I am not certain that Beloit won it because they were that good or because the others were so far below what was expected of them.

Sorry Buc Em Up.  Afraid I am going to have to agree with Big Poppa.  While I am glad to see Beloit in the Tourney again the North really seems to be down this year.  Last Year 3 teams won 20 or more games this year you might only have one team with a winning record.

Ripon drops another game today to fall to 0-4 on the season....  OUCH!!!

The north is definitely not looking like the stronger side of the conference this year.  Ripon 0-4  St Norbert 1-3.   {Beloit might actually have a shot at the north if they both keep playing like this.} Monmouth 6-1  Illinois College 7-2.

Not sure about quality of competition but I don't think anybody expected Ripon and Norbert to struggle like this to start out the year.

I almost forgot.  I'm excited to watch via webcast when Ripon 'flys' down to Middleofnowhere, IL to dismantle the Blue Children   ;D

Hi.  I'm Jim.  I'm a message boardaholic.  I felt compelled to say that because I actually found myself, sadly, going to Wikipedia to research the advantage Ripon, Wisconsin has over Middleofnowhere, IL.  My research indicated that those who live in glass houses shouldn't want to play that card...   ;D

I know little or nothing about Wisconsin geography.  But at first glance, it doesn't look like Ripon is on, what would be described as, "the beaten path".  Nor does its published/claimed population of 7700 +/- bring to mind skyscrapers and a thriving nightlife.  Now, as a result of personal and direct experience, I can say that, despite J-ville's bustling population of nearly 19,000, it's likely not gonna puff its chest out too much on the subjects of great eateries, and big city culture.  But then again, I'm from Houston, Texas.  What the hell do I know about that stuff?  Having not been to Ripon, I can't compare the two (J-ville and Ripon), but either claiming much of an advantage here is kinda like being the tallest midget...  As for the "Blue Children" reference, all I can say is ain't no child that leaves three tracks in the sand...    ;)

So here's the deal, Red.  I look forward to the trip to Ripon when the schedule opens up to makes that a possibility.  And it will.  And, when it does, you gotta hook a brotha up with some of the finest cuisine and hospitality Ripon has to offer.  Should you make it to either Houston or J-ville, I'll do likewise.  But be forewarned, the demographics in Houston, at least according to Wikipedia, might be a bit shocking to you.   ;)

Gonna have to agree with Blu on this one.  Been to Ripon a number of times to watch baseball games and while the campus is beautifull I would be stretching the truth if I were to say it was a booming metropolis.

I really am surprised they didn't move either Stevens Point or St Thomas down to this regional.  I did guess that Rose Hulman would be placed here So I was half right.

I see a lot of posting about Webster, but I still am not sold on them at this point.  Could easily loose to Ripon in the first game.   Agree with Big Poppa on Rose Hulman. They could be a force.  Have played and beat some pretty solid teams this year, but did slump toward the end of the regular season.

I am going to pick Illinois Wesleyan.  Don't as me why.  Just have a feeling.
How much longer does that feeling hold out?   :)

Still Feeling Good.  Mr. Ypsi is probably passed out somewhere though.

NCAA did Carthage no favors putting them in the Midwest this year.  The opening day pitching match-ups look brutal.

The Rose Hulman / NCC  and IWU / Buena Vista games look like they will be good.  Not that familiar with NCC.  Who does it look like they will throw?  Rose will probably throw Eitel.

Ripon 7, St. Norbert 4
Ripon moves to the championship. Jandron with the loss. Winske ejected.
His second in less than a month.....
In his defense the plate ump yesterday had an interesting zone, judging by what I saw on the GC video feed. The feed gave a good look at pitches.

What inning did he get tossed in?

Was he trying to light a fire under his team, or did he just loose patience with the strike zone.  I did see a lot of Struck out Looking in the live stats.

Ripon Leads Grinnell 11-4 Bottom of 9th.

Not sure about St Norbert / Illinois College.  No Live Stats just audio and I cannot seem to connect.

St Nobert has the advantage in this weekends tourney.  Playing Illinois College may allow them to save a pitcher for the 2nd round.

Ripon has the players to win but is young on the infield.  Pitching depth seems to be a strength for them.  Looks like they could survive a loss and still make the finals.

Grinnell has 2 quality starters in Pope and Harris but only 1 other pitcher has more than 30 innings of work.  Not sure even if they win first 2 games that they can close out the tourney.

Illinois College.  Kind of a wild card of the tourney.  Best starting pitcher (Williams) has a 4.85 ERA.  Is 3-7 for last 10 games.  Looks like the best bet for a 2 and out performance.

I see Norbert finally winning the Tourney this year.

Here is a list or some Beloit recruits.

Sorry Roop doesn't look like any big men included.   Tallest so far appears to be the kid from Minnesota at 6-5

Ripon took two from Carroll 13-3 and 12-6 to secure a spot in the MWC playoffs with SNC from the North.  Ripon and Carroll conclude the series tomorrow at Ripon.

I assume that Beloit misses the MWC tourney?

Yep.

With the way the region is setting up it definitely looks like they will be bringing in a non-region team.  My guess would be Wisc Stevens Point.  Could also see someone like a Rose Hulman being brought over.  Maybe both.

Looks like the bids will go to.

CCIW - 2 bids
IIAC - 1 bid
SLIAC - 1 bid
MWC - 1 bid - may end up in mid-west again this year.

Beloit succumbed to the pre-season ranking/pressure and never really put anything together this season.

Sort of like Carthage.

Sorry BP.  I gave kind of a rude comment back.

I will admit I was disappointed in Beloit's season but just goes to show how far they came in such a short period of time.

A couple of years ago they would have been doing back flips down the first base line if you told them Beloit had a 20 win season.

wow, sure seems like st. norbert has some double standards. No problem with making a game official when they are winning but wasn't it just earlier this week when they protested a game in the eigth inning against beloit that they were losing? interesting....

The difference was that in the Beloit game the officials decided to end the game because of darkness after the 8th inning had already started.  This is something they should have decided prior to the start of the inning or at least warned both coaches.  In this case it appears that the game went through the fifth and both teams decided to end it.

I will give St Norberts and Beloit coaches credit in the fact that they wanted to settle it on the field.
