I think that Oneonta will fall to Cortland in the championship game.  I don't see Brockport being the same team as in years past in the tournament, and Oneonta seems a little better at this point.  I'd like to see New Paltz do well, and as has been pointed out, their young pitching can probably take a game from someone.

Plattsburgh left the bases loaded multiple times in late innings.  Hitting in clutch situations has hurt the Cards all year and not being able to convert with so many men LOB really hurt.

Plattsburgh lost that first to Brockport, never finished the second, and has to start the third.  Today they play a DH vs. Clarkson at home.

Plattsburgh struggled to hit again today...just 4 hits in 9 innings of ball doesn't win many games.  Dan Tracy pitched pretty well for most of the game.  Hopefully the Cards start hitting tomorrow and take two.  Ps...Tarheel I believe I was right about that Cortland loss to Oswego.  :)

Tarheel I'm assuming you played at or from Oneonta or some relation...but how does Ferchen keep his job after the DWI?  Does making the NCAAs cover that up?

I see a split tomorrow when Plattsburgh hosts Oneonta.  Oneonta seems to take too many games for granted and Plattsburgh seems to know when they have to win one.  Cortland SHOULD sweep both Oswego and lowly Fredonia but I see them dropping one of those...probably to Oswego.  New Paltz should take two from Oswego and Brockport could drop 2 to Plattsburgh.  That being said, Plattsburgh, IMO, has two positions they need to figure out.  First base and DH, where power has been lacking all year, needs to see someone step up and take that spot. Otherwise that trip to Brockport could turn ugly.

Late and obvious update

Plattsburgh takes the third game
Plattsburgh  2 - 2 - 1
New Paltz    0 - 6 - 2

Cards take the game with only two hits and make the most of errors on New Paltz's part.  One error by the first baseman scores two in the fifth.  Tyler Greene throws 7.0 good shutout innings.  Good news for Plattsburgh is that their defense seems to have found a rotation that works for the most part.  Bad news...their 1-4 hitters were a combined 3-42 during the triple header.  Forget my earlier postings about baserunning mistakes.  Have to be on base to commit those.  Again, 3-42.  Yikes.

Second game of triple-header

Plattsburgh  6 - 7 - 1
New Paltz    3 - 9 - 1

Plattsburgh scores 1 apiece in the 1st, 2nd, and 4th.  New Paltz evens it up with 3 in the 6th in part to two solo shots by J. Cameron and J. Briggs.  It goes into extras after 7 (second game of a scheduled SUNYAC doubleheader) and Plattsburgh doubles 3 straight times (P. Shaughnessy, J. Handy, C. Pack) after a D. Tyler infield single, all with 2 outs.  B. Burns picks up the win in relief of B. Piser, going 1.2 inn, 1 hit, 0 bb, 0 runs.  Still, Plattsburgh struggles to hit at the top of the order with their 1-4 going combined 0-13.  J. Handy had the big game for Plattsburgh going 3-4 2 2b, 2 rbi, 2 runs.

First game of triple-header

New Paltz     5 - 5 - 1
Plattsburgh   1 - 5 - 1

Danny Roeser was the lone hitter for the Cards going 2-4 with a double and triple.  First four for the Cards a combined 1-12.  Last three combined 1-11.  New Paltz got 3 in the first and 2 in the 5th.  Another solid game from Paul Handy going 8.0 inn. 5 hits 5 runs 4 er 4 k.

3 games in one day is absurd. Every tournament I have ever been a part of both as a coach and as a player has refused to allow a team to play 3 games in one day. Why? Safety. It can harm players physically if proper managing is not done. If I am Doorey or Griffiths I would have refused this outcome.

Wheaton (IL) played a triple-header at Chapman on Saturday. It happens...

Just because it happens doesn't mean it should.  And you're right, it does happen, and it might continue to.  That is until someone gets seriously injured from exhaustion, or worse.  It always sounds like a joke until it happens.

Well the way it is being presented has the double header, or saturday's games, being played at 9 a.m. and the game from Sunday starting at 2:45 p.m.  I would imagine they keep them at the same amount of innings or you run into the problem that you stated just now Tarheel, and thats obviously a different format than all other games.  Two major concerns for me.  Safety obviously playing that much baseball in one day, and quality of baseball by the end of the day.  Is it still going to be good baseball?  Last year our doubleheader with them lasted over 7 hours.  Add another game onto that and you then expect both Plattsburgh (at Casenovia) and New Paltz (at Ithaca) to play another game the very next day??  And 3 more on the weekend vs. conference opponents.  Stupid to sat the least.

So I haven't really thought that the heads of SUNYAC could get any dumber after making Plattsburgh play two teams every weekend while their conference opponents only faced them...for the last two years.  Now we make the switch to three-game sets, which I like the idea of.  Yet someone thinks it's a good idea to play a TRIPLE HEADER in New Paltz on Tuesday.  Three games in one day?  Not safe and unfair for the competitiveness of college baseball.  And don't tell me it's just as unfair for New Paltz as it is for Plattsburgh.  I'm not arguing that.  It's stupid either way to ask these kids to play 3 games in one day.

Plattsburgh cancels the trip tomorrow to N.J. and postpones the weekend doubleheader @ New Paltz.  Long week off to right the ship.

Plattsburgh splits with Western Connecticut, losing 15-3 (I believe) and winning 1-0 to close out their Florida trip.  Kris Cauchon drove in the lone run in the back end of the DH and Bobby Piser threw seven great shutout innings.
