Couldn't agree more. There is a line from Remember the Titans that says, "attitude reflects Leadership" . I know from my observations of some of the leadership that I have seen in the last two years under Coach Mumme, that attitude does reflect leadership. Having said that, I also have a kid from our town and church who attends McM and runs track. Not a better kid in the world. All students athletes and coaches need to remember that it is individual actions that do reflect upon their institution and their team. Be frustrated. Sure. No team gets all the calls their way and every team and point out at least one or two plays that should have gone their way, but how you handle adversity is what makes you the person you are supposed to be. Anyone can be a good sport when times are good. I think the coaches should have handled the situation differently and either the unwillingness or the inablity to do so says more to me than the words spoken after. After all, actions speak louder than words.

It has been a couple of weeks since my last post. I have been a little shell shocked and in mourning, my son was the starting receiver who got a tibia/fibula fracture on the kickoff last week in Oregon. Had surgery in Oregon and we got Colton home late last Sunday/night Monday and it has been a whirlwind trying to get everything done for him. Hopefully a redshirt/medical waiver is in the cards. But just from his perspective and the mistakes did contribute, leadership will be a big issue this week. No one thinks they can't comeback. I don't know about the qb situation being revisited. Zach, is taller, less suspect when it comes to pressure and having to respond quickly. I know from having been at the previous two games, height of Taylor on blitzes made his viewing anyone but his comfortable target an issue and MC did a great job of taking away that option but I still think that T Bird has the inside track. I hope it will be revisited just because Zach brings some other elements to the table. The two fumbled punts can't be placed on Taylor and the offense. Makes it real hard for defense to continue its process with those situations. This week will be a big week, but it just proves the point that I have been trying to make the last couple of weeks, No one outside of the ASC seems to give credit for just how tough getting through the conference really is. Go Cowboys.

Thanks, Thought it sounded a little fishy and wanted to be sure to nip it in the bud before it was passed on. Good luck to all the ASC this weekend and Go Cowboys! I am a homer also even though I played at AC. Would like to Sartain and his bunch do well. I really liked Mark as a grad assistant and appreciate the way that he conducts his program. Burleson will be the same at HSU and carry on the cowboy tradition.

yes, HSU is flying, boys left at 4 this morning by bus to dfw then take off about nine to head to Portland then about an hour drive to Salem. And i agree with the lack of respect that the ASC gets. Out of the top half of the league, there are no easy games and depending upon home/vs visiting there are challenges everywhere. Heard the other day that some of the northern schools have scholarship track programs that some of their football players receive and they they compete at DIII in football but in DII or even DI in track. Is that a possibility and if that is what is happening, doesn't that sort of cross the line when it comes to fair non scholarship football. Just trying to check out the source and see if it was bad info or not.

Thanks Ralph for the welcome and for the info. Makes sense that only one bid per conference but was just wondering about the at large parts. As to the criteria that puts emphasis upon the head to head in region games, I take it that HSU traveling to Oregon this coming Saturday and say they travel well, will not count as much even though they play a team that is traditionally a power on the west coast? Sorry I took so long to get back. Sundays are busy for me. Look forward to insights and discussions and maybe some friendly bragging and challenges along the way.

easy guys, I am just asking a question, when you limit a state to one bid, and put teams in to the playoffs based upon opinion for the few at large bids, it becomes a little more difficult to control your own destiny. I agree take care of business and it settles itself. Just wondering why it seems, and not just HSU, you could put LC in from last year, that some don't take into consideration the competition that for example the ASC brings every saturday. ETBU and Wesley for example, just from the box score, ETBU gives a top five team all they can handle at their place and if they correct just a couple of the turnovers, it is quite possibly a totally different outcome. I have been around Texas football a long time. Played at AC back when Tarelton was still a non scholarship school and you didn't get in the playoffs except by ranking and AC was consistently ranked back in the day. I respect your insights, and if it is simply consistency at winning national championships, fair enough. But that still doesn't explain why teams, consistently rankend in the top 25 every year, are overlooked for one of the at large bids just because they don't win their conference. And you are right, HSU has to travel next week and we will see how they handle that. At least the team won't be going by bus. The trip from Sherman to Sul Ross was bad enough back in the day, can't imagine the trip from Iowa.

Question, why do the northern schools get so much credit over teams in Texas. Coe finishes second in their confernece last year according to their web site and still gets into the playoffs and returns 23 starters, 21 and 2 speciality personnel, ranked 10th, and basically doesn't show up for the game. I can pick three maybe four teams from last years conf. that were clearly better than this team HSU faced today. Texas football doesn't get the respect in my opinion that it deserves or at least true south region football. I don't consider 14+ teams from Penn. as southern teams even though they are in the south region. Just wondering why it seems that voters carry weight on at large bids that over rate schools from other regions.

any news on the morris injury? Next week might be a little better due to first year program but still same caliber athletes. I don't know that any pay out would be worth this type of demoralizing game.

Players usually don't transfer from di to diii and pay to play if they are di caliber. Had a fullback transfer to AC my jr. year from Ok St. Bigger that just about anyone we had on the team faster, came in the spring and never came back, no work ethic. You might have some players who went to di schools but when they got there, found out they might not could cut it. There is a lot of difference between DI and DIII players, even ACU and TSU and Midwestern, always at the top nationally don't play teams of SFA's class. SFA already had their second string offense in the game. Still wondering how you take much positive from this. I agree, this probably won't ever happen again.

New to the board, have read as a guest for a couple of years. I have a son playing at HSU, junior this year and I played at Austin College back in the 80's when Sartain was a grad asst. Just wondering as well what will be consider a positive ouctome for McMurry tonight. I know the obvious is a win, but if that is not the case, how do you spin a say 55-14 loss into a positive and does the pay out translate into a positive thing if you lose morale or lose a couple of key players. I agree, most of the players at DIII are equally talented as many playing at other levels, just tend to be very undersized and 180 moving at 4.4 vs. 215 moving at 4.4 is not an equal collision. Any thoughts? And I am glad to be here with you all. I have enjoyed your comments throughout the seasons and will remind you also that this isn't the first time HSU has had to replace a QB or receivers or other skill players. After watching the scrimmage the other day, we should be in good shape to contend this year.
