Caught the last few minutes of UWRF vs. MN Crookston online......RF won on a fade away from Brennan Witt with 2 seconds left. Announcers said it was his only basket of the game. They also said RF led by 17 at the half before Crookston tied it late. Pearson with 23 according to broadcast

Idk. There have been good players. Koonkaew, Voltz, Manor, Guerin. I would question the numbers on some of those years. I guess I would look at it like who wouldn't want to play in a 63.5 million dollar facility. From worst facility to best. Only other wiac recently to compete with uwsp and uww. Yep I see them doing very well in years to come.
Not sure which numbers you're referring to with your question, but as someone who was there for most of the games from 2000-2015, I can assure you Karges has never been filled close to the level it was during the Melzer years. The exception would be when RF hosted a first round NCAA game in 2012 (or was it 2011). Teams have finished near the tip of the conference in some years but Melzer was the draw. I'd be interested to hear if Fred Falcon agrees

Falcons04--I don't agree that t.o.'s were a big problem for the Falcons last night. They had a total of 11. Last year they averaged over 14. The three guards, Erickson, Buckley, and Sewer each had one last night. In fact, I'm very encouraged by the sure handedness of this year's team--SO FAR. They totaled only 15 t.o.'s in their first two games.
Yes, they struggled in the second half, but The Tommies stepped up their half court D too so we got fewer shots second half, but still hit 47% of those, compared to 55% first half. But more significantly, we took only 8 shots the entire second half compared to 16 first half. Meanwhile, UST got 17 offensive rbds. while we got 4(full game stats).
FF - 11 TO's is not bad at all, but with 7 coming in the second half, I guess that seemed to stick in my mind as more of an issue with RF not handling the press as the lead disappeared. I agree it was the overall intensity of the defense and the fact that RF couldn't seem to get into a rhythm on offense like they did in the first half.

UWRF really struggled with St. Thomas' press in the second half. UST was double teaming the PG after made baskets and RF had numerous TO's. When they did get into their offense it didn't flow nearly as well as the first half. It will be interesting to see if UST can do something similar to a team like Point. I'd imagine Tillema or Ryf wouldn't have the same trouble.
RF has a lot of new faces but like FF said they look like they could at least be competitive. Consistent scoring will be a big question mark and it might take some time for them to settle on the right combination/rotation. Not sure this UST team is comparable to recent years but RF was right there with until late in the game. That was a bit more than I expected tonight.

Attended the Backcourt Club Appreciation day yesterday and took in some practice drills and a short scrimmage drill by Point players. The good news is that all of them were healthy!! 15 on the roster this year, down from 22 last year at this time. Not much height beyond Heuer and 6'7" frosh Gjertson though. Not too much you can tell from a 45 minute practice, but very impressed with Pelkofer, who reminds me of a young Matt Moses.
Two scrimmages set, Friday at Duluth this week and Michigan Tech here next week Friday (2PM starts).
Was perusing the schedule to see what away games I can make trips to and see a tough ending to the year in store for the players. 12/28 vs Whitworth (26-4 #11 D3 Hoops last yr), then 12/29 vs Whitman (19-8 last year) at 6PM (8PM CST). A flight home & then turn around and get on the bus for a 4PM date on 12/31 vs North Central (28-4 #3 D3 Hoops last year). Not sure if any teams have a tougher year end (doubtful), but we'll certainly know what type of team we have after these trips.
From 11/23/13 to 1/25/14 Point plays eight teams in Massey's current top 25 - #2 Whitewater - #3 St Thomas - #4 North Central - #13 Whitworth - #16 La Crosse - #17 Stout - #20 Platteville - #22 Hope.
So, 6'8" VanHandel isn't back on the team this season?? He was showing improvement last season.
Does anyone know about Nate Van Handel?
I think he suffered through some injuries over the past couple of years... they may have become too much.
I'll be attending the scrimmage on Friday against Michigan Tech, so if anyone doesn't answer this question by then, I will. Looking forward to seeing this team in person, I've been excited for this upcoming season since last year ended.
Should be an interesting matchup. MTU has 2 seniors and 3 juniors but they're coming off back to back conference championships and a trip to the NCAA regionals last year.
MTU has a lot more size than Point, but these all appear to be young guys. Of their 11 guys 6'5" or taller, only 1 is an upper classman.
Anyone know how the scrimmage againt Duluth went?
I've been wondering the same thing, anybody?? I know Duluth has been down lately but obviously still a good test for Point.
I heard they played 3, 20-minute games with Duluth winning by 2 in the 1st and 3rd, and Point winning big in the 2nd. Didn't get many other details

RF got outplayed in all phases today by Platteville, who looked like a top three team in the league to me. Very solid and nice contributions from their bench, especially Cory Vaassen who had 7 offensive rebounds. Platteville out rebounds RF 46-23 with 17 offensive boards. RF shot 3/17 from three and 7/17 from the line. Chas Cross had 21 points and showed good moves down low. RF needs to improve their performance if they want to be competitive in the conference.

I went to northwestern last night to watch uwrf.......and from the two games I've seen, it appears their issue this year will be consistency. They started out great against a team with almost no size, but got outplayed from about the ten minute mark of the first half. From that point on, they looked like a group that hasn't had a chance to play together. Other than Ollie white, northwestern was able to handle the bigs by swarming the post with quicker players. The game was won with nw's defense and ability to keep getting long offensive rebounds and turning them into points........seemed like there were at least half a dozen times where they missed a shot only to rebound it and hit a three.
Arik Smith had a solid game and looks to be the breakout player for uwrf this year. Ollie White was solid once again. Uwrf plays @ St. Thomas on Tuesday.
