I was looking at the Potsdam Bears upcoming schedule and had to do a double take on the game next Tuesday 11/19/19. It says that my bears are playing Albany. It's been a long time since this two rivals have played. I'm sure it will not be like the Doc and Jerry battles but it would be fun if the Bears knock off a Division I program

Was doing some research about the Championship games in Salem VA. Came across an all star game they play prior to the finals. I have lost touch with D3 hoops since I moved south to Myrtle Beach, No D 3 Hoops in SC because they have no D 3 schools. Plus my Potsdam Bears really have had a difficult run as of late. Back in the day, I would be going to see the the Bears play for another title. I noticed the rosters which has a player from Clarkson, Derek Hart who is from Poughkeepsie NY. Did some research and come to find out he played high school ball at FDR in Hyde Park NY. I spend 20 plus years of my life in Hyde Park, both kids graduated from there. Looks like no only will I go to see the finals but also the all star game.

Will the Bears Men's Basketball Team ever be Relevant again? Well at least the Men's hockey team is 6-0 heading into a show down with the Plattsburgh Cardinals

Went to the ECAC Wikipedia page and they haven't had an ECAC upstate tournament since 2012. Its very sad how the Division III world has changed over the years. Only one SUNYAC team in the NCAA, no ECAC for teams that missed the cut and Potsdam State 2-22. I believe its the beginning of the end. So So sad. As the great Charlton Heston said "You blew it up! Ah, damn you. damn you all to ****!"

And the Bears finished at 2-22. So so sad that our storied program would ever finish this low. I can only hope and pray that one day we will once again reach the pinnacle. As for the SUNYAC, just one bid will be the norm with only 19 at large bids unless there are two SUNYAC programs that can run the field on the rest of the conference. As I have stated before the SUNYAC plays too many games against itself which hurts its chances come post season. Then there is always the ECAC tournament for those teams in the east that do not make it to the dance. Good Luck to Oswego in the Dance and Plattsburgh in the ECAC

I live down the road from Marist and went to SUNY Potsdam graduated in 86 saw the undefeated national champions, true D3 fan. I like this move for Marist because they hire a coach who has built a winning formula but will not be looking for the next big gig. This is the same thing that Marist did on the women's side. They hired the local head girls head coach Brian Giorgis from Our Lady of Lordes high school who had won multiple state titles, comes to Marist wins the conference every year and takes his team to the dance year in and year out. Best finish was a sweet sixteen in 07. I'm sure this is the same formula that will bring the same kind of success to the men's side in the not to distant future.

Interesting 2 SUNYAC Schools lose and 2 SUNY Schools who play outside of the SUNYAC win leaving Plattsburgh as our only hope. It looks like the same questions will once again come around. The SUNYAC can't get it done come tournament time. Why should the SUNYAC have multiple teams in the tournament. You can say what you want about Morrisville and their conference. At the end of the day they beat our best team on their court, Purchase is an Arts school that blew away an Empire 8 school. On yea both of these schools beat Brockport this year. By the way Purchase plays is a gym built with NBA dollars. The Knicks used it for years for their practices. Maybe the folks at D3 are correct the east just isn't that strong. I do have an issue with the brackets. Why are the number 13 and 15 ranked teams playing each other in the second round Purchase vs. Albert Magnus. This should be a great game running and gunning with lots of scoring. I have a feeling that the winner of the game will make a huge run into the tournament. Once again good luck to Plattsburgh you are our only hope.

No Bears on any of the all conference teams. I guess 5 win season are the norm for the once mighty. I thought about a decade ago when we returned to NCAA that great things would return to Maxcy Hall, Oh how wrong I was. We have won 32% of our games since the last run in the NCAA tournament. With no season over 500 in any of those years. We can't even find a player good enough to make an all conference team. So So sad for the once mighty. May our ship one day sail again until then I wish the rest of the SUNYAC much luck.

