Quote from: Etchglow on January 13, 2025, 09:31:04 PMUMHB picks up transfer from 6'6" QB from UTEP/Kilgore College Seth Mouser:

https://x.com/mouser_seth/status/1878985188870598678

Coach Lee doing coach Lee things already in the portal.

Mouser looks good... 6'6" but can move pretty fast and can make all the throws. Played some at Kilgore JUCO and played in spring game and no fall action at UTEP but is certainly a D1 caliber QB.

Was a 2 star by 247 and a 3 star by rivals/espn. Had offers to UTEP and Tulsa out of high school. Looks good, high ceiling.

Quote from: Etchglow on December 26, 2024, 05:26:17 PMInteresting comments on the Instagram post about coach Lee coming back... Kade Renfro posted "let's Ride"

Very, that would seem to mean Renfro is returning for next season. I saw on his profile he was wearing a big knee brace recently, that would explain him disappearing after the early scrimmage.

Knowing coach Lee, he will likely have a guy or two that he plans to bring in at QB also... Lee always had a good eye for gunslingers. Kyle King and Hammack were Lee era transfers.

Quote from: Crubacker on December 26, 2024, 03:47:25 PMYeah, but wondering why he only stayed a year?  Did Padron leave on his own, mutual or did he get let go?  I had heard he put in for the Head Coaching position at Temple High School when Stewart stepped down.

JUCO HC isn't everyone's cup of tea.. I don't blame him.

As for Padron, he was let go. I don't think the school really wanted to make big fuss about it with official press release but from the folks I've talked to yes he was fired.

Quote from: The Third Division on December 26, 2024, 01:20:39 PMPerhaps he was getting sick of having a new job each of the past 3 seasons.

Abilene Christian D1 offensive coordinator(8-4) left to take the head coach job at Cisco JUCO (4-4) and then coached tight ends at Tarleton D1. He wasn't fired from any of those positions for anyone wondering.

Anyone heard anything about candidates for the OC job?

I'm sure there were quite a few applicants.

Thank you for this Etch. Really appreciate the list, I always follow and check in to see the updates.

Quote from: Ron Boerger on December 14, 2024, 10:13:41 PMSo what happened?  Brown left ETBU as soon as he could.

Winning/Playing in a national championship probably would've changed that.

Quote from: UMHB03 on December 14, 2024, 03:01:46 PMSolid improvement from the Crusader team this year, particularly toward the end of the season.

A couple of personnel priorities that they need to address if we are going to continue work our way back to the Stagg Bowl:

1. Go find some mean, nasty, road grading offensive linemen. The guys we had this year are big, but they are soft and get pushed around way too much for guys their size.

2. Scour the portal for some explosive WRs. UMHB has solid role players at the position, but it has been sorely missing guys who can score from anywhere on the field ever since KJ Miller and Aaron Sims left. Without the ability to score on big plays, the offense is forced to methodically drive the field, leaving little room for error, and they are still too undisciplined and mistake prone to do that consistently.

3. Find a stud QB (easier said than done, I know). Wright is not a bad player, but I'm also not convinced he is a championship caliber player. We don't currently have a King/Hammack/Jackson type player on this team, and we're not going to get over the hump without one.

Otherwise, they have a defense and RB stable that are capable of winning a championship. Make a few upgrades and I think the Crusaders will be a contender in 2025.

I'm going to agree and somewhat disagree on these.

1.) I actually think the O-Line was solid this season, we had no passing game and were running into an 8 man box half the time... that's going to make any offensive line in the country look worse.

2.) Obviously would love to have a KJ Miller out there but we've only had a few guys like that in the history of the program... we do have guys like AJ Williams who I believe to be probably the most talented wide out in the conference and maybe more, but again just can't get him the dang football. Same goes for our TE Gacayan, All-American potential if he had touches..

3.) Yes, I agree. This was probably the missing piece & likely the difference of playing in the Stagg Bowl. If ETBU can recruit a guy like Kaden Brown idk why we can't...

Congrats to the Cru we have gotten a little better each week (in the playoffs) vs better and better opponents.

We have been so up and down this has definitely been the most difficult Cru Football team to gauge i've ever seen in 20+ seasons. We seem to have bottled up some "chip on our shoulder" mentality and I think this team 100% plays their best when doubted, as the road dogs 2.0.

Next game in Baltimore vs Johns Hopkins looks like a defensive knock down drag out between two top 3 defenses in D3. GO CRU.

Quote from: wildcat11 on December 01, 2024, 12:28:55 PMShould be a classic battle next Saturday.

TLU wasn't ready for that yesterday. This is a very good Linfield team. No Brett Elliot, Sam Riddle, Alex Hoff type of apex player but I don't see a weakness. Kicking game is strong, return game is strong, great d-line/LB's, etc, etc.

Thanks, I was able to watch most of the first half vs TLU. Linfield just so well rounded, no holes really like you said. That worries me some because of how lopsided our strengths have been this season. Top 5 caliber defense but the offense has really struggled to create any explosive plays despite having good athletes. Partly QB play has been mediocre and partly the play calling has been REALLY tight.

Logan Hansen has Linfield listed as -11 point favorites on his model.. I don't disagree ya'll should be favored but I would've said -7 at the most. Hoping for a good one in McMinnville.

Looks like we're headed to the Catdome once more. Always enjoy playing a historic program, should be a big time atmosphere in McMinnville per usual.

How would you guys rate your Linfield team compared to the 2021 team? That was the last time we met.

Our defense played at an elite, championship level today. Outside of a near pick six and a fumble on our own 15 our defense truly only allowed 3 points against a VERY GOOD HSU offense.

That being said, if we don't throw the ball down the field and take some chances next week will 110% be the end of the road for us in Oregon. Enough of the quick side screens and cute stuff, play football and let it rip Padron, for PETE sake (lol).

R1 Prediction

UMHB 16
Trinity 13

UMHB does something they haven't done once in the last two seasons, they will find a way to win a close game.

I believe if we can do that we will get the monkey off of our back in many ways and might get some mojo going. Trinity will be well coached and prepared, hopefully our players don't need reminding that our last meeting ended 35-16 in San Antonio.

GO CRU

Quote from: Etchglow on November 17, 2024, 10:37:57 AMCan't say I was expecting UMHB to make the playoffs... Not getting my hopes off but it would be nice if we could knock HSU out of the playoffs haha.

Same boat, definitely not expecting a Stagg Bowl run but I will likely drag myself down to San Antonio and hopefully up to Abilene for R2. I hope to be proved wrong about my statements about the coaching staff, sincerely. Fire up the #RoadDogs Bus and GO CRU!

At this point if a change isn't made we are putting our program at risk of long term mediocrity (at best) or total collapse. If you can't see it idk what to tell you.

Dr O'Rear and Randy Mann were both high level competitors and were involved during our championship runs under coach Fred. They must see that this isn't the same program, from the inside out. Culture has changed, plain and simple.

Relieve Harmon, start the rebuild. Be aggressive and go get someone who's talent and leadership is on par with our standard, because we don't have that now. GO CRU.
