My opinion is based on firsthand knowledge and your comments won't change that.

You obviously have a different opinion based on your experiences and your belief that your kid should have played more.  That's not the case for me, and I think it's only fair that other viewpoints are expressed. Simple as that.

I can also attest to Michaeles' character as a person. A  loyal, dedicated and passionate man who cares deeply about his players.

For his role in Brunswick, I think there is cause to be optimistic. When Michaeles took over playcalling duties in Waterville in '09 the mules offense improved by over 10 ppg over the next two seasons. Just my .02

Neat FBS-NESCAC connection.  Yesterday in the Iron Bowl the broadcasters said that this year's Bama team was the second in NCAA history to beat each its first 12 opponents by 20+ points.

The first team to do so? The 1888 Yale Bulldogs. To get to this feat the 1888 Yale team beat Amherst, Williams, and Wesleyan. Yale beat Wesleyan 3 times that year, including a 105-0 walloping in the penultimate game of the season.

I think Alabama's schedule this year may have been a tad tougher but still interesting nonetheless.

Hersch looks legit, most talented QB Colby's had since Ciero, IMO.

Also off topic but a refreshing piece of insight from South Carolina Gamecocks coach Frank Martin on parents in organized sports. All in perspective.

Not to turn our attention from the pesky Millenials, but on the other end of the spectrum, I'm wondering how long Cosgrove will plan to stay at Colby. It looks like an exciting hire, but for how long?

Quote*Why don't you tell me what your son's name is and we can get the film and all comment on him and how his playing ability is and how appropriate we all think he acts during the year?  Then these posts may be a little more fair.

Love it.  Hold everyone to the same critical standard--its only fair, especially in this anonymous forum.

And it was a end of the year banquet.  Its not like he showed up at preseason camp after being fired.  Grow up.

Someone on the board posted last season (I believe) about a NESCAC team taking a knee to end the game from the shotgun and how odd that was. Maryland just shocked Texas in Austin and the terps' QB took three knees to end the game-- all from the gun. Maybe the 'CAC is setting trends?

The Mammoth v. Jumbo showdown/family reunion will be one for the ages!!

I echo PC and island time. If you want to get your son some help so that 3-5 record might improve, discouraging recruits ain't gonna help.

I was also wondering about NESCAC turnaround times.

Wesleyan and Tufts come to mind as positive examples in recent memory.

Whalen took over a 3-5 team in 2010 and got them to a winning record (5-3) by 2012 and back to back 7-1 seasons in '13 and '14.

In Medford, Civetti took over a 1-7 squad in 2011 and got them to a winning record (6-2) by 2015.

These seem to be stellar examples, as we are still awaiting turnarounds at schools that have had more recent coaching changes.  (HAM, BOW, COL, and WIL)

I agree that recruiting will alleviate a team's offensive struggles before a genius play caller will.

I've heard on this board that Colby's online has struggled (though they looked like a better match physically against Hamilton). I'd go on a limb to say that it's impossible to cover up a weak offensive line with play calls.

With a struggling o line you can't run the ball. Running the ball sets up play action, which becomes wholly ineffective if you can't get anything done on the ground. Not being able to run on 1st and second down puts teams in predictable 3rd and long situations, making defensive  play calls a breeze.

In terms of the pass game, if the line struggles you can't attack down field with 5-7 step drop route concepts because the line can't give your QB enough time, so you're limited to quick, short throws.

Given those ramblings above I'd challenge someone to come up with a winning game plan given the shortcomings that accompany a struggling o line. Again, it brings us back to the X's and O's v. Jimmy and Joe's convo. I think the guys you have up front are the more important piece here.

Everyone is entitled to his/her own opinion.

The ironic thing about the "time and place" argument is that the protest is meant to spark a dialogue. Look at the previous posts, it has served that purpose here. And I'd argue that it has done so in a manner better than a protest in a more appropriate "time or place," which may be more properly classified as "out of sight, out of mind."

Terribly sorry that happened to your daughter. It has no place on any college campus--especially on a NESCAC campus, where the respective administrations pride themselves on providing safe environments.

Don't know if you mean to imply that the alleged perpetrator is non-white, but I don't think you could throw a rock in Brunswick, Maine and not hit a white girl. Just an observation.
