Heard that the Loggers beat CMS 22-12 down in So Cal tonight. Nice win on the road.

D O.C. -

I remember Willamette had a 28 year old d-lineman a few years back, Matlock? was his name, who was a stud.  He had been in the military I think, before going back to school.

Matlock was that old? Damn, I had no clue. I heard that he had been at Wyoming, but I didn't think he was that old.

QuoteUPS: Who is the guy UPS will turn to in order to fill the stat sheet?
Kavin Williams

I agree that Kavin will have a bigger year, but losing Rory I think might improve UPS' offense in a lot of ways. This year's offense should be their most potent in some time. There's still the Paul/Olcott combo at TB. Blum will much bigger role in the offense as a receiver and HB. Kavin should be a better QB in his second year as a starter. And from what I've heard from UPS, watch out for Soph. Morgan Anthony to step in for Lee and bring another weapon to the offense. I also believe there's 4 of the 5 O-Line starters back for the fall.

It's not the offense I'd be worried about at UPS. They lose a lot on defense and are breaking in a new DC. It should be interesting to see how the defense plays this season.

Just checked out the Lindy's DIII preview that was out. Whitworth was the only NWC team ranked at #22. UPS' Isaac Blum was preseason 1st Team AA All-purpose. Willamette's Brandon Bennett was a preseason 2nd Team OL and Whitworth's Jay Tully was a preseason 2nd team DB.

Speaking of poor fields, I drove by UPS last week and saw that they were tearing up Lower Baker field (UPS' practice field). Boy, am I glad they're doing that. They are installing field turf on Lower Baker and making it a multi-purpose field for football practice, lacrosse, and intramurals. Now, UPS will have a better practice field than their playing surface. But it needed to be done. When I was a sophomore, a guy on the team broke his foot just running down the practice field. It was so bad, I'm not surprised that more major injuries occurred.

UPS won the 1976 NCAA DII National Championship in Men's Basketball.

For the first half of the season, a lot players split time with others at their position in NFL Europa. But in the second half of the season, look for the coaches to play the better player most, if not all the game. In the first 5 games last season with Frankfurt, Craig Ochs only played 2 halves in 2 games. But the coaching staff saw that he was the best QB on the roster and he started at QB from there on out, leading them to the championship.

Just saw on the NFL Europe website where Brett is listed No. 1 on the depth chart ahead of Cody Pickett.
Should be fun to watch him battle it out against Regis graduate Travis Lulay on the NFL Network.

Who to root for? A player I played against in college in Bret Elliott, or a guy who played for my hometown college's rival in Travis Lulay? Interesting...

It'd take a lot for PSU to jump up to Montana's level, as far as attendence goes. Montana's been in the top 5 in I-AA the last several years, including tops the last 2-3 years. If PSU could get to Montana St's level, roughly 12-14,000 w/o looking up the numbers, then I'd say the program is moving up in I-AA football. The Big Sky definitely needs the boost that they've been lacking since Idaho and Boise St. left for I-A. No one other than Montana has been to the semis fo the playoffs since '97, with only Montana St. and E. Washington winning playoff games in that period (2006 and 2004, I believe).

PSU only really has Glanville and Mouse going for them. Their facilities, stadium, Athletic Dept. are nothing to sneaze at. And I believe that they don't have an AD at the present time. And won't Davis be 75 by the time the season starts, and Glanville 65? Do many at PSU really believe that they'll be there for more than 2-3 years? And could this not be a "Dennis Erickson" type deal for Glanville? Stay for a year or two, improving the program, and then move on to a I-A school?

As far as Montana having the defense? No problem. They were in the top 10 in all I-AA last season. They really carried the team to the semis last season, when the offense struggled most of the year. They return, I believe 7 starters. But they played 2-3 deep at every position. They are loaded on that side of the ball.

The phrase "nothing to sneeze at" implies that they should not be overlooked due to redeeming qualities. So, I guess this post is a compliment to psu?

Oops. I knew I'd mess that one up. I meant, "something to sneaze at." The facilities are not up to the level of a Montana, nor even Montana St's. Being off campus (even though an on campus location is not possible), doesn't have the adavantages that on campus facilities have, like at EWU, UM, and MSU.

PSU hiring Glanville isn't going to make a huge difference. Everyone in the Big Sky is second fiddle to Montana. Has been the last 14 seasons, and will continue this year. Montana's team is LOADED for this fall.

Region 10 men's basketball / Re: Northwest Conference

I just realized this, but UPS now owns a 33 game conference winning streak at home. Their last loss at home against a NWC foe was during the 2002-03 season against Lewis & Clark. That's a pretty impressive streak. Hopefully, I didn't jinx the team though.

NFL Europe games are televised on the NFL Network. I believe last year that either one or two of the games per week were televised. I watched quite often last year, because of Montana grad Craig Ochs playing QB over in Germany, leading his team to the championship.

I'd rather not specualate, but Medved had struggled with grades in the past. He was ineligible for the Fall 2 years ago, but was still on the team. He ended up not being eligible for the Spring either and ended up transferring to a CC that spring. And with fall grades being released last week, that could be a reason...

But don't quote me on that.
