Huuuuuuuuuuuuuuuge game for the Scots manana! Here's to a great basketball game filled with feisty play right down to the very end. The cool part about this game is that it is an awesome precursor to next year as well when DePauw enters into the fray. First really big NCAC test for the SCOTS.

Generals squeak one out despite a massive number of turnovers. Still, I'll take the win. Next up... the big attempt at a road fish fry... W&L has two losses each by 2 points. I'll be interested to see how they hold up in Virginia Beach.
Just saw this! Wow....what a win. This is very huge and should catapult them into honorable mention so long as at he very least they keep it close with VWC. An upset saturday could really, really, really be huge for the program. I can only imagine the players' confidence level right now. Protecting home court too. Big.
Interested to hear what others have to say. What I saw from the minutes, it was the usual in terms of substitutions, with nobody playing over 26-28 minutes and most everyone playing over 10. Sounds like something is working.

Don Ho....I... like you.... are of a time where first string would play hard for 7 to 8 minutes before any subs. And quality teams would maybe go 8 deep in their rotation..... Times have changed...if there is depth in one's roster.... able to rest legs...limit fouling, ....and still win...then I'm for it.
HSC Dad, I always fear facing HSC. Well coached, great atheletic scholars, and I remember what they did to us in Crenshaw last February. It's a long way for all of us to go. After all...... it is THE ODAC!
May all our students have healthy seasons!
I'm with "Tiny Bubbles" - the coach or supporters can sell the 3 minute sub as new wave. The overwhelming conventional wisdom tells me that the coach doesn't have confidence in the player he yanks. If the player is out of shape or consistently making bad decisions then he doesn't deserve to start; or, the coach enjoys head games. While I'm commenting about RMC program. I'll take a shot at my Generals too. We have 10 players averaging double digit minutes. Most of us would think we're blowing people out, to spread playing time around like that. We're only 6 pts better per game. I wish we'd settle on our top 8 and develop some consistency. Our top 2 guys are on the bench for 13/14 minutes a game after that only 2 other guys play slightly more than a half. Hard to get rhythm or momentum working for you there.
@ BaselineJam....I am sorely confused. Your team is winning aren't they? Nobody complains about Mike Moran who is winning and subs 3-5 players every 3.5-5.0 minutes. You are a WLU fan right? Supposed to be a supporter, right? As am I. They are winning bro. I just don't get all of the frustration. Your team is WINNING and has been the last three years with this philosophy, and I just rarely see anything positive posted on here about Generals coaching. It is really baffling me and disheartening from supporter to supporter. Nobody has put together 3 winning seasons in a row EXCEPT: Young, Canfield, and Hutchinson. I think that's pretty, pretty darn good whatever the rotation. Now, is it fan friendly? Not if you like to listen to people complain. Is it player friendly? For the talent level at WLU and some of the other institutions, absolutely. It's a formula that allows everyone to play, you know you can play as hard as you can, get a blow, and then get back in. Now, is it liked by everyone, nope- which is obvious. Even the young guys get the chance to play. And, if there is a player- regardless of what year they are in the program- who doesn't get it done, or a younger player is better, in most programs guess who plays? The younger player- at least in the programs that are WINNING. People's feelings might get hurt, but in the long run when players go look in the mirror instead of being pacified by parents or a nosey fan, usually the proof is in the pudding, and not that coach was trying to ride me out of town. Just some thoughts.
Just an observation, with all due respect.
There are some programs who play their horses til they die, sub for 2 minutes, and then they get back in there. It typically shows lack of depth due to skill level or youthfulness. So I think you go with what works for you, not based off of some panoramic view of other programs and what used to happen. Each program has different personnel, different kids coming in and out from recruiting, etc. Whatever helps you win and do so respectfully, do it. That's what I was taught at every level- whether I liked the lesson or not, lol.
Go Generals!

WLU finished off Haverford, albeit they let them hang around. It was not the prettiest game in the world from what I can gather watching on internet. One major concern is having only 6 assist to 17 TO's. Usually you don't win like that, but somehow they found a way. One major plus, they are getting to the FT line on a consistent basis which may take away the assist. Haverford obviously isn't a bunch of world beaters, but a wins a win with a young team that should come away this weekend 3-0 as they play Swarthmore today. The young kids seem to be playing well and learning from their mistakes. It will take some time, but if they can continue improving, it should be interesting for them when ODAC play begins. 2-0 nevertheless, so its a start.

In a game up at Haverford.....WLU is up 32-20 with 2:46 to go in the first half. Started slow and nothing was dropping (this includes lay ups) but they have kept the TO's down and the cap has come off the bucket. HU is hacking away it seems and the Gennies could be in for a big win on the road.

