I apologize for my tardiness on responses (again)... things get crazy right before the holidays!
Greenville's game @STLCOP was cancelled because the ref's didn't show up, so it turned into a scrimmage.  GC had already gone over their limit of scrimmages, so they essentially wasted a game.  GC looked very up and down against Hendrix on Friday night, as Hopefan mentioned.  Giving up 15 for 34 on 3's will probably be addressed in this week's practices [close outs].  They then came back to win on Saturday night against Rhodes and looked a little better, although the 1st half was pretty sloppy again.  Scoring 50 in the 2nd half helped as the offense finally started clicking.
Humidity in the gym caused the floor to warp, unfortunately, so we'll see if they can get part of it fixed by this next week's games.  GC hosts Blackburn on Wed.  then another tournament at home (vs. Mid-Continent, then Lindenwood/William Woods, none of which I know anything about  :-\  ).
Hope, I appreciate the comments about watching a game at Greenville.  I know coach Barber takes pride in putting together a solid basketball environment, and making sure it's not just about the outcome of the game.  Sorry if the pep band had your ears ringing afterward!!  This is our first year with them in the gym so I'm hoping they'll get used to how loud they need to play...  And Hope, were you on the visitor's side behind the scorer's table with your laptop out?  It just seemed like that would've been where you were situated...

Hey guys,
Sorry I've been AWOL for the past 7 months!  I try to read every now and then to stay up-to-date...
As far as the season goes, I don't know too much about any school other than Greenville, so I'll see what I can contribute...
GC lost seniors LaPhonso Ellis, Stephen Groves, and John Fischer.  Ellis will be the biggest hole to replace, but the other 2 will be missed as well.  GC returns 3 starters: Obi Agomo, KJ Hilliard, and Rashod Seaton (although Hilliard is coming off of surgery for his knee right now).  Key returners include: Andy Traeger, Jonas McBride, Rutger Neece, with 5 others who played limited minutes last year.  GC brought in a number of freshman and transfers who expect to make an impact right away.  A few that word has got out about that will get some PT are: Travis Garrison, Markeith Brown, and Dondrale Campbell.  GC has a decent amount of size this year, with a lot of players around 6'3" with the exception of a couple guards.  I think they will surprise a few people this year, as last year they were in almost every game (except @WC and @EC).
GC also added a freshman team this year, so the total number of guys in the program was about 45 at the start of the year... they dropped to the 30's but I thought is was kind of strange that they added the team since the rest of the conference has not decided to follow suit...
We open with STL College of Pharmacy tonight  ;D  but we host a tournament this weekend with Rhodes, Hendrix, and Westminster coming to town.  Should be a solid group of competition and I will keep y'all updated as I make  an appearance at some or all of the games!

Hope, as always, I thoroughly appreciate your in-depth posts.  Being from Greenville, the only school I can comment on is of course, my own, since I don't know nearly as much as the other schools...

One minor/major correction... although Seaton and Traeger are listed on the rosters as Seniors, they were in fact Juniors (I think they might've been seniors credit-wise or something, but they are only Juniors as far as eligibility goes).  So that will bring back nearly an entire starting lineup with: Hilliard, Agomo, Traeger, Seaton, and possibly McBride as the 5th.

Just a little note there.

Thanks again for your write-ups.

GC 91
EC 88

Sorry it took me so long, the game went a lot longer than expected...
EC went up big early, 28-14 and the Panthers clawed their way back into it, being up by a couple at the half.  From there, GC went up about 6 and it stayed around 6 for the rest of the game until the closing minutes.  With a TON of fouls being called, Kindred and Bell fouled out late (EC was only down 2 when Bell fouled out).  GC made their FT's and EC kept evening it up with a layup at the other end.  With a chance to put it away, GC missed 1 of 2, leaving EC in it, Leppard (I think?) had a good decent look at a last chance 3 but missed short.
Unfortunately for GC, WU won, but congrats to GC for finishing strong, and I wish Webster, Eureka, Mac, and Westmin the best of luck the rest of the season, and hopefully the SLIAC can represent well at the D3 level!

