hmmmm, so Milligan was a first team all american as voted on by the NABC, but only a 2nd team all region player as voted on by d3hoops.com?  nope no F&M bias at all by the buffoons that run this site!

Bu Bu But last week we were told that we should be happy seeing games on the internet!  Now that option isnt good enough?  gotcha

its really a moot discussion until the attendance figures are in the door tonight

sounds like a pathetic money grab to me, going after the local fans who would like to stay for both games.

You just don't get it Larry.  The reason the Marlins played better down the stretch was because they were at home, in their familiar surroundings, in front of their fans.  They know every inch of that floor, every rim and how the ball bounces on it.  Would F&M have been more comfortable playing at home?? You can bet on it.  Has F&M won more games at home or on the road?  The structure of a gym is not what makes home court important.  It is how it makes the players feel and perform.  It's like sleeping in a hotel vs. sleeping in your own bed.  End of story.

Interesting points fish, my retort is this: Do you think noise plays any factor in a home court setting?  You can look all throughout college basketball and certain gyms produce a better home court advantage than others because it feels like a prison (the pit, octagon of doom, or my personal favorite the USD gym a few years back).  Setting is important

I bring this question from the ODAC board where the lamentations of the RMC fans are plainly read.

I ask the opinions of the Hoopsville BrainTrust.

How much home court advantage is there against a team:

that buses less than 3 hours?

that buses more than 3 hours?

that is flown to the site?
I did not hear any opinions on the show(forgive me if I missed it) and had no responses on the ODAC board.

How about 3 points for less than 3 hours, 4 points for more than 3 hours and 7 points for a plane flight?

Honestly, i'm not sure the flight has anything to do with it.  In reality, a 2 hour plane ride is less tightening for an athlete than a 7 hour bus ride.  You talked about it the other day in referencing what really makes up "home court advantage," which for those who didnt see it had to do with the ability of a home crowd to influence referees.

At the end of they day, common sense or not, the NCAA is not going to break the 500 mile rule unless it has to.  On the flip side, Middlebury is probably receiving the most favorable draw of any remaining team.  In order to reach the final four, they have to win three games against no team higher than 13 in the last D3hoops poll.

And as mentioned, Rochester is on spring break which could limit the home court advantage.  I'm not saying the NCAA made things right, and its a small consolation for those who want to see the game, but the draw is definitely winnable (as opposed to what Whitworth, williams and UWSP are facing).

i agree rw.  F&M left a lot of points on the floor, from the FTs to a few twos where the shooter's foot was on the line.

good analysis, when i get karma back you are getting a point!

Through two rounds:

Pool C teams are 14-14 which includes 4 matchups of Pool C teams.

Williams vs. Becker in 2nd round
WPI vs. Amherst in 2nd round
UWRF vs. IWU in 1st round
Mary Hardin-Baylor vs. Texas-Dallas in 1st round

8 of 18 were one and done

4 are 2-0 and are in the Sweet 16-VWU, Williams, Amherst and Mary Hardin-Baylor

so 8/18 Pool C were one and done, if pool B won Round 1, that means 18/42 Pool C were one and done.  Basically a wash, 44% vs 43%.  Any thoughts on if that validates the committees Pool C selections?

There is no telling what would have happened had VWC been facing that 9 point deficit in the 2nd half AT F&M. The backing of the home crowd played a part in that game.. and contrary to the beliefs of the F&M posters who had something to say about the VWC student section being "crappy" and "lousy" and that they showed no support, the Batten was rocking, and they sure did shut you guys up.

DeWayne, that was only one F&M poster, and one whose opinion should be taken with a grain of salt. There was a great atmosphere at VWC last night and a lot of energy coming from the student section. Good luck at Williams.

The comment was made on a centennial board, and from what i can tell of that gym, its just a different atmosphere.  The gym structure of VaWes isnt conducive to a phenomenal advantage (case in point, i'd give a lot more validity to the student section causing helping fandm miss free throws if the students were behind the basket as opposed to just a dancing Marlin).  VaWes was victorious mainly because they played betterdown the stretch.

earlier today i mentioned how Espn radio's sporting life did a story on a Middlebury fan that attends a lot of games.  Very inspirational tale, but there is no link for it on the espn website.  However, according to the report, a tv version of the story will air on an upcoming E:60 when the news magaizine returns.  If i hear exactly when it will air, i will post.

Well as I am driving back from Va wesleyan I must simply write that this loss will take a few days to get over.  The refs in this game are ten times worse than those in the centennial conference.  The one guy looked almost 90.  Anyway more later.  Rough night indeed.  Congrats to f and m and the seniors.

Goodjob making the trip Doc. thats the other hard part of the trip, the drive home after a loss (its the main reason i didnt attend the jets/pats playoff game this year).  From what i gathered on tv, the refs were equally egregious with the fouls. But my biggest issue was with multiple uncalled travellings in the first half.

At least on the way back I did not get a ticket through slower lower Delaware.  What an awful state!  Anyway, the best was after the game when Coach came int our reception and said that he was running late because he had to fill out a comment card on the refs.  It is not fair when refs are too involved in the outcome of games- in Division 3 it is bad!

THE SIMPSONS ARE GOING TO DELAWARE!  I want to visit wilmington!!!!
