Two things -- I think it's fair to give the playoffs more prominence on a Top 25 ballot because they are games against other ranked opponents on the big stage. Also, beating teams by an average of 29 or 23 is irrelevant -- they are both basically blowouts and should we base a ranking off which team had a late score with second teamers or returned a punt or had a pick-six?

NCC is impacted because the team they barely lost to wasn't as good as we thought they were.

"Not as good as we thought they were" or played poorly in the last game?!? Every poll including the "best poll in d3" had them #1 ALL year. If we are giving the playoffs "more prominence" Lets look at the playoffs...Linfield had competitive games in their 2 wins and our conference (CCIW) rep had non-competitive games until their loss to EVERYONE's #1.

I would love to see YOUR (Pat) final ranking, since we look to you as the d3 guru.
Why did Franklin DROP 6 places after losing to UWW? and how come St. Norbert (31-3 loss to UWW) didn't finish in the top 10 with their 1st round loss to UWW.

While I'm posting: Shouldn't 1st team All-Americans and 1st team All-Regions at least be 1st team all-conference?
Augie LB 2nd team ALL-CCIW but 1st Team D3,
Wheaton DT not even HM CCIW, but 2nd Team North Region D3.
Titans need more national love.
Just posting for the record. What a fun year in D3 football...on to hoops.

Good Luck to all 3 former Titan players who are leading their teams today in the NCAA D3 playoffs:
Norm Eash - IWU
John Thorne - North Central
Mike Maynard - Redlands

Do we know when Regional Rankings come out? I see the AFCA has Wheaton back ahead of the Titans, while D3 has Titans on top. What will the region rankings show?

As a former IWU player on one of the championship teams, and still want to have a dog in the race. I would like to weigh in: Titan Q, IWU70, Green Jello...you are ALL wrong on this one, stop defending this joke.

I and many of my teammates are sick and tired of our Head Coach being the long-standing, hypocritical, self-centered, ASS of the CCIW for years now. He continues to embarrass us and the program by how he handles these situations. When we were playing...WE were wondering why we were still in games, throwing the ball to score when games were all locked down. Every week his motivation was something personal about "their" coach. It was about Norm vs the other coach.

I would also like to view "his" book on professionalism in the coaching profession. He is the BIGGEST Pot calling the kettle.

I referenced after the North Park Game how I was surprised to see our Starting RB and Starting WR still returning kicks up 45-7 and 45-14 in the 4th Qtr. But didn't say how I was disappointed to see us throwing in the 4th qtr with the same scores.

SCORE IWU 45-North Park 7 (Clock 7:35) ball NP 37: NORM Calls 3 consecutive pass plays, incomplete, incomplete, interception.
SCORE 45-14 (Clock 5:26) Artie Checchin (3rd leading receiver in the CCIW) returns a kick 78 yards to the NP 11: NORM Calls a pass play to the 5, and runs it in on the next play. IWU 52-North Park 14 (Playoff point concerns?!?)

How about Carthage game?
IWU 24 - Carthage 3 (Clock 4:51) left in the 4th
IWU gets the Ball on the Carthage 29 – Norm Calls PASS for 21 yds, Run for 5 yds (pen -5), PASS for 5 yds, incomplete PASS,   PASS to score a TD (Gallik to Musselman 3 yd TD pass) to go up by 28. 1 Run Play and 4 Pass Plays.

Here was Saturdays game (remarkably similar, except Norm is behind)
NCC 39 – IWU 27 (Clock 2:35) left in the 4th
NCC get the Ball on their own 48 – Run for 1 yd, Run for 45 yds, run for no gain, pass for 5 yds, rush for 1 yd & TD, to go up by 29.
4 Run Plays and 1 Pass Plays.

Look in the mirror and get out of your glass house if you are going to throw stones.

I desperately want the Titan players to win and advance in the playoffs, but when I look out there at the coaching profession. I would hitch my "professionalism wagon" to Titan John Thorne, not sad sobber Stormin Norman!

oops sorry the NCC score before the final score should have read:
NCC 39- IWU 17

Hoping home field still helps the Titans like 05, 07, 09, 11!!! My only worry is that the last 2 years we have only beaten 1 winning team; Hope 14-7 this year. This will be the win that we need to silence the critics.

Is Velling done for the year?

Massey currently has Wheaton beating Illinois Wesleyan in Week 8, 27-21 (67% probability), North Central beating Illinois Wesleyan in Week 9, 31-17 (85% probability), and North Central beating Wheaton for the CCIW title and the Little Brass Bell in Week 10, 31-27 (64% probability).

I love this system!   ;D.

We need to make sure we revisit this post after the 2nd week in November. Very Interesting...can't say that it sounds too far off. A couple plays each game would turn the predicted outcomes. Seems reasonable.

Congrats to Stanek, Dansdill and Devonte Jones for weekly CCIW honors.  Jones had an explosive first half, running for 166 on 10 tries, but got the award for his nearly 160 return yards, including a long one in the fourth Q.  He's leading the D3 national stats chart in the kickoff return category, averaging about 47 yards per return.

Titans to Carthage now -- then the run of upcoming big games:  IWU vs. WC, IWU vs. NCC and NCC vs. WC.  Some great games upcoming, no doubt.

Gallik was again very effective and accurate, with many WR and TE options.   Titans are deep, have a great corps of receivers.  By the way, Stinde played well, too, and had 99 yards on Saturday, so almost 2 100 yard RBs for the Titans.

Another big, good, loud Homecomin crowd.  The IWU Pep band is the best in the nation, IMHO.  Really makes for a great D3 football atmosphere.  Thanks to all the musicians, too.

Yes congrats to the trio. I was surprised to read your comment about Devonte's 4th qtr. KOR...Why do we have our stud in the game for a return, late in the blowout game vs North Park?!? So I go read the play by play and see that we are also throwing in the 4 th qtr to our starting stud fullback, Conley. I would like to have our guys healthy and playing in the BIG games coming up, rather than winning the Special Teams POW!

I'm sure Elmhurst is aware of Ponx's interviewing blunder.

I missed this "blunder"...anything you can share?

Congrats to all of the Co-Champs...What a year in the CCIW. Good Luck to all playoff teams.

PLEASE Titan fans, stop mentioning injuries with every post . Everyone has them and nobody really likes to hear the crying. As an alum, I would rather we just worry about the things we can control, and figure out a way to beat just 1 winning team before we start to say how promising a season is.

Have a great selection Sunday and let's see if we can get 3 teams in.

Point taken, but while every team incurs injuries, I can't recall a top team (IWU was ranked #12 in the nation before the Wheaton loss) being THIS decimated by injury since Wheaton in 2009 (who were ranked #3 nationally before disaster struck and finished 1-3).  Depth is an absolute necessity for elite teams, but at some point injuries can overtake anything that depth can reasonably overcome.

ugh...no wonder we get called green weenies

If you would have told me with 5 minutes left in the Wheaton game that IWU would finish 3-4 in the CCIW, __________________.

(I couldn't think of anything to finish this with, so pick your own ending...you know what I'm saying.)

...you should have told me another NORMal year.
with 6:50 left in that game and up 9 points (2 scores)...we have 2 possessions: rushing 3 times (5, -2, 3), 3 clock stopping passes (2 inc and 1 int), 1 false start pen. and consume 1:57 (int on 3rd down) and 1:11 off of the clock. All before Gallik gets hurt.

Sucks to be in the bottom 4 all over again. CCIW wins: Mil (1 win took us to 2OT), Car (1 win), and NP (0 wins)...better keep scheduling non-conference wins!
