By the way, you're right about the Man U setup. There's no reason why the camera's microphone couldn't have been turned on. Crowd noise and sneaker squeak is better than watching in silence, and with the camera mic on we'd at least be able to hear the P.A. And Spartans games were carried on local radio as recently as two seasons ago (which was the last time that I took notice of what's going on over at Manchester), with a link of the radio call to the webcast on the Man U website. Dunno why that's not happening anymore. Keep in mind, though, that in terms of athletics bells and whistles the HCAC as a whole is not up to par with the CCIW. Believe it or not, we're at the high end of D3 athletics resources here in our league.
To be fair to the Manchester SID --- he's been on the job for just over 2 weeks.
And it might be useful for me to continue reading ALL the comments before commenting. Looks like Pat beat me to it!

Aaron Tiknis, a former CCIW All-Conference player for North Central, and an assistant coach for the Cardinals for the last 4 years, has been hired as the head assistant at Adrian College of the MIAA.
This strikes me as a weird move --- I had assumed Tiknis would be in line to replace Steve Schweer as their full-time assistant. I also would assume that NCC would pay better then Adrian. Is there another side to this story?

Why wouldn't they do Tuesday, Thursday Saturday? If it's Friday/Saturday, then would the higher seed just host the semis?
I imagine it has something to do with travel expenses, as well as, perhaps mimicking a typical NCAA tournament weekend. As it is stands, the #1 seed will host the two semi-final games and the championship game on Friday / Saturday.

Raridon is averaging about 13pts/game, 6 rebs, 6 assts for both overall and conference only. Leading the league in asst/to. There are 8 first teamers now right? Raridon will be one of them, and he should be.
For some reason, I thought the CCIW had 5 per team over 3 teams.
If this year is the same as last year --- it's two eight person teams. http://www.cciw.org/sports/2017/2/22/MBB_0222171011.aspx?id=2138&

One, a 295 pounder by the name of Jordan Cunningham, got challenged by 145 pounder Colin Lake several times who floated teardrops for points. Cunningham scored four points before he received a technical foul. Coach Scherer then sat Cunningham the rest of the game. After his fifth foul (while scoring three points), MU guard Beaty got a technical as did Lake. All calls took place on the opposite side of the court from me. I suspect all three were due to players challenging calls made by extremely sensitive refs.
One ref, Terry Murphy, called all three technicals. Warning to CCIW players: Keep your yap shut in Terry Murphy's vicinity. He handed Colin Lake a T-bone early in the contest for taunting Levi Laws after Colin had hit a trey over Laws. The T against Cunningham came, as Mark suspected, after the MU big man had challenged a call. And the technical on Michael Beaty came after he had just been DQ'ed with his fifth foul, presumably giving him license in his own mind to tell the officials exactly what he thought of them. Little did he know, apparently, that you can still be T'ed up even after you have fouled out.Quote from: markerickson on January 04, 2018, 01:56:18 PM
Besides the free throw percentage, MU would have benefited if 6' 7" Henry had not missed an easy two-handed slam, which would have been his third dunk of the game.
Yeah, I'd forgotten about that. With NPU up by only four at 64-60 and with a little over three minutes remaining, Beaty penetrated, drawing help defender Matt Szuba off of Henry, and then shoveled a perfect little pass underneath to Henry, who rose up from the right baseline to flush one down. Instead, he launched the ball sky-high off the rim; it should've been accompanied by a cartoon "Boiiiiiing!" sound. Never mind the fact that there's nothing more embarrassing than blowing a dunk in live action (unless it's looking at the PBP in the box score after your team has lost a one-point decision and seeing the words "MISS DUNK by" with your name next to it); the catapulted ball came down into the hands of NPU guard Josh Washburn out near mid-court, and, after Tom Slyder called a timeout to set up a play, Beaty fouled out on a Billy Kirby layup attempt thirteen seconds later and compounded his team's woes by receiving that technical, giving NPU a four-point play from the free-throw line. Combined with the missed dunk it was a six-point swing that took what should've been a 64-62 North Park lead out to a 68-60 North Park lead instead, giving the Vikings the breathing space that they'd need when they started faltering in the game's final two minutes.
Having been on the receiving end of one of those in the past ... I can attest that Terry Murphy is quite liberal in his distribution of the technical foul.

Another fun note from Naperville last night: Connor Raridon moved into North Central's top ten in career assists. He has 205 for his career, and the school record is 273. The way he's playing, I don't think it's out of the realm of possibility that he tops that list by the end of the season. And he still has two more years of eligibility left after this one...
This is more a matter of curiosity --- 273 as the school career assist record seems really low. I compiled the school record holder at each of the conference schools.
AC - Drew Boater - 559
CU - Nate Drury - 402
CC - Record/History Page Not Working
EC - Eric Stark - 375
IWU - Adam Dauksas - 584
MU - Adam Provance - 425
NC - Adam Teising - 273
NPU - No Records/History page on MBB website
WC - Randy Pfund - 478

NP was able to beat U of C the other night, attempting only FIVE FTs the entire game. U of C attempted only SIX. I do not recall in 30+ years seeing numbers that low.
Not missing by much; free throws were 4-6, 4-7 when Millikin played Webster the other night.
2 Thoughts ---
1) The North Park v Chicago game featured two teams combining for 59 three-pointers taken (UC - 29, NP - 30) ... Chicago only attempted 18 non 3's and NP 19. Generally speaking my hunch is that is relatively few shots in the area where fouls tend to be called.
2) In the Millikin v Webster game ... both teams played a substantial amount of zone -- 35% of MU's defensive possessions were zone, while 43% of Webster's were zone. Again --- generally speaking --- teams tend to settle for perimeter jumpers when attacking a zone which tends to lead to fewer foul calls.

The Titans play against "The System" tomorrow afternoon. Rhodes (3-1) won 141-107 today vs Howard Payne. They are averaging 127.8 per game.
IWU last faced the Grinnell System early in the non-conference in 2015-16, when the defeated Greenville 150-117. http://www.iwusports.com/boxscore.aspx?id=3474&path=
Buckle up.
If I remember correctly --- that was the first game that Greenville switched to the system. IWU didn't know they would be playing that style until the JV game immediately preceding the varsity game.
