Congrats to the New Paltz Hawks.  Chismar, Pinnola and Grann (all sophmores) give them solid front line pitching.  Defense has been solid all year.  Typically, Cortland and Brockport elevate their game at tournament time.  Will New Paltz be able to match their intensity and focus?

How many teams make the Mid-Atlantic regional.  And of those, how many slots are taken by AQ qualifying conferences.  Stated differently, how many at large bids are there for the Mid-Atlantic region, and given its size would a worthy school possibly be sent to another region?

I like the 3 game series.  Many other conferences use this format, and it will allow every team to use its top 3 starters.

I saw Cortland play, and they have to be the favorites to win the conference.  Although I would like to see New Paltz make the playoffs with that young team, the stats suggest otherwise.  They seem to have enough offense, and 4 starting pitchers who can keep them in the game.  Unfortunately, they are last or next to last in the league in fielding percentage.  According to some who have watched them play, defense was their strength in the win over Brockport (3-2), and  Chismar was just lights out versus Oswego (2-1).  Conversely defense was their undoing in game two versus Plattsburg, and the DH versus Cortland when they had something like 10 errors in two games.

NP is a young team.  If they rise to the occassion defensively, anything can happen.  The next couple of weekends will be exciting with so many meaningful games on tap.  I do, however, believe in the end it will be Cortland, Plattsburg, Oneonta, and Brockport playing for the league title.

New Paltz split a double header with Salisbury today winning game one 6-3, and losing game two 4-1.  I'm not suggesting they are one of the top 4 conference teams, but maybe, just maybe, they are not horrible either.  In any event, how about a well done for one of the SUNYAC teams.