The Generals squeaked one out at home. Somewhat disturbing to not see Cimino in the line up. He's the only senior, captain, leading retuning scorer. Last season he was the assist leader and 2nd in minutes played. I hope he's not hurt.
They did play very well for their youth. A bunch of soph's and frosh basically. As I mentioned before, so long as they play hard, they can play with anyone. They need to make a higher percentage of FT's and control the glass which helps with the tempo of course. They'll also need to cut down on the TO's. Overall good showing for a team with a ton of question marks. How bout that CHARGE!!! As for Cimino, I'm sure there was a reason he didn't play and that it wasn't some run of the mill yank/benching. We'll see as the time goes along.
Go Gennies!

Geez - back to the crickets again.
I've tried to ferret out some Gennie info from my best contacts. We'll see if I can get scoop on the newbies.
The Generals will be fine. My prediction will be 4th in the league again. They'll go through some identity stuff as usual, but they are far from the doormats of the league that they were before Hutchinson got there. Overall, again they'll finish 4th. The top 3 teams in the league are just solid, but the rest will beat up on one another. Don't be surprised though if they finish 3rd. Yes, I know its a stretch, but there is no way anyone goes undefeated in the league this year, and so long as the Gennies split with at least one of the big 3-which they will, maybe 2- they will have their nose right in the thick of things. They'll be picked anywhere from 4-6 by the league voters of course, maybe even lower.
My question is this, Shenandoah? Could the league have gotten a more quality academic team to help balance some things out? Sheesh. I like the add of DePauw to the NCAC, they are an excellent academic institution and will make the top 3-4 teams that much more competitive and force the tourney selection committee to look more formidably to adding a 3rd NCAC team to the mix. Adding Shenandoah, in my eyes, has added another lower tier team especially academically. We'll see how it works out.
Let's GO Generals!!! (In my best Brandeis super fan voice!!!)

Was just looking at all of Depauw's sports and WOW! This is a major upgrade from Earlham who was just pretty much awful in everything in all honesty. The Tigers will undoubtedly force a shakeup in EVERY sport on both the Men's and the Women's side, in particular basketball, track, xc, football, and baseball. Very exciting.
Any thoughts on how this will affect recruiting? DePauw recruits on a more national base given their old Conference having at least 5 players last season from outside IN. Most NCAC schools don't have this as the core of their rosters are from the neighboring cities give or take 200 miles.
As for hoops (since this is a hoops board), this could really have an effect on Gheny, OWU, and Kenyon competing again for a while for an NCAC title. Woo, DePauw, and Witt (IN THAT ORDER) are now the favorites ten fold. I could see OWU possibly sneaking back up there, but for the most part this looks to be the top 3 with a big gap between 3-4-10 once again.

Congrats to coach GVW! We'll miss the battles, the cheers, and the jeers. Total class act. Won't be the same without you. Had the pleasure of seeing coach at the Mich State Hoops Championships and he looked great. Hope all is well.....and this is the one time you will ever here me say..."Go Hope". I would imagine it would stay in house, as jobs like that only come open like really twice a century. I'd imagine the same would be at Woo now as well as Rochester where Neer, another great has recently retired. I think that job will go to Sweeney if he wants it. Again congrats.

GREAT season for the Scots particularly after the way they started. Happy for the guys, and boy did Franks solidify himself as one of the finest players in Woo history. In all truth, he reminds me of another young man who finished his career very well with the Scots by the name of Steve Thompson. Steve grew and came out of no where to really step up and play well! What do you guys think?
Great job fellas and this should be an interesting summer for the Scots.
The EMU- Guilford game will be a dandy

Yeah, absolutely fantastic article on Franks today. Congrats!!
Now, in terms of the Scots chances this weekend. They can get Guilford. Not sure if anyone has ever been to the barn down there, but its a decent gym. Backdrop makes it interesting for shooters. With that being said, the Scots are going to have to do 3 things (no brainers)
1) Control the glass
2) Control the tempo
3) Hallowell is going to need to show up and have a game. Franks and the other guys have really been carrying the Scots. If JH can step it up and give more offensively- because Guilford will do all it can to clamp down on Franks, then the Scots will come away with a big game. I don't think GC is expecting Hallowell to have a good game, and boy oh boy is he due!!!
LETS GO SCOTS!!!!

UM I HATE TO SAY THIS, BUT YOU ALL KNEW IT WAS COMING.
I TOLD YOU SO.
Man. Welp, cheer for us, at least we're in the same region.
Sounds like it was a good game though. And a hush comes over the crowd.
All fun though. In all seriousness, we should really get an MIAA NCAC weekend maybe like a friday sat thing somewhere.
GO SCOTS!
(LOL)
It will be a heck of a game. But hey, at least you got the chance to dance. All you ask for is an invitation to the ball. The rest you gotta take care of for yourself.

Decent half. Didn't shoot the ball particularly well, but we'll be ok. Barring anything crazy, game will go to the SCOTS. GCC looks nervous and just doesn't have the athletes to compete at the level where the SCOTS- who seem to be in a diff gear tonight!!- are playing.