Its great to see 3 SUNYAC schools make the tournament with 2 hosting. Just goes to show that at the end of the day the people in charge got it right. Or maybe it was the posts on this boards that got us the credit which was do. Now its time to play the games and show the world that we know how to play NCAA D3 basketball. Also, that we know how to host the games with our top notch facilities in the great state of New York. On a side note would really like to see the SUNYAC recruit SUNY Purchase into our conference. If they are as good as advertised(they are also hosting the first round) it can only help the SOS which seems to be an important part of the selection process. Anyways I will only be cheering for SUNY schools.

Brockport finally gets some love. Great job finally getting into the top 25. I have learned something from these post. The performance of a school is based on the performance of a conference in past tournaments not on the merits of the team in a new year. Last time I checked each individual is only given 4 years to play unless a situation arises that is unique to the individual so then why are we judging on past performances. I was told not to live in the 80's when Potsdam was sent on the road during their last run to the sweet 16. Why should Brockport be punished because of what other school teams in the conference have done in the past. I guess we should just play the games and see what happens. Brockport bring it home and prove the naysayers wrong.

The Bears played their Blank off yesterday down by 10 most of the second half. Went on a run only to fall short on a couple of shots that rolled around the rim. Maybe they aren't at the top but they still came to play and never gave up. Almost 1981' heroics but the ball rimmed out. Keep your heads high. Go Bears

For years the SUNYAC was split in two divisions until the SUNY centers went D 1. We added SUNYIT and Morrisville. they left. This left us with the core 10 colleges. The powers to be decided on a schedule of home and away 18 games conference schedule. This was the first time for this in the long history of this great conference. Having so many conference games cuts in to the ability to schedule non conference out of market games. Either we stay the course and get no respect or we make changes. PS finally get to see my Bears Saturday against New Paltz hoping for some great things but I may just be dreaming. Until my last breathe I will never give up on my Bears.
I agree with Bear if Brockport beat Purchase, Brockport is a top 25 team. Purchase is undefeated because they also play in a conference that plays 18 conference games with some extremely weak schools they also get no respect and are only ranked 17 with many schools ranked ahead of them with multiple loses . I believe if the ball would have rolled in different directions and Brockport beats Purchase, this would as have been Brockport's fate. Go figure. Maybe its a popularity contest.

I see that the SUNYAC has a new commissioner. One of the first tasks is to decide if he wants the conference to be a power conference in men's basketball. The way the conference is currently set up, that will never happen because the schools play each other 18 out of 25 games. No respect from those outside because in the end the schools at the top are even with anyone beating the other on any given evening. Plus long bus rides from one end of the state of New York to the other. Back when there were only 32 teams making the NCAA tournament the SUNYAC had at least 2 and sometimes 3 schools making the tournament because they has two divisions with a playoff between the top 2 schools in each division. The east only played the west once. It opened up non conference game and respect. With the expanded tournament we should have at a minimum 4 schools making the dance each year. Will never happen as long as we only play each other. We need to expose how talented the state of New York is when it come to D3 basketball. Also, we need to build the conference by added other SUNY schools that are not currently part of our conference. We have a SUNY school ranked 17 in the country playing in the Skyline Conference . What would the strength of schedule be if a team ranked in the top 25 played there games with us?

Hey look there is a SUNY College in the D 3 top 25 and they beat one of the top SUNYAC schools. Interesting to see how this will pan out. If I were in charge of this conference I would be looking to add Purchase. Year in and year out they at the top of their conference. As the game against Brockport shows they can play with the other SUNY colleges, unlike my beloved Bears.
Looks like another long winter in the north country. Well at least there is Canton on the schedule so that we don't go 0 for the season. If Potsdam could figure out how to change the game to a 30 minute game our record would be greatly improved. Then they play the last 10 minutes like they are on their last breath. I believe when I was a younger lad it was called conditioning.

Bear, I agree with your assessment of Division III liberal Arts schools. Example Ithaca's roster, not one of their players is from the State of New York. Its like a Division I roster. All out of state players. Go figure! At least their assistant coach is a Potsdam Alumni. I hope both SUNYAC schools and Morrisville make a deep run at the title in Atlanta.
