My sources say:

SCAC: Trinity, Southwestern, Austin, Dallas, Colorado (And some schools that will be annouced soon)

Other conference...possibly called the CAC (which is the old name of the SCAC)

Centre, Sewanee, Rhodes, BSC, Oglethorpe, Millsaps, Hendrix, Berry

You would think they would add 2 more schools for football.

It has been quite on the board the last couple of weeks...maybe the calm before the SCAC Tourny Storm?

Anyways, time for some predictions. Last year OU was, wink, wink...a sleeper pick. I think that changes this year.

Day 1:
Rhodes over Hendrix: This should be a fun one to watch, but I think Rhodes has a ton of experience and all those close games this season will help them out this weekend.

DePauw over Millsaps: DePauw once again is hitting their stride at the right time. They have 3 solid pitchers and enough bats to win this thing.

Trinity over OU: Tigers just too much for the Petrels in this one.

Day 2:
Hendrix over Millsaps: Millsaps is the first team eliminated this year.

OU over Rhodes: The 3 game series in Atlanta was as close as it gets with 3 one-run games...no difference here as OU stays alive with a narrow victory.

Trinity over Depauw: Rematch of last years title game, Texas Tigers continue to march.

Day 3:
DePauw over Rhodes: Rhodes swept the season series, but DePauw gets the last laugh here. Rhodes is eliminated.

Hendrix over OU: Hendrix starts to get the mojo going and wins this one in a battle of 3 seeds.

Trinity over Depauw: Trinity beats DePauw for the second straight day to eliminate the Indiana Tigers.

Day 4:

Hendrix wins game one to force the winner takes all game. Trinity finally gets over the Hendrix hump and wins the 2011 SCAC title.

Oglethorpe gets off to a 2-0 start in SCAC play with two nail bitters against Sewanee and also run their win streak to 8 games. Matt Cornwell continues to show why he might be one of the toughest competitors in the league. He pitched 3 innings in game 1 picking up the save and pitched the final inning in game 2 to pick up his 5th save of the year. Of course he also started at SS both games. That makes 4 saves in the last 4 games. Also, I found out yesterday that he was struk by a line drive in the face while pitching Sunday and didn't miss a beat, in fact after laying on the ground for a minute or two he got up to strike out the final batter vs. Washington and Jefferson.

I will also mention that Sewanee has a good team this year. Both starting pitchers were very solid and that lineup can hit! My prediction is they will not be pushover in the East, they will win their fair share of games in SCAC play.

Petrels going for 9 in a row today vs. Selma University.

Petrels walk-off Bates College 10-9. It was more like Maine weather than Atlanta weather, but the southern team pulled it out with 3 runs in the 9th. Brendan Pilger is starting to heat up and getting back to the player he was last season before he broke his hand. Good win versus a very good Bates team.

Word out of Petrel camp is they will play Sewanee in a DH on Tuesday March 22nd at Oglethorpe starting at 5pm. Two things 1) The games are now in Atlanta, which assuming is becasue of the lights 2) They will be mid-week before both teams play SCAC games 4 days later....

The Petrels will host Hampden-Sydney tomorrow at Coolray Field, home of the AAA Braves. The field is the exact dimensions as Turner field, which is a big park for MLB standards, let alone college. Should be a good experience for the teams.

Oglethorpe and Sewanee had their entire series rained out this weekend which was supposed to be held at Sewanee. Not sure if there is a makeup planned. But, I think this is twice now in three years OU has lost a complete series due to weather.

I wonder how many games have been lost at Sewanee over the years. I remember the SCAC title game between Millsaps/Trinity was cancelled a few years back also. Maybe time to think about playing games off campus and not on the mountain??

Anyway, this is probably a tough break for OU if they can't make these up. I haven't posted much about them this year, yet...but I think they are a team a bit snake bitten early this year. They have not put everything together but They have played some good baseball against some good teams but only few wins to show for it.
