How far has lax fallen? I was surprised. Lax last made the playoffs in 2006, and since then they are 3-6 vs uwec, which last made the playoffs in 2007. Posters who insist that administrative support from the top is essential for significant progress to take place are correct.

Resources are indeed tight at UWL - Dettwiler made less than many high school football coaches in the area.

Former coach Larry Terry led the effort to fundraise and build Veterans Memorial Field.  After him, former AD Josh Whitman led significant fundraising efforts to:
- Partner with the La Crosse Loggers to upgrade Copeland Park and make it the Eagles' baseball home.
- Raise funds to upgrade technology/scoreboards at all athletic facilities
- Announced a brand new gymnastics training and competition facility.  When he left in 2014, so did any plans to complete this project.
- Announced a brand new fieldhouse for UWL athletics.  This was supposed to have begun construction in 2014 but is delayed indefinitely.  https://www.uwlax.edu/fieldhouse/

The common theme here is private funds.  The only project to be completed with university support is the fieldhouse, and that is delayed indefinitely.  The locker/athletic training/meeting rooms for athletes of all sports are in Mitchell Hall and are circa the 1960's.  Athletics has not been a priority for the school's administration for some time, and unless their attitudes change, success on the field will be a challenge for whoever the coach is.  Right now UWL Football has a gorgeous stadium with locker room and support facilities from 40 years ago.

Coach Terry said as much when he retired in 2011.  The football program does have more resources now (3 full-time coaches vs. 1 previously), however the schools administration has not changed it's tune.

What do Whitewater, Oshkosh and Platteville have in common? A chancellor that understands the importance of having a strong football program. There is no question in my mind that a "football savvy" chancellor has been a huge reason for the Warhawks success over the years. There are some WIAC chancellors that put athletics on the back burner in my mind.

Story on Bill Johnson's passing is up on the Linfield Athletics site:

http://www.linfield.edu/sports/release.html?id=6097&sport=gs

I had the opportunity to meet Bill when we (UW-Whitewater) were in Alliance for the 2005 D3 playoff game against Linfield.  Bill had a certain presence about him and loved talking football. He was a pro's pro. Rest in peace my friend

Here's an excerpt from CincyJungle.com's Day 1 Training Camp Report: "Jake Kumerow, who bleeds effort and physicality, should have a clear path toward the 53-man roster, especially now that his broken finger has healed. He caught most oases on target, and a ridiculous first step near sensationalism."

On a serious note... Tom Pattison here. I've spent the 10 days constructing A CaringBridge Website that allows me to talk online with other cancer patients around the country. In just two days I've already gotten some Guestbook posts! Please note the adjacent link to stay informed on a daily basis on my difficult struggle with cancer. Thank you so much!!

Cincinnati Bengal rookie minicamp got underway yesterday. The Cincinnati Enquirer sports section today includes a feature photo of former UW-Whitewater wide receiver Jake Kumerow making one of those one-handed catches he often made at Perkins Stadium

Hey voice, went to my favorite sports apparel shop in I'taewon in Seoul on Sat. and got made a #84 Bengal home jersey (Kumerow), #6 Packer road white jersey (Blanchard), as well as a powder blue Charger #28 (Melvin Gordon).  I support Behrendt and Grayvold, too, but besides not knowing what (if any) jersey number the Vikings assigned them, I simply can not get myself to wear a Viking jersey under any circumstance. Maybe I'll get theirs when they make the team, however. They're under $30 each ($100 on the NFL shop), made to order. Great deal, in my book.

Its sort of funny... Brady Grayvold is from the UP of Michigan but he has been a longtime Vikings fan - not a Lion's fan. Isn't it ironic???

Another UW-Whitewater football player is getting a shot at the NFL. Brady Grayvold just tweeted: "Just got the call of a lifetime, I GOT AN INVITE TO THE MINNESOTA VIKINGS ROOKIE MINI CAMP THIS WEEKEND! IS THIS A DREAM?! UNBELIEVABLE"

UW-Whitewater announced this week a renovation project that will improve its current locker room facility that hasn't been significantly modified since the stadium was constructed over 40 years ago.

This project is a comprehensive renovation of the Perkins Stadium service building that will fulfill the needs of today's student-athlete and help carry Warhawk Football into it's next era.

A brand new, larger, and more functional locker room will give our current team a suitable meeting space and serve as a valuable recruiting tool. In addition, the sports medicine area will expand and feature a state-of-the-art hydrotherapy that is integral to the recovery and rehabilitation of student-athletes.

This project is proposed to fully realize this vision and keep Warhawk Football as the preeminent program in college football

I see that according to BW's report on the baseball board, Lake Bachar pitched 6 innings, striking out 10 and walking 2, giving up 6 hits and one earned run in earning a victory against Elmhurst this past week. Bachar is UW-W's kicker and is playing college baseball for the first time this spring.

Lake's fast ball is consistently in the upper 80s and occasionally in the lower 90s on the radar gun. And yes he's a kicker!!

There have been a couple of critical posts during the off-season that UW-Whitewater would schedule a school such as Finlandia (Mich) on it's 2015 schedule. The school's first year of football was 2014.  Not only Whitewater, but UW-Stevens Point, and UW-Oshkosh are also on Finlandia's 2015 football schedule
