After the first three games I'm a little sensitive about Bluenote's "barn burner" quote. It reminds me of a Frosty Westering quote back when Don Rutschman was our QB and we played a see-saw scoring game against PLU in Tacoma. Trailing late in the game, a winning drive on the arm of Donnie Rutschman brought us a last-second victory, Frosty had this memorable after-game quote. "

"These close games with Linfield are always barnburners. Unfortunately, today it was our barn that got burned."

I don't want to be on the dark-side of a barn-burner this weekend.

Not sure Old Cat Prof.... but I'm pretty sure it was Donnie Rutchman that was catching the passes down the sideline.... there was another guy that was qb.... not sure of his name? Maybe someone can help me out?
Rod Thompson or Marco Lind?  I'm basing this on the years Don Rutchman was at Linfield and which QBs show up in the record book those years....

Bluenote and MonroviaCat could be correct. The old memory bank does let me down from time to time. The second possibility that "MC" mentions for our QB that year was named Marco Min (probably still is  ;D).

Should be a good game against Willamette.... here's some stats:

Total offense per game - Linfield 327 Willamette 292
Passing per game - Linfield 265 Willamette 236
Rushing per game - Linfield 62 Willamette 56
Sacks allowed - Linfield 11 Willamette 7
Record - Linfield 1-2 Willamette 1-2

..... should be a barn burner!

Cat's 3rd down pass route was run very poorly,

OK, since my team opened the season with a loss I will try to be more straight forward with my comments.
The cryptic sense of humor can go the way of Augustana.
I never took football theory but I will endeavour to keep my posts on that plane, no matter how boring
I will try to predict winners and losers even though my instincts say I shouldn't.
I shall not tease.

WARNING...WARNING...WARNING
The Russians have hacked into D O.C.'s account. I've know Dens for 48 years and this was certainly no post from him. From now on be VERY, VERY careful regarding any comments, suggestions or information posted by this imposter trying to make us think that Dens has stopped larding his posts with nearly impenetrable commentary. I don't believe that only one Wildcat loss could have this effect on him. On the other hand it may be lingering effects of anesthesia at work. So...be very, very careful.

dang--seems like Wyatt has been underthrowing the deep ball all day

I agree. Also seems to be throwing looping passes rather than sharp passes.

I'm beginning to wonder if Wilder actually has hands on the end of each arm...or at least one?

Had dinner with Ad Rutschman, son Randy and grandson Adley in Corvallis last year after a baseball game. Also attending were Ed Langsdorf, his youthful bride and my still (in spirit) youthful wife Connie.

Adley was then a freshman and had already established himself as the Oregon State catcher. Sat between Adley and Randy. What a wonderful evening and what a great young man is Adley. Nice personality, able to carry on a meaningful conversation, knowledgeable and already able to tell "Rutschman-type" stories. He had a good one about tackling Stanford's Christian McCaffery after kicking off to him...Adley was the kick-off guy as a freshman. Being the last line of defense with the last chance to tackle McCaffrey and prevent the touchdown, Adley did, and when McCaffrey got up and looked around in disbelief he said to Adley "I got tackled by the KICKER?

Adley told the story in the typical Rutschman self-effacing manner...not bragging. We all laughed big-time at the punch line. Ad, sitting at the other end of the table just beamed with pride...Randy also. Great evening, great people and great stories.

Any idea when we'll have information about the 2018 recruits?

Not doing it this year.   8-)

I know its's a lot of work but am really disappointed that the "Cat Recruits Info and Tapes" won't be available this year. Really look forward to that every Spring. Am not complaining...just letting you know how much I've appreciated this info over the years. Always gets me excited about the coming campaign.

Just lurking, thank you.

But I appreciate the "MERRY CHRISTMAS" and pass it along to other lurkers. (I was on a car lot the other day. A salesman approached me...to which I replied with the first sentence of this post.)

Not about football, but interesting.

UCLA Shoplifters get a one-game suspension from Coach Alford.
Hmmm, not at all similar to Coach Ted Wilson's approach to that type of problem.

NCAA website (web address below) reports the DIV 3 allocation is $26.2 million. That's a lot of dough.

Strange, though, that the published NCAA numbers do not reconcile. For example, the same website reports that total NCAA revenue exceeds $921 million. If the allocation to D3 were 3.18%, the D3 amount would be approximately $29.3 million.

It's interesting to note that the current runner-up in the active "most consecutive winning seasons" derby (Florida State) is 2 and 4 after the 7th week of their season. (One game was cancelled...likely an automatic win...due to this year's hurricane trifecta.) With only 5 remaining games...against Boston College (4-4), Syracuse (4-4), Clemson (6-1), Delaware State (1-4), and Florida (3-3)...this could be the year that Florida State yields its #2 ranking in the active winning streaks contest to Mount Union.

Let's keep it going, Wildcats!

Ran across an interesting piece online today at HeroSports.com titled The Best College Football Teams by State, Regardless of Division (2017).

Anyone interested in knowing which NCAA team in Oregon was selected?

And thank-you for offering to take a pay cut in the 70s OCP.

(are you NW bound yet?)

'CATS!

It wasn't so much an "offer" to take a pay cut. The college simply announced that all personnel would take a 5% pay cut for academic year 1974-75. There wasn't much significant complaining. We all knew the dire financial straits of the college we loved. At the same time our family lived in a home owned by the college and the college raised my rent by 10%. Now that was something I complained about.

Still, that has not stopped me from being a motivated Wildcat fan for the many decades since. Thankfully, the series of excellent college presidents since those days has put Linfield on a much firmer financial foundation. GO CATS!!
