Having followed Bethel Football for 20 years I need to say this was the best all-around team we have put on the field. Congratulations to Coach J and the team on a great season and a great career for these Seniors! You have achieved much for which you can be very proud. Looking forward to next season and another run through the playoffs. :)
I agree with this.

Tough way to end a tremendous season for Bethel, but the ending does little to diminish the rest of it.  Well done, guys!

"Bethel Royals, on to victory has we proudly sing your name HEY HEY HEY
Bethel Royals, we will cheer you as you win your way to fame HEY HEY HEY..."

Go fight win, Bethel! Mental toughness will rule the day, whether for BU or NCC.

When we played at Trinity in 2002, the field was painted green!
Small world...I was actually at that game.  Matter of fact, that was the day I met and made friends with Johnnie Red!  He was rather stunned to see somebody in a Bethel shirt in the middle of Texas. :D

I was sitting behind a couple of Trinity fans who discussed leaving at halftime.  I politely pointed out to them that I had played enough games against SJU to know that the fight wasn't nearly over yet.  Once the comeback started, the look on their faces quickly escalated from nervous, to fear, to all-out panic.  Time just ran out on SJU that day, but the effort from Blake Elliot (deathly sick with the flu) and the rest of the team made me proud to be a MIACer.

That was also the game where later that night the Trinity QB went downtown, got loaded, and fell into the river! ;D  After being arrested for that little stunt, he was suspended for the Stagg Bowl and they got beat.  Way to put your team first, bro! :-\

Our new addition.  Cute as a button when she isn't screaming!

A big atta way to you and your wife, Duff!  As Daddy to two little girls, I can say that your life has changed and will continue to change for the better.  More drama, yes, but mostly for the better.  ;) ;D

"We kind of had to put that on the shelf,'' Johnson said of a return to the Dome, "and we're figuring out ways to heat our field with a lot of blow dryers from all the gals ... and Mitch.''
I'm sure the Mathis brothers have a couple they could donate to such a cause.  When this team takes their helmets off they look like an '80s hair band convention.  Hallstrom is one of the few kids on the team with anything even resembling a haircut...classic Coach J.

Probably followed that with a "wait, what?  Ah dude..." ;D

Hazz, good to hear that the Festival will go on.

However, quite incredible that the music program's enrollment numbers had shrunk to such a level.  Makes me wonder what the causes are of that, and whether or not the move to ax the program will alienate more alumni.

Apologies to everybody else for leading down this bunny trail...back to the foosball. ;D

Check this awesome video of the BU football team out.  It was done by a student at Bethel.  Pretty cool stuff.

The obvious place to start is former players of Steve Johnson,he is the face of Bethel football and those guys from the past 25 years would walk on fire for him.

Yes, I'm one of those and I'm forever in Coach J's debt for what he (and Coach Plinske and Coach Petey) did to turn an 18 year old idiot into a 22 year old lesser idiot (but still an idiot even at 34) ;D.  If a collection is taken up to install turf and/or make other stadium improvements, will gladly put that check in the mail.

Here's a link to what I was talking about with the BU music department.  Music, especially the Festival of Christmas, was one of BU's major PR assets.  That and football are the best things going for it at the moment, and now the former will be disbanded.  Not happy days for the school as a whole.

Looks like the Bethel game is at the Dome on Saturday...
http://athletics.bethel.edu/news/2013/11/20/FB_1120135044.aspx

I saw that. Bummer. I assume it means that any future playoff home games this fall will also not be at BU?

Forecast is for snow Thursday night and then a high of 18* Saturday.  That's an almost identical scenario to what we had for the PLU game back in 2000 when the field froze solid and was still icy in patches for the game.  That was a miserable day, and not just because of the outcome.  Glad to see the lessons of that day weren't ignored in this case.  I would think the decision about where to play will be made on a week-to-week basis.

Agree that the poster is awesome, especially because of who is in the background.

Time for Fieldturf.
No kidding, but considering Bethel's current financial state that's not likely to happen any time soon.  The school announced the gutting of its musical department this week, and it wouldn't surprise me if there's more to come.

Bethel will potentially meet Mount Union before punching their ticket to Salem, but as they say "one game at a time".
First thing I noticed as well.  To be the man, you have to beat the man.  Their regional final game won't be any gimme either.

Mary Hardin Baylor's draw looks really nice.

Just spoke to someone that was in Collegeville yesterday.  It seems that during the rain a number of fans huddled around the protection of the concession / pressbox area and were attempting to watch the game on the TV monitors.  The SJU admin didn't want them doing this so they shut off the televisions.  The message is clear...no webcast and no TV viewing at Clemens Stadium on rainy days.  The person I talked to said that nobody was really buying concessions anyway.   :(  The PR machine in Collegeville is really doing a stellar job.

That's preposterous. :(

By now, I'm sure everybody has seen The Miracle at Jordan-Hare, but in case you missed it...

Strangely enough, this was the thought I had after I'd peeled myself off the living room ceiling.  "Wow, that's the kind of thing that I always felt like SJU was going to pull on us." Standing on the sidelines in the waning seconds of the '99 and '00 BU/SJU games, you could just feel something like that was trying its best to happen.  Johnnie Magic, guess you would call it.  Gut wrenching stuff for all involved, but it is what makes sport (and college football in particular) so special!

The sirens went off here in Lake Geneva about a half hour ago. I looked outside and, though it was raining and quite windy, there were patches of blue sky to the SW. Looks like it's past us now.
Looking at the radar, I don't think you can relax just yet. :( Storms will be approaching from your SW.  Stay safe, my friend!
