I take considerable exception to your comments JMM and I'm tempted to type out a lengthy post explaining why you're full of crap.  But I'm not going to and you're certainly entitled to your opinion regardless of how absurd the conclusions you draw are.  What I will say is that the behavior of the WW player ejected was inappropriate and unacceptable regardless of how frustrated she was from having been tackled by that classy Stevens Point defender on a fast break without getting a call.  Coach Carollo encouraging thug behavior is ridiculous and shows how little you know about her.

Point beat us because they are more disciplined.  Because of that our press doesn't impact them the way it impacts other teams, particularly Eau Claire who had 76 turnovers in the three games we played.  They have size that is difficult for us to match up with.  They hit several clutch shots just as the shot clock was expiring and when we double teamed the ball they always seemed to find the open player for an uncontested shot.  Defensively they took away our outside game and when we got the ball inside their size make it difficult.  Congrats to them.  They outplayed us and showed why they were regular season and tournament co-champions and champions.

In closing I just want to say that the next time you're at WalMart do yourself a favor and buy a clue.

JMM was right.  We all know Burg is an emotional player.  I am naming her name because it was obviously her we are talking about as she got ejected.  It is in the box score.  From my angle at the game she did not get tackled.  I believe the play Warhawk is reffering to is when a Point player and her were chasing down a loose ball.  The Point player stopped and Burg dove for it.  From my angle I didn't see a push.  I could be wrong.  Regardless the Point player didn't end up on the ground, so it wasn't a tackle.

Later in the game, a Point player did get tackled.  It wasn't Burg though who tackled her.  The replays are on TV so it will show exactly what happened.

After seeing WW live and on TV a couple years ago, they have always played with an edge.  They press teams almost the entire game who cannot handle it while WW is up by 30+.  I never cared for the WW's coach behavior during the game.  She tirelessly defends her players, which can be a very good thing.  But after seeing Burg not really grow up in terms of getting T's, (also got one in NCAA tournament a few years back that changed game) I am not sure if she is having the one on one talks that need to happen.

College athletics is not just about winning games, but also having these young ladies mature off the court and get them ready for life as an adult.  I hope she sees the bigger picture.  Just my two cents here.

That said, I think the WIAC has four teams that should make the NCAAs, but I only see SP, WW, and RF getting in.

Thanks for the updated standings, but a few things I think you missed.

UWP is actually the 6 seed based on tiebreakers. They swept the season series against Superior. Might seem minor, but since the 6 seed makes the conference tournament and the 7 is done for the year, it is pretty major.

And because of byes this week, Superior is off Wednesday and Platteville is off Saturday. Platteviile has played EC very tough the last couple years. So if Plattevile wins Wednesday they are in the conference tournament.

Good race at the top, I expect SP to take care of Stout. There is no way they overlook a Stout team on the road that is playing very good ball lately, sans today.

Another typical season in the WIAC!

I picked them last for one reason.  They almost always underachieve.  They have every year except last year, and some would argue a first round NCAA loss with five senior starters is still underachieving.  Last year was their year to make some serious noise, and it was barely a whimper.

So when this year should be considered a down year from last year, I thought they would underachieve even more and finish last.

I will now pick them to finish higher.  Perhaps 7th.  Good win for the Eagles.  But overall, I'm still not buying.

Looks like a great start to the season so far for many teams in the conference.  If I had to do some power rankings, I would sort them like this:

SP (Very Impressive so far)
RF (Very Talented in the backcourt)
WW (Tough loss to Milikin but big win over IWU)
Osh (Not buying YET, but have looked good)
EC (Close losses, good win at Norberts)
Sup (Better every year)
Platt (Better defensive team than credit for)
Stout (Even though low ranking, could beat anyone on a given night)
LX (I will not be buying at all this season)

Of course I am open to debate to see some other lists.  After the top 3, it could really go anywhere.

I believe that all three saw increased minutes because Point had 4-5 seniors on the 2005 National Title team.  Just a reason why we saw three freshmen average double digit minutes.

And those guys could really ball :).

To hold par, with the losses this spring, Point could be in for freshman getting those minutes again in 2012.

I heard today that both Tillemas will be playing for UWSP next year.  Still will be a lot of turn around on the roster from the last couple seasons.  Might see some young guys get some decent minutes next year, which I know Semling tries to avoid.  During his time there I can only remember J. Harris getting significant time as a freshman.

Rortvedt, Beamish and El-Amin in '05-06
Moses in '06-07, Hurd in '07-08

All averaged over 10 minutes a game their freshmen year

Thanks for the explanation.  Sounds clear.  If I could give karma boosts I would.

