I don't believe transfers are counted.  Gass is actually a freshman eligibility wise, sophomore in school.  He broke his wrist last spring before the season started.

Midway Stadium is an average at best facility.  Yes they have locker rooms and a grand stand, but the field itself is average.  The infield is decent, but the outfield has rolling hills that keep getting bigger as they go.  If the CF plays in the right spot, you can't see his feet or shins from the dugout.  Eau Claire or another Northwoods facility is an interesting idea though.  It would give Northwoods league GM's and front staff an up close look at some of the top D3 kids in the area who are often overlooked for D1 and D2 kids.  Any D3 kid should appreciate and play their hearts out for a chance in the Northwoods League or other top collegiate summer league, and many of these individuals are just as if not more talented than some of the players teams have.  Being a Minnesota guy, an option that intrigues me is Putz and Faber fields in St. Cloud.  They have hosted numerous NSIC/NCC championships as well has this year's D2 central regional.  How about a push for St. Johns to host the regional tournament in near by St. Cloud?

Now that some of the All Conference teams are starting to be released, where who would you guys vote as the Midwest Region Pitcher and Position Player of the Year?

Some of the leading candidates would seem to be:

Pitcher-
Westphal-Oshkosh
Lewis-CSS
Hughes-St. Olaf
Hallahan-Bethany Lutheran

Position-
Koback-Stevens Point
Moody-CSS
Rahm-St. Thomas

Oshdude?  I know you have an opinion on this...... ;D

I would have to replace Hallahan on this list with Justin Kohls from BLC. Kohls went 9-0 with a 1.87 era and .221 BA/against

BLC actually only beat Aurora once, 6-1 in Florida, but they did so with Aurora's ace on the mound

BLC sweeps St. Olaf 6-2, 6-4.  Hallahan picks up the win in game one. Siefken settles down after giving up 3 runs in the 1st to go the distance and pick up the win in game two.

MIACLUV, your opinion on St. Olaf is correct on them having an outside shot in my mind with important in region games coming up, but hopefully BLC can sweep them at home to end their chances and put BLC in a better position themselves.  Both teams are coming off very rough losses so we'll see what each team is made out of tomorrow.
As for your Verdugo bashing, what coach wouldn't want to have all the assets St. Thomas has with their facilities and funding?! Despite being fairly close down the road, Hamline is in a much rougher neighborhood to live. They don't have their own field for practice and games and are at the mercy of the city and the Saints when they are able to use Midway, and their baseball locker room is in a different building than their field house so players have to go outside in the winter after changing.  On top of that, St. Thomas has more majors to choose from to be able to recruit a wider variety of kids.  Verdugo is a great coach and an even better person if you get to know him, and he has done a great job turning that program around.

Olaf can still get in, but being 3 games back with 6 to play doesnt give them great odds. In their favor-they play St. Thomas tomorrow and a sweep there only puts them a game out.  St. Johns also has a tough end to the season playing MAC and Concordia so a few losses there would make things interesting.  Bottom line is Olaf needs to win out to give themselves a realistic shot- I can't see the teams ahead of them losing 4 or 5 of their last 6.  If they don't make the MIAC tournament there is precedent for making the region as I believe Conc. Chicago did that last year, but they would have to sweep BLC on tuesday in Mankato in a non-conference DH for quality in region wins

Based on MIACLUV's region rankings, below is each team's SOS with in region records according to the D3 website for each team listed, and I threw in Macalester because they currently are in 1st place in the MIAC.

Bethany Lutheran- 6 (9-5)
Stevens Point- 9 (11-5)
Whitewater- 11 (14-4)
Macalester- 19 (11-6)
St. Olaf- 28 (15-4)
Oshkosh- 38 (9-5)
UW Lacrosse- 174 (14-6)
St. Scholastica- 180 (9-2)
Concordia- 270 (13-4)

well so much for Olaf running away with the conference like early predictions indicated.  St. Thomas falls to 3-5 against Hamline in the last four years, which is a pretty impressive stat considering all of St. Thomas' success over that period.

With the exception of Hallahan getting hit around in the 11-1 loss to CSS, the same can be said about Bethany.  Two one run losses to Coe in Florida with the Vikings kicking the ball around(7 total errors), a 13 inning one run loss at Buena Vista (no errors, but 13 LOB=missed opportunities), and friday's 7-6 loss to CSS with 3 errors and another 3 or so plays that couldve, shouldve been made.  Both teams have key non conference games against St. Thomas and St. Olaf who have been the class of the MIAC for years so we'll see how the top 2 of the UMAC stack up against the top 2 of the MIAC. (even though Thomas has been down this year they are still the team to beat until someone officially knocks them off)

0 runs through 6 innings against a pretty average pitcher is not very good, but Bethany did put up 14 and 12 runs the other two games so maybe their bats are starting to come around?  The sign of a good team is finding ways to win when they dont play their best, a reason CSS has had so much success over the years.  Biggest matchup of the UMAC season happens this weekend in Duluth when CSS hosts Bethany.  Is this the year CSS is finally taken down or will their run of dominating the UMAC continue?

well it looks like BLC and CSS will be forced to stay indoors for a while longer with this weekends games cancelled in Rockford.
#14
CSS and Bethany are scheduled to take the field again this weekend in Rockford, Illinois to play Rockford and Augsburg in double headers.  Rockford shared their regular season league title last year and Augsburg fell in the MIAC playoff championship so these games should be a good test for both and solid victories for the UMAC against good competition.

One win may not make seeding, but it goes further than the zero wins they had last year against St. Thomas. I am excited to see how the conference season will play out. After first hand experience watching the ball fly off of these bats, i cannot wait to see how the pitching staffs of CSS and BLC will do. The UMAC is underated as far as pitching staffs and defensive plays are concerned and should gain considerable recogniton this year. This is all assuming that the snow melts at some point. Counting down the days until the two aces of CSS and BLC squre off!
