We should know sometime tonight or tomorrow morning what Vegas thinks about this matchup.

I'm expecting something like NCC -17.5 and would expect a total around 70.. but we'll see. Definitely a new matchup for oddsmakers to deal with considering there have only been 6 different teams (I think) that have played in the Stagg Bowl in the last 10 seasons. Cortland will be the 7th.

70 should be the O/U on NCC points.  Your numbers would be "put the mortgage down" type numbers, I hope Vegas agrees with you

I've got a feeling this is going to look a lot like the 2021 UHMB-NCC Stagg bowl. NCC were able to do a bit offensively but the athletes at the skill positions for UHMB were a level above NCC and NCC ultimately couldn't cope.

That said, my prediction for Wartburg was way off so... (and oddly enough I thought that one would look like the OTHER NCC-UHMB meeting).

with all due respect to Cortland, that would be a dream for ESPN and the NCAA (are they one in the same these days?).  I'm hoping for a competitive shoot-out, but it's going to be a physical mismatch with a bunch of long NCC runs and pop passes for TDs.  63-21.  Cortland will keep the starters in a get a late TD

Amazing effort, Cortland. That was so great to watch. Way to do the E8 proud!

Nice to hear from you PG.

E8 thread isn't very lively these days (years), but a nice showing this week in terms of OOC record.  I watched some of the Fisher game today and their offense was sharp.  Defense was solid too.  I suspect a significant part of that was based on the opponent.  But I'll take beating Buff State 62-21 this year over the 21-14 win they eeked out last year.

Cortland is putting a hurting on Buff State.  They're up 44-0 at the half.  Looks like they will be the team to beat in the E8 this year.

Hobart currently on top of Fisher 14-7 at the half.  It's been a chippy game, lots of personal fouls and unsportsmanlike conduct penalties.  Hobart knocked out Fisher's QB on a late hit as he was sliding down to finish a run.  He's on crutches so I doubt he'll be playing in this game again.

Not shaping up to be Fisher's year but the future looks promising at least.  Walsh is a super talented freshman QB but this is the 2nd game in 3 weeks Fisher has the ball with a couple of minutes to go in the 4th and a chance to take the lead...and Walsh turns it over.  Interception at Ithaca and a fumble at Utica.

Final score:  Utica 34 Fisher 28

The defense still not allowing much of anything in the 2nd half of games, outside of the Bridgewater game.

Buff State - 6 points
Bridgewater - 15 points
TCNJ - 0 points
Ithaca - 0 points
Brockport - 0 points
Utica - 6 points

Annnnnd the talented freshman QB makes a freshman mistake.  Interception on 1st down.  That should seal it for Ithaca.

Ithaca goes 3 and out.  Fisher gets the ball back with a little over a minute to go at the Fisher 48 yard line.  Exciting stuff.

Controversial completion called back on what would have been a 1st down on the Ithaca 18 yard line.  Instead it's 4th and 9 with 2:25 to go on the Ithaca 27.  They don't go for a field goal because our kicker doesn't make insane 50 yarders like Ithaca.  Fail to convert on 4th.

Ithaca takes over with 2:16 left.  Still up 38-35.

Fisher keeping with their wickedly inconsistent theme this year.  Horrible first half, storming back in the second.  38-35 Ithaca with 12 minutes to go in the 4th.

Another thing not in Fisher's favor for this Saturday is their pass defense.  Rush defense has actually been pretty stout so far.  But in the two games i've seen so far the corners are getting exposed.  Specifically in man coverage.  Multiple times where the receivers have gotten separation on deep routes and the only reason it didn't connect for long TD's is because the quarterback just flat out missed on the throw.

The safeties actually provide decent help over the top when they are actually there (I think Rodriguez already has 5 interceptions on the season).  But if it's one on one then I think Ithaca has this sort of ok quarterback who will make them pay dearly.

I think it's Cortland.

I know Brockport threw for 191 yards and 3 TDs. But they still went just 6-for-12 passing, with a pick and a sack on 13 dropbacks (not counting scrambles). That is not a team that has necessarily solved its passing issues.

It looks like they were just physically able to run over BSU, with 7 YPC on 53 attempts. Which is what they should do against an opponent like that. But Cortland isn't Buff State.

And this isn't me overreacting to Cortland beating two lousy teams to open the year. Lest we forget, Port needed a last-second interception to beat Cortland at home last year.

If B Port has really given up on their passing QB (or maybe he is still injured?), then I agree they may no longer be the favorites.  E8 champ is then up for grabs: SJF is undefeated, Utica is surprising teams, Cortland has yet to be tested.  IF BPort can put together any passing game, then I would still make them the favorite, their D is very very good.

We're going to learn a lot about Fisher this weekend when they play IC

They're maddeningly inconsistent.  At times they look great, but the majority of the time they do not.  Look at TCNJ.  Had a 16-5 lead on Fisher through nearly 3 quarters and were mostly in control until Fisher just clicked and dropped 35 unanswered in a little over a quarter.  Me thinks if they played the way they did the first 3 quarters against TCNJ with Ithaca they are going to dig a massive hole they can't recover from.  Would be sick if they could put together a full and consistent game.  They do have a pretty decent ceiling.

It's game day. Good luck to the NJAC schools today.

The College of New Jersey @ St. John Fisher
Rowan @ Hobart
Wesley @ Endicott
Christopher Newport @ Brevard
At Halftime
The College of New Jersey @ St. John Fisher ... TCNJ leads 16-5 (Wow!)
Rowan @ Hobart ... Rowan leads 10-3 at halftime. Profs should be up 10-0, but a late penalty allows Hobart to sneak in a FG before halftime.
Wesley @ Endicott ... Endicott leads 17-0 at halftime

Doesn't look like it worked out for any of those teams that were leading.

Wesley 20 - Endicott 17
Fisher 40 - TCNJ 16
Hobart 20 - Rowan 17

Another win for Fisher this weekend, but another game that makes you scratch your head. Fisher really struggled with TCNJ for 2.5 quarters, and were down 16-5 well into the 3rd, when they rip off 5 straight touchdowns and win 40-16. Offensively Fisher could not get anything going, and the announcer was talking about putting in the back up QB (who was warming up on the sidelines) before they go on a huge tear in the late 3rd/4th. Defensively Fisher had 2 more picks (I believe that is 9 in 3 games to lead D3).

It's a weird team this year for Fisher. Next week is Ithaca with both teams, assuming IC finishes off AU, at 3-0. Like old times.

Agreed on that.  Definitely some talent but they just struggle to put it together consistently.  Which will burn you against the top teams.

Fisher was down 16-5 with I believe a little under a minute to go in the 3rd quarter...ended up winning the game 40-16.  Touchdown right before the end of the 3rd and then 4 touchdowns in the 4th quarter.  After a pretty excruciating first half that was nice to see.  Good defensive adjustments and the offense came alive towards the end.

Let's hope the momentum continues next week as they travel to take on Ithaca.

Jonny gets it.  Never inferred it was a Michigan/Ohio State thing and it's an obvious statement that even in the height of the period I was referring to that Cortland would still be Ithaca's main squeeze.  But PA, you're wrong that it was manufactured.  In my opinion.  For a while there it was great fun and there were a lot of meaningful games.

Hell even talking about it has generated more buzz on this page than there has been in a hot minute.  Which speaks to what I was driving at in the beginning of all of this.  Making a joke that saying the boards are dead now that Ithaca left the conference and all the banter that used to take place with them while they were here.
