I see that the coach from Hood college has signed 3 new players, all within the last 4 weeks. It's a wonder that he can find available players so close to the start of the next academic school year.

What's the deal with the E.C.A.C. South tournament this year? No teams from the CC or the CAC invited. Didn't anyone from the CC want to participate this year? Just wondering.

As far as Hopkins running game, who knows, maybe they'll be able to recruit a big 225 lb. freshmen to take the place of Kase, but unless they do, they will have to alter their running game. Rigaud has real good speed and can be gone if he gets around the outside corner. He will be a Sophmore and will probably be the main running attack. He only weighs in at 165 lb. Being young, he'll probably put on some weight, but hopefully not so much that it will affect his speed. The other two reserve running backs are also light weights, O'Connor and Fazio, at 175 and 185 lb's respectively. They can be effective between the tackles. Also look for more use of Porco, (the running QB).

Hopkins is hosting a 2 day tourny, so they will play on Sunday, with the other team to be determined. I noticed that Ferber-Miller did not play in the Blue Jay last game. Don't know why not. I hope he's still with the team and not injured. That would be a big blow to their game.

Good article in today's Baltimore Sun paper about the new head football coach at Stevenson University and his recruiting efforts. In the article he stays that because of lower tuition costs he feels that he may be able to get some of the student-athletes that would go to Hopkins or McDaniels. I really don't think that his efforts will take away from Hopkins, because they really don't have that many local players on their team. But, seeing as their location is fairly close to Carroll County, they may take a few recruits away from McDaniels. Being in the CC should keep McDaniel as the preferred choice over playing an independent schedule, but we'll see in time.

I guess, now the announcers will have to stop referring to Tyler Porco as "the running quarterback." Congrats on the great game, to both squads.

Dave,
Appreciate your comments. I was a little surprised that you said that Hopkins had size. The only player with good size was Ferber-Miller and Hood did a great job of collasping on him whenever he got the ball. The other 2 players with good size for Hopkins never got in the game. Hood looked very good, forcing Hopkins to giveup on their inside game, except for driving layups. Was unable to get to Sunday's game against Salisbury.

First night of the "Pride of Md." tourny down. Hopkins- easy win over Stevenson 75-53, while giving a lot of the freshmen extended playing time. Washington lost to Hood 58-55, and very surprising score of the McDaniels game. St Mary's college defeated McDaniel's 83-56. St. Mary's is probably the cream of the tourney, but, I thought that McDaniels could either beat them, or be a close game.

Heard on the radio driving up to the McDaniels game, that today's game will be the school's 1,000th college football game. Quite a milestone. They mentioned that a few other Centennial schools have also accomplished this task. I believe they said Dickinson and Gettysburg.

It was good to finally see a decent size crowd show up for a Hopkins football game. Attendance was put at 2300. Reminded me of the 80's when they always had crowds of 2000 plus people. Hopefully some of this spirit will carry over into next season, and possibly another post season home game.

Checking out the Hopkins roster for this season, besides the 4 seniors that graduated, it appears that two other players won't be back. One a senior and the other a junior. This has got to hurt. Although, I believe that the Blue Jays can put a good starting five out on the court, the bench will be lacking. They will have 7 new freshmen, (4 listed as guards and 3 as forwards) on the team this year. Hope these freshmen can fit in early into the season.