PS,

You make some very good points.

I don't like to comment negatively on people's families.  I have no idea about them or what happens in the house.  I don't really care to.  I see him in public and it looks like he really cares about them.  I will leave it at that.

About the student-athletes turning their back on Stevens Point, I dont really buy that.  Harris is going to get a scholarship.  That is a very hard thing to turn down.  If getting their school paid for now if turning their backs on Stevens Point, I would have turned my back on my colleges in a heartbeat.  Education is not cheap and it is only going to get more expensive.

I am still waiting to see where a player can self-release up a level. I have not seen it on any NCAA website.  This might be because I am not very good with the internet, or you have to be an AD or administration to sign in to get it.  I really have no idea, but one of those reasons might be it, most likely the first one  :D

Talking about what the players are getting into.  Players don't simply go to schools because of winning or attendance figures.  Jake Smith went to Superior.  I am willing to bet Stevens Point had a lot of interest in him.  He went to Superior for different reasons.  Everyone has their own reasons to go somewhere.  He had a great career there.  And Superior improved by leaps and bounds with him there.  Maybe these guys are going to St. Leo to change the culture down there.

Regardless, I still wish everyone the best.  Semling is a great coach, and he will keep Point where it belongs.

That waiver was for DIII to DIII.  I could be wrong, but if a student-athlete can release himself, shouldn't this waiver work for people who want to get out of DIII to go to any level, not just DIII to DIII.  I would think that if they can, there is no need to have this info on the waiver.

The people here who say that Randall isn't a family man is totally wrong.  He would not do something like this without talking to his family before a move and getting their thoughts and opinions on it.

I also wish Randall, Johnson, and Harris the best.  Randall and Harris helped bring a National Title to Stevens Point.  Don't turn your backs on them now as they go on to hopefully better things.

Stevens Point will be fine.  After they won their second title in 2005 everyone thought the cupboard was bare.  Two years later they won conference and were hosting a NCAA sectional.  Semling will make the best of what he has.  I hear he has a really good class coming in and SP always plugs in student-athletes and gets results.

And Randall cannot just pick up the phone and call Harris or Johnson without the players getting a release from the University once he got to St. Leo's.  A release the head coach must agree to.  Semling showed his class here and allowed it to happen for the players to get that scholarship.

As stated before, these two were most likely not staying at Stevens Point anyway.  Why not go somewhere they can be comfortable and hopefully be successful?

Congrats to the IWU team.  Great year.  Nothing to hang your head about even though it didn't finish quite like you wanted.

Wydown Blvd.,

I watched it online and it was great.  Two great teams.  Shame one had to lose.  I have to say this is a pretty balanced Final Four.  Some years there is one dominate team or a team who simply doesn't deserve to be there.  I don't see that with this group.

And the best thing is the rankings going into the Final Four doesn't represent the top four teams!  Shows how balanced NCAA women's basketball has been this year.  Much like the Mens DI championship.

Well that makes sense then.  The guys doing the color and play by play didn't say that.  But nonetheless, that stuff shouldn't be happening in a Final Four game.

Best of luck to IWU on the third place game today.  Two of the scorers in the country going head to head albeit at different positions.

I think the Wash U coach should be National Coach of the Year.  The lost to Hope in the regular season, beat them in the tournament.  Lost to Chicago twice, then beat them in the Elite 8.  Lost to IWU in the season, then beat them in Final Four.  Couple that with beating the #1 ranked team in the country on their homecourt and wow.  Great adjustments.  Great coach with a championship pedigree.

I just can't see Oshkosh being a top six team with all they are losing.  Their seniors with Boeder and Churchill were tough players.

I agree with EC.  And I think Stout and Superior will be better.

Great effort by both teams tonight.  Wash U gets IWU back again for another early season loss.  Looks like the the Title Game at the "Shirk Invitational" will be between Amherst and Wash U.  Should be a dandy.

Interesting moment at the 46 second mark left in the game.  With IWU down by six, Coach Smith used her last timeout after a Wash U player knocked the ball out of bounds.  IWU had to go full court.  Just seemed like an interesting time to use that last timeout.  Would have been nice to have that one back, but probably didn't matter.  Wash U was the better team in the end.

Hey Just Bill,

You forgot to make some picks!  Tell me what you think about order.  I am just seeing what other people think.  At this point of the season, it could be considered foolish to be picking, but it is something to do.

Look forward to seeing what people think.
