ICAlum:

A very nice post.

I sometimes wonder if the players regret not being able to get home for a few days in order to play another game. Your perspective is quite helpful.

P.S.: I attended that 2013 game and your are correct the final was 23-15. The Wolverines lost in the next round to Mt. Union 62-59 (!)

Decided to pay and watch the game but after signing up i am not getting video - just play-by-play summary. Anyone else having same problem> Suggestions??

The announcers for the Union game mentioned several times that the competition for the starting QB role was nip and tuck between Pacatte and Sherman in the pre-season but it certainly seemed the coaches had little confidence in Sherman's passing abilities.

Still: sitting here hundreds of miles from the action watching my rather small monitor I side with Mr. palooza; when Sherman launched that long ball to Ross I said to myself "He's got him!!" only to see Ross pull up. Had they completed that one I think the Dutchmen would have held on for the win.

Thank you for that update. I did not know that information was available.

I also number myself among those that miss paper programs.

Most likely I will not be able to watch the live video of the Union game tomorrow. Is there some place to watch a rerun?

Appreciate any advice.

Finally got to attend my first Union game Saturday. Certainly got my money's worth.

For Union the phrase "We won, but we didn't beat anybody" comes to mind. I was truly surprised to see Irabor (who I just saw was named Offensive Player of The Week by LL) gained 121 yards. I made the comment during the game that I thought he had about 30 carries for 35 yards. That's what it looked like to me. Every yard he got was hard earned.

I agree with the comments about changes needed in the passing attack. Would like to see some involvement of a Tight End in the middle of the field.

I have read "fire the cannon" for years now but have no recollection of hearing one this weekend. Was it actually in use? I attended many Rutgers games when I lived in NJ and they also fired a cannon after scores and I heard that one!

Finally: I always try to buy a program for any game I attend but Union only offers a digital one. Is this the norm now? If I had a son on the team I would very much want a printed version. Ten years or so from now it would be nice to pull out the program and reminisce.

Think it worth noting the Union OL has 1 freshman, 1 soph, and 3 juniors and the TE mentioned (Crystal) is also a junior so bodes well for the near future.

I'm a terrible pessimist and, as others have addressed, am worried about Unions final 2 games, especially against RPI. Seems like the classic "Trap game" scenarios.

Weather forecast here in central Delaware for Saturday is chilly and windy but no precipitation. No doubt will be cold in Schenectady but is rain or snow being called for?

As a relative newcomer to following the LL and Union in particular wanted to say it was a pleasure watching that game film.

My goodness: 51 years ago! Many of those young men are now in their 70's. Win or lose I hope they have fond memories of their playing days.

I wonder if many of the participants even know of this films existance?

Ski:

As of now the long range forecast for Saturday is cloudy with high temperature of 72. Hope that holds.

As with Wesleydad plan to finally get to a game this season.

Semi-serious question: do they pass the hat on the visitors side at Union games? Only watch the games online so don't know how full the stands were on the home side but looked like a bunch of folks watching from the hillside behind the visitors and I assume they do not pay any admission fee. Nice ambiance though.

I'm a newcomer to LL football so know little about the athletic histories of the schools. Learning a bit and enjoying the banter on this site.

One Union player who caught my eye is OT Tim Driscoll; just a freshman but getting a fair bit of playing time. He's listed at 225 pounds but looks more like 190 as he's quite tall. Seems to be holding his own however (no pun intended).

That is good news indeed.

Hoping to attend at least one Union game this season but right now looks iffy; having this service available should lessen the sting of not seeing things live. (I am somewhat fortunate living in Dover, DE that I can usually make some of Wesley's games. Wesley  has a tough opener next Friday against Delaware Valley).

I appreciate the welcomes and the information.

As to hockey: one grandson (we have 11 grandchildren) is very much involved in that sport as a goalie. He lives in NJ and we have noted Union is at Princeton on December 2nd so we have hopes of attending that contest.

Hello folks.

I have a granddaughter who will be attending Union starting next fall. I enjoy D3 football  and am trying to learn a little about the Liberty League in general and of course Union in particular. One question that comes to mind is what school is considered Union's biggest rival in football?

I live in Dover, DE and have had the opportunity to attend a few Wesley games; the Wolverines have had some success the last few years and with luck might again make the playoffs but some tough games are upcoming.  I realise Union has been down for a few seasons but it appears things are now on the upswing. I certainly hope to attend a game or two next season in conjunction with visits to my granddaughter.

Unfortunately for me I missed the latter parts of the game so did not see the winning drive and conversion. I certainly was not optimistic at halftime.

I was surprised watching the game on nctv17.com at the number of empty seats. I imagine the home side was filled but with a top 5 team as your opponent I would think the visitors side would have been much more populated than it was.

I have yet to see Wesley in person this season and was hoping to attend next weeks game but with an opponent who has lost 3 games by an average score of 66-8 I'm not sure. I just hope no one gets injured.

wesleydad:

Take solace in one thing: imagine of that first quarter had been televised like an NFL game. Touchdown Wesley and the extra point is good. Half a dozen replays. Then as many or more commercials. OK we're back and here's the kickoff to HS. We'll take break now for more commercials...so forth and so on. I could imagine that quarter taking 90 minutes.
