I was at the game and it was quite a fun atmosphere. Lots of fans, and everyone was pretty into it. Two observations from the game:

1. Why the hell would the Auggies try and pass on two separate 4th and inches situations? With past Auggie teams that couldn't run the ball as effectively, I could see it. But this freshman RB is the real deal, and he was running really well on the Tommies. I think those two plays were huge turning points in the game.

2. Caruso really has a thing for screaming at refs, huh? I understand most coaches do, but there were a couple of times that he was 5-10 yards out on the field, screaming at an official for quite a while. On the 50 yard TD run to make it 17-0, he was screaming at the ref for about 2 minutes during the run and after the run. Just thought it was a bit strange since it was a TD run that essentially won the game....

I only played in two night games, both of them against Wartburg I believe. They were a ton of fun, and they gave a great atmosphere to the game.

Beating Wartburg on the last play of the game in overtime helped too  ;D

What?!?!?! Every MIAC historian has to remember the Cigar Bowl!!! http://www.tommiesports.com/news/GeneBlog_28.html

I've heard quite a bit about the Cigar Bowl...But I'm WAY too young of a buck to have been around for it. Quite an interesting story though!

Being a young buck, it is remarkable to me that there was a time that Augsburg was good at football.

Funny, with the exception of the past two years, I was thinking the same thing about the Tommies  ;)

Johnnie-Auggie game story/recap up now at www.JohnnieFootball.com

You forgot to mention that Touchdown Purple Tommy picked the exact score of the game in his pregame article.  Way to go, TDPT! :-*  And now comes the week TDPT has been waiting for since last year's game.  He's gotta be picking the Toms by two or three touchdowns at least.

I was trying to stay professional, objective and not to give TDPT any more reasons to gloat that he hit the score right on the number. If I know TDPT like I do,I'm pretty much thinking he'll be predicting the score of the SJU/UST game at something like 73-3 in favor of the Tomcats. I also have a feeling he will be taking action on the Stagg Bowl. TDPT will probably allow all interested parties to take the field (all teams except UST) and he'll take the Tomcats, give 24 points and 10-1 odds. In his purple tainted mind, this is a better investment than owning the Cow Pie Bingo stand at the Stearns County Fair  ;)

On another note it was nice to meet & visit with Auggiedoggie57 yesterday at the game. 8-)

It was great to meet you as well! Too bad the game wasn't closer, but I suppose it is what it is.

This should be an interesting weekend, wish I could be there to see it live. Good luck, I gotta say, I'm pulling for the Johnnies. Couldn't tell you why, but my god do I hate the Tommies

Welcome to the board, and congrats on your career...even if it was at Augsburg ;)

Well thank you... I guess ;D But seriously, I was very happy with my choice to go to Auggie. My final two schools, believe it or not, were Augsburg and Whitewater! I visited Whitewater twice, and met with Coach Berezowitz. Seemed like an incredible program, not to mention I would have a ring right now obviously. I'll never forget when I called to let them know I'd be attending Auggie. They seemed rather surprised! However, I really enjoyed the family feel of the Auggie team, and I wouldn't trade my experiences there for anything.

Good assessment...shared by a few SJU fans too. Mental hurdles are a beast. SJU's defense is as stout as it gets though...I was really suprised the way their defensive front was able to  get lower then our offensive line, which has been stellar the last two regular seasons. Hopefully they both can take care of Coe and Monmouth so I can hit up Stiftungfest one more time this year.

Yea, SJU is pretty incredible against the run. Obviously, we dont really focus too much on the run, but they have a great set of linebackers, and a very solid d-line. The way that the d-line plays is very difficult for an o-lineman. The way they read your initial movement can really mess with you, especially when they back 2-3 yards off the ball!

Hello MIAC PP!
Former Auggie player here, long time board watcher, and now that my playing days are done, I figured its time to start sharing some insight.
Just for the record, I truly enjoyed reading this board for the past 4 years. Its been pretty interesting.

Now, I realize this will go against the popular opinion of this board, but I really think UST is a more talented, explosive football team. Their offense is good, really good. Their defense? Maybe slightly overrated, but still pretty solid.

Does that mean that UST would beat the Johnnies? Im not sure, but if they meet up in the playoffs, I will certainly try to attend. It would be a pretty good first game to attend as a MIAC alum.

Good luck to both of the MIAC teams!
