - VIN SCULLY

CAL LU - 31
Oxy - 26
CMS - 25
Redlands - 21

I wouldn't rank CMS in the top three over Redlands!  LOL

Do you think the recruiting from private school produce better players?  I'd be curious to see how many of the starters are from private vs. public if that is the case.

I glanced at the "Redlands Roster" and only having a sophmore on the team I would say the players that I know that are stand-out athletes don't necessarily have the private school history! (Of course I don't claim to know who all the STAND OUT ATHLETES ARE) Just something to think about..........More DRUNK STATISTICS TO PONDER LOL!

BTW Yes I have two "log in names"!  When I am at work my computer auto logs me in as jodidipiero and when I am at home (those late night posts that don't make sense) I am logged in as jdD3FBfan (or something like that)!  Sorry to confuse everyone!

The reason you see so many Private School attending SCIAC schools is the cost.  Redlands is almost $45,000 a year to live on campus.  If you can afford a Private School you can afford Redlands or you go to a JC, Cal State, like a majority of Public School kids in CA.  Linfield is about $30,000, but non of the JC's in Oregon play football, so the public school kids gotta go somewhere.  UW Whitewater is $6500 a semester or $13,000 a year.  Redlands is around 2,000 students, Linfield is over 2,500 students, and UW Whitewater has 10,700 students.  That would be like a Cal State or UC system school playing D3 football.

Just pulled out my sons financial aid package=Total $48,294 (on Campus) and since these football players eat like they have bottomless stomachs, it will cost even more when his meal plan money runs out!    ;D

Thank goodness he is a smart kid! (NO HE DID NOT GO TO A PRIVATE SCHOOL)!!! I have to say, Redlands absolutely offered him the BEST financial aid package (Scholarships/Grants)especially compared to all the other schools (From the East Coast to the West Coast)!

Only "4" more days until another great "SCIAC" football weekend!  Good luck and an injury free weekend to all!

Article on Redlands defense. Note that Ian Sluss has left the team which is a huge loss for the defense. He has started at middle linebacker from day one he set foot on campus as a freshmen, which is very rare to see.
"With the graduation of Josh Cunningham and Scott Garner, and the fact that sophomore standout Ian Sluss had to leave the team for personal reasons, Mariani will have to break in three new starters.
"We're still trying to piece things together," said Mariani, whose job only got harder when potential starter Cameron Mann was lost for the season with a torn ACL.

Mariani said Antonio Santini, Jordan Garcia and Justin Butler are currently the front-runners for the starting jobs. "

WOW sounds like a lot happening with the defense already! I guess we'll find out how well "THEY'VE BEEN PIECED TOGETHER" on Saturday morning at ETBU!  It is always sad when a player is "out for the season" especially when the season hasn't even begun yet!  ???

Ian leaving is a huge loss (personal reasons)?  R we keeping this under tight wraps like Coach DW's suspension? :D

Good luck to everyone in their games this weekend.  I wish I could be every where at once and see everyone play, but this weekend I'm stuck at work listening to the Redlands game on the radio..............not quite the same!

Chapman has already played and beat USC 22-9 at Ernie Chapman Field where the Panthers football teams play their home games.

Although I love the "banter" between everyone on the boards regarding the SIAC, I just wanna say to ALL the athletes at Chapman........The fact that you are NOT a member of SIAC doesn't take away from who you are as students athletes.  I know you work just as hard on and off the field as the Oxy, CLU and Redlands athletes.  So continue to do what you love, have fun, enjoy your college experience and who cares what "League or Conference or Division" you do it in!  Loved the video, great camera/editing work!

Ok Jodidipero and K4.  What do you have to bring to the table then about football or are you going to only complain about the lack of SCIAC football talk and not actually talk about football?

Wildcat11:
Isn't there a code that you have to be "nice" to fellow "Oregonians"?  I was born and raised in Oregon, tried to talk my son into going to Linfield, but he was born and raised in California and has spent a "TON" of time in Oregon and doesn't like the weather!  I would much rather be watching football in the cold/rain of Oregon than the 100 degree weather in Redlands, LOL! :-\  He is VERY happy with his decision so I just layer on the suncreen and deal with it!

Just to make sure this post is well rounded, I want to also include news from the rival doggies. I hear Redlands has hit the weights hard and should have the best looking pre-game squad in the sciac for another year. Their chants, claps, and synchronized barks are on point, and they have installed perfect pushup stations under the bleachers for last minute tricep pump up sessions. Whether they actually took the field for practice or just stayed in the weight room for extra sets of cleans "lattimer style" is still unknown.

That's all I got for now.

Kingsmen4:
Great paragraph!  Ended my day with a big smile!  My son even got a kick out of it!

Hopefully the topics will improve as football season gets closer!

Welcome to the message board. On behalf of all Oxy fans, we look forward to seeing your son on the field when the Bulldogs get their 7th straight beating from the Tigers.

OxyBob

OxyBob:
Yes, my son was on the field for the "sixth straight beating" last year and it was the ONE GAME I didn't travel down to see (my bad) I'm still upset about it!  Win or lose I love a good battle on the field.  This year I will make sure that I'm there to see the Bulldogs stop the Tiger's winning streak! ;)

Hopefully by then Redlands will have a "complete" football staff.  Quite a big turnover this past year.  It was almost comical there for a while.  I couldn't keep track of who was coming and going (it was like a revolving door)!   :(

How about football

I agree!

Can everyone put their penis' away and get back on track here! (LOL)  I haven't been following the boards for a couple of months, logged on today to see what I've missed and realized it's been nothing but a pissing contest~!

Hopefully the topics will improve as football season gets closer!
