I would suspect that "Augie Doggies" does not precede the cartoon character of that name.  It may well have even been an invention right here on CCIW Chat.

I have always heard the term "Augie Doggies" attributed more to the Division II Augustana (who are also the Vikings) from Sioux Falls. Although it would not surprise me if CCIW fans and Northern Sun fans each developed the name independently of each other, a lot of those South Dakotans use it fairly frequently.

Augustana defeats Millikin 24-14. I don't have too many details because I was just following a twitter feed that had sporadic updates, but I do know the Vikings had two 4th down defensive stands inside their own 15 yard line in the 2nd half. Big Blue were up 14-0 about halfway through the 2nd Quarter.

Augustana driving on Millikin with about 2 minutes left. Augie up 24-14.

beating up a weaker team is nothing impressive.  Just like I don't think Elmhurst should garner any "cupcake votes" for barely beating Augie.  In fact, Augie stole a defeat from the jaws of victory.  That penalty really made a big difference. It allowed Elmhurst to have more options on a 3rd and 10.

That was the Augustana MO last season, and unfortunately it looks like things haven't changed. Bad penalties and poor defense in the final minutes.

Turns out she didn't see what she thought she saw.  I watched the replay late last night.  The flag came out late as the kid was pulling himself up, so I can see her thinking that's when the foul happened.  It was what I would describe as ticky tack, but they were calling it that way the whole game and on both teams, so nothing to complain about.  The defender came in from behind and wrapped up, apparently his hand grazed the facemask and then he basically slid down the QB before finally getting ahold of the knees and ankles and the QB went down.  As they were getting up the flag came in.

I thought that was the turning point of the game. UD already had great field position, and then instead of a sack, it's 15 yards for the Spartans, they punch it in, and go up 21-14. Then a quick 3 and out gives UD time for a hail mary, and sure enough, one receiver makes a spectacular catch in the endzone. His entire torso was above everyone else, it was pretty good.

Can't complain too much about the call, like you said it was ticky-tack, but the refs were evenhanded about it. It just seemed like that drive simultaneously gave UD the boost they were looking for and took the wind out of Augie's sails.

Dubuque beat Auggie 39-21  Just like the beginning of last season, the kicking game needs a bit of work.  A blocked extra point, a failed 2 point conversion, a missed field goal, and a missed extra point kept the score a bit closer than the stats showed.

By the way, Wyatt Hanus seems to be adjusting to life without Michael Zweifel.  23-31-0 288 yards.

Augustana had no pass defense. Hanus had the opportunity for more, but a had a few big drops by receivers. I thought they had a run D until the 4th quarter, when Dubuque ran the same running play for 5-6 yards a pop. They also didn't tackle very well. This Augustana defense looked woefully similar to last year's in their first game.

Offensively, I thought the Vikings were doing well until the coaching staff switched QB's. The freshman came in, had a quick 3 and out, and everybody just seems out of whack afterwards. Even when they brought the senior back in, it just didn't click. They scored once more on a short field, but they looked pretty tame the rest of the game.

The officiating was bad on both sides. I believe there were 8 personal fouls called in the first half. They just seemed kind of erratic with the whistle out there.

Augustana is looking to go 1-2 vs the IIAC...pretty much the same percentage as they will have in the CCIW...in case they are contemplating pulling a Cornell and looking for an easier schedule in a new conference, so that might not work.  Plus, I'm old school, the Iowa Conference should have Iowa teams.  I do have a sister that lives in Bettendorf, so that would work out well for my family travel wise and would also make a convenient excuse to visit the Mississippi River Distilling Company in LeClaire.

I know I am biased towards Augie, but last year was an aberration, not the norm. I certainly think they can defeat all 3 IIAC teams this year, and move back into the top of the CCIW. Last year the talent was there, but turnovers, special teams miscues, and some coaching errors cost them. Basically all the things good teams don't have an issue with. They need to clear those up, and I fully expect them to.

As for switching conferences, I'm pretty sure that won't happen. Last year was Augie's first losing season since 1978. They are competitive in all sports, and the CCIW is the best fit for them.
Sorry to hi-jack your board for that.
