Anyone know what happened to Michael Kvam of Wheaton?   I only caught the end of Saturday's game and during the post-game interview it sounded like he is out indefinitely with Schauer saying he went through the most difficult 48 hours he has ever went through as a head coach??  Sounded very serious.

I don't know any details, but from what I've heard, Kwam is off the team by coach's decision. Sounds like a disciplinary issue.

A couple notables from the Thunder win over Chicago:

1. As said above, Tyler Peters comes up with his second triple-double of the year with 25, 12 boards, and 10 assists, but perhaps the most important number is only for Tyler was only 3 turnovers. This was likely his best game from beginning to end so far this year.

2. After opening up a 16-0 lead, this game was never in question (Chicago got it back to 12 at one point in the second).

3. Joel Smith got the start at the 4 (8 pts, 3 rebs) in place of Michael Berg (4 pts, 2 rebs). Seems like Joel has a quick shot from beyond the arc.

4. Schauer has called this start to the year "the worst coaching job I've done in my career." The bulk of this emphasis is in not pushing Peters hard enough.

Question for you CCIW board regulars. I watched portions of the Chicago/Wheaton game and it was obvious that the Thunder was going to win this game without a lot of trouble. I noticed that Wheaton star Tyler Peters played the entire second half until going to the bench with just over a minute left. Does Coach Schauer typically leave his star in the game when it's been well in hand for pretty much the entire final 20 minutes? Just curious because it struck me as odd.

My view of the large minutes, especially for Peters, is that the Thunder hadn't played in 10 days and wanted to get some game legs back under them. Just my opinion though.

Schauer in general doesn't leave Peters, etc in past the 3 or 4 minute mark in a game like that

Also, I'm sure to everyone's interest, Loras received 8 total votes.

New top 25 out today:

From the damage that has been done to the CCIW, can't complain much about the rankings.

#7 IWU, #14 Wheaton, #22 NCC, and #24 Augie.

Amherst with most of the #1 votes and Stevens Point and Wash U with a few as well.

Let's hope the rest of non-conference goes a bit more our way!

The fact Loras lost to Rockford at home makes their win over the Wheaties even that much more remarkable.
According to the play by play, Tyler Peters turned the ball over with 35 seconds left and Wheaton up by 1.

The turnover by Peters was a charging foul that negated a basket. Like it was said above, the video wasn't good enough to have an opinion on if it was a good call or not.

Congrats to Tyler Peters on winning the first CCIW POTW award this year! A triple-double to start the year is a good sign for the Thunder.

Of these four teams, who has the toughest schedule for the first 11 games?

Wheaton plays #8 Wooster (most likely), #11 Wash U., and #17 Calvin all on the road and most likely plays, what would be #27 if it existed, Wittenberg in the season opening tourney.

Also, I find it very interesting that the Thunder got a first-place vote. For me, the front court has to be seen before making that high of a judgment.

Wheaton has posted it's season preview:

Nothing unexpected. should be a battle among the bench guards for playing time (Miller, both DeMoss's, Kvam, and Fisher). Hopefully it's a healthy season for the Thunder!

Wheaton atoned for its loss to the other Billy Graham school last night with a 73-49 pasting of North Central (MN) in the Twin Cities this afternoon. Tyler Peters had 17, Tad Fisher chipped in 16. Nate Serenius contributed 13, and Caleb DeMoss added 10 for the Sonic Atmospheric Disturbance. Freshman Michael Berg appears to have hit the wall for Wheaton. After a scoreless 11 minutes of action last night in which he went 0-4 from the field, he again went 0-4 today and and didn't score a point in five minutes of play.

I only caught the last 3 minutes of the game, but in Schauer's postgame interview, he referred to how no one is healthy multiple times, referencing Tyler Peters specifically, but I wouldn't be surprised if that meant Berg too.

Also, he said, "We won this game because of Caleb Demoss. We should have had him guard their best player yesterday if we had a coach who knew what he was doing." Always a humble Schauer, but I think that also shows how hurt Peters is (not sure what the injury is) as well as how well the young pg Demoss is progressing in some extra minutes with Teuscher and Kwam absent.

Tyler Peters is the easy early favorite for CCIW MOP. He's simply playing at a different level than everybody else in the league right now.

Although I quite like this sentiment, especially from a Viking, I think that though he can take over games at points, the turnover numbers are way too high right now. 5 tonight plus a silly offensive foul. Hopefully those types of issues can disappear, but it's hard for me to give him consideration with Gamble, etc while he gives away lots of possessions game in and game out.

A player with superior statistics in many categories, can still be considered superior, outstanding etc if one area is somewhat lacking. Specifically, a PG with what might be considered a somewhat elevated TO total can overcome this deficiency by also being a great assist man. To determine a PG's true worth, consider his assist/TO ratio rather than solely looking at his TO total.

Absolutely agree with you. And Tyler right now is at 36/29 on the year. Not great, but not horrendous either.

I will never complain about a 25, 10, and 6 night like he had this evening, but having watched most of the minutes this year, IMHO most of the turnovers are easily avoidable and therefore stand out more. It's the things like mental errors or trying to do too much that I worry about. He's a work in progress and a fun one to follow. I'm excited about getting to cciw time and seeing how he matures through the year, hopefully leading the Thunder to another ncaa birth and I'll definitely be cheering for him to gain some MOP consideration.

Bad news for Wheaton. According to the WETN announcers, Brayden Teuscher is having surgery tomorrow for an injury that took place against Calvin last weekend and will likely be out at least until CCIW play.

Tough timing for him as I'm sure he was looking forward to getting out there against his old teammates on Saturday.

Wheaton hosts Westminster @7:30 this evening. After what sounds like an impressive showing last night at Elmhurst by Westminster, let's hope the Thunder aren't looking forward to Wash U on Saturday already.