GC will you be making it to Fulton if the Panthers do in fact pull off the improbable?

Blue, 7:30am class on Friday does not make it an ideal situation, but if GC does make it, I am planning on going out to cheer them on! (You only live once, right?)

However, I do agree with what you said in your previous post... I just have a bad feeling that Webster is going to put it together tonight to seal up the last spot...

Hope, sorry to hear about your situation.  It's unfortunate that someone would stoop that low...
I do appreciate the time you put into this board though.  I had been reading for the last month or so and really enjoy your insight, so thank you!

What's going to happen tonight?
Any chance the Panthers can pull off the improbable??

Hopefan, I presume you will be gracing us with an update after the Webster game?  I will try my best to get an update out as soon as the GC vs. EC game is over as well...

GC 80
Mac 70

Score was 40-39 at halftime and stayed that close pretty much the whole game.  GC's outside shooting wasn't there tonight, and really pushed the pace on the bigger Highlanders.  McClellan had about 20 for Mac, scoring some big buckets when GC started to pull away in the 2nd half.  Randle and Robertson were banging on the boards down low, but Sichting had a relatively quiet night.  Ellis and Agomo dominated the scoring/boards for GC; Agomo had a ridiculous low post dunk over I think Slagle in the 1st half.  Kind of set off the Panthers for the rest of the game.  Ultimately I think the fast-pace wore away at the Highlanders, who were forced to put in their shooters with under 2 minutes to go being down by 6.
Of course, a huge win for GC.  But they still need some help from Fontbonne on Tuesday provided the Panthers can take care of business against red hot Eureka...

Sorry, I didn't realize that Spalding still played a role even though they aren't eligible for the tournament!!

Unfortunately I think if GC loses one of the last 2 they're pretty much out, unless for some reason WU loses both.  It seems as if Eureka and Webster have those last 2 slots, and I also anticipate EC losing to WC but still wrapping up the #3 spot.

Hopefan, I actually just joined recently after going most of the whole season reading as a guest...
But yeah, I agree that GC doesn't have the luxury of scoreboard watching, as they have 2 VERY tough tasks ahead of them yet...
Sorry about the tough one for Fontbonne  :-\

ec_fan, sounds like Eureka has a couple challenges these next few days... in the event that Eureka loses both, GC wins both, and WU splits, leaving all three at 9-7, who would have the tiebreakers?

I think WC will squeeze by Eureka in an extremely tight one.
FU should win @ Prin, although at this point it's almost irrelevant...
GC @ Mac... I'm not even sure about this one.  GC handled Mac at home last time, being up by almost 25 at one point.  Of course I'd like to say GC but I have a feeling Mac will find a way to lock up that 2 spot.
Spalding should win @ BC, but I think will struggle the next night @ WU.  Again, of course I'll be cheering for SU against Webster, but Webster's pretty solid at their place.

What you guys think?

(BC score might be off by a few)

One of the most ridiculously called games I've ever seen.  West was already sitting out for disciplinary reasons, and than Sykes gets ejected within the first 8 minutes for "throwing an elbow." Although to me it looked more like him just reacting to the call rather than a player.  BC finishes the half with 13 fouls, but despite the slugfest the score was tied 44-44.  GC finally gets things moving to start the second half and take a 13 point lead with like 12 minutes to go.  BC cuts it to 4 but that's the closest they got in the 2nd half.  Stochl played an amazing game, doing it all, especially leading his team back from the setbacks that they encountered.  Unfortunately, he gets T-ed up for a little struggle for the ball with Agomo, and then later gets the 2nd one sending him out as well.  Dakota Tucker tried to keep them in the game, but I feel like with the loss of Sykes and West and Stochl, GC finally put the stranglehold on.
2 big games yet, @ MacMurray on Saturday, then EUREKA to finish on Tuesday.  GC needs a little help from either Spalding or Fontbonne to take down Webster if the Panthers want to make the postseason...
