I swear I'd read just a month or two ago that Olean was given the job.

Pics like this just increase my loathing for domes and retractable roofs. If there was ever a sport that was meant to be played in the elements, it was football.
It's nice to see Augsburg getting some attention for something other than getting beat by 30 points.

As of right now my plan is to attend (with my video camera) the Augsburg @ Bethel game on Saturday. If I do I will post first and second half highlights on my YouTube site. I'm excited to see Bethel running back Logan Flannery. Here's a pretty neat article profiling him...

Now that was a low blow!!!

I'm new to the boards this year but I intend to keep posting even though my Auggies are now 3-5. When they start competing with the big boys of the MIAC nobody will be able say I'm coming out of the woodwork or jumping on the bandwagon. Go Auggies!!!!

Yes he was. I was at their playoff game at Anoka his senior year (even have some video of it) when Lakeville South made their run to the State Championship and they were a very fun team to watch. Brumm doesn't have the strongest arm in the world and he doesn't always throw the best ball but he manages to get the job done more times than not. At least against teams not named St. John's, St. Thomas and Bethel.

October 20, 2010, 12:13:17 AMQuote from: MIAC23 on October 19, 2010, 01:44:43 PMAdam Weber may be the worst QB in the Big Ten. Maybe that is stretching it a bit, but he is awful. I credit him for sticking it out with the carousel of offensive coordinators he has had, but still he is brutal. He will make a great pass one play, then the next three passes he will bounce to his receivers. Look at last year against South Dakota State. We scored only 16 points against a lower tier school, when a couple weeks later the University of Montana hung about 70 on them. Enough said.
I'm glad somebody stepped up and said this before I had to. No disrespect to the young man but the quarterback position has to be functional at reading defenses and throwing the football. Not only was Weber's accuracy an issue but he liked to stare down receivers and was routinely late delivering the ball.
Speaking of quarterbacks, Marcus Brumm (Augsburg) is out this week and possibly longer with a shoulder injury. I'm hearing it might be his labrum but I haven't received confirmation yet. In an interesting twist my sources tell me that wide receiver Muneer Al-Hameed, not the backup quaterback, will line up behind the center this weekend at St. Olaf.

Boy this sure is a tough crowd. St. John's loses three games in a season and it's news. Meanwhile Augsburg lost their third game in a row and nobody cares.
Are their any standout high school players out there reading this thread that play defense? If so please contact Coach Haege and tell him you want to be an Auggie because until they get some players that can tackle the running backs and cover the wide receivers they're never going to be much more than an average college football program.
Anyway, I've finished cutting the video from this past Saturdays Augsburg vs St. Thomas game and uploading it to my YouTube site...

Enjoy!

St. Thomas turned a 14-10 halftime lead over Augsburg into a blowout, 54-17.
I'll post links to the video highlights as soon as they are ready.

How do the playoffs work in the MIAC? Top two teams advance or do more advance than that?

Not sure what you are trying to imply here but if you think I'm talking about my son you are incorrect. I was just sharing a few things that I'd heard from a couple of parents I know that had kids going through the recruiting process. My intent wasn't to rip the St. John's coaching staff and if it came across that way I sincerely apologize.

Interesting discussion going on here. sjusection105 makes a very good point about kids today needing to feel wanted. I know of a couple of recruits that were seriously looking at St. Johns but ended up choosing St. Thomas because it "felt" right to them. One parent I chatted with about it said that his son didn't feel like St. Johns really wanted him. Instead there was an arrogance from the staff that he should feel honored that they were even talking to him. I think that speaks to the point about St. Johns relying a lot on their reputation to land recruits instead of doing all they could/should to recruit athletes these days.
It's hard to argue with their approach because year after year they compete for the MIAC championship. They have to be careful though because perception often times becomes reality and it only takes a couple of bad years of recruiting to change that.

WashedUp,
I was at the Augsburg-Carleton game on Saturday as well. The wind was definitely a factor but both quarterbacks played well. Schmid for Carleton was impressive. I'd heard about him but this was my first time actually seeing him. He's a big dude! Even though my Auggies lost the game it was very entertaining. I thought it was going to be a route after Carleton went up 14-0 but Augsburg battled back and made a game of it. That tackle for a loss late in the 4th quarter on the Augsburg running back seemed to be the clincher.
I just finished cutting the video and uploading it to my YouTube site. Here it is if anyone is interested...

I'm planning on attending next weekends game at St. Thomas and if I do I'll get some video and share it here.
