The way the sub-varsity game is treated at Amherst, at least how they did it last year, is that any players on the roster that received limited or no action in the Varsity game the day before suits up and plays in the sub-varsity game the next day.  It's primarily your freshman and sophomores who have not made it into the two deep.

I can give a little parent's peek into tsome of the questions on offense at Amherst.  It appears that the 6'6" sophomore, Max Lippe is now the front runner at QB.  The bigger surprise is that it looks like the number 2 spot right now is being held down by the newly arriving 21 year old freshman.  Sounds like they may also run a little triple option with one of their other QB's.  At RB, the new freshman is getting a lot of looks with the 1's.  Don't know if he's starting, but he will get a lot of time along with Silva.

Amh63 I can say with knowledge that there are 4 returning QBs plus a freshman in camp for the Jeff's. So far through Sunday, the freshman has been repping only with the 3s. The returning QBs have been ripping with the 1s and 2s.

amh63 you may be right on the QB question at Amherst.  They've got 4 guys on the roster now, three of whom appear to be your more traditional spread offense, big, strong-arm QB's.  I think they range in size from 6'2" to 6'6", and all ran the spread attack in high school.  The fourth guy is more an option QB, 6', 190, who ran the veer and triple option in high school.  So, maybe we'll see some change of pace stuff in the offense.  Who knows.  They do have a huge fullback, 6'3" 230, and some quick smaller backs, so my bet is we'll see running back by committee.  WR is wide open, pun intended.

Regarding football start dates, I can also share that the Lord Jeffs will have an inter-squad scrimmage on the 8th, and will scrimmage Williams, at Williams on the 15th, before getting things going for real on the 22nd.  It should be an interesting few weeks, as they've got a lot of position battles to get settled on during this time especially on offense, where they've lost almost all of their skill players.  They'll have a new QB, new starter at RB, and all new receivers.

That's right. But I know freshmen and certain other groups come a little earlier than the rest of the student body.

Amherst football practice starts August 27th.

Nope, not a member of the squad, but do have a son who plays.

Excuse me. Make that 4 QBs. One junior and three sophomores.

All 3 Amherst QBs on current roster, while inexperienced, were highly regarded coming out of high school. They've got a lot of talent back there, they just need to get them some experience. whoever wins the job is going to be good.

I'm relatively new to this board. My boy will be a sophomore on the Jeff's this year. Any early reads on what this upcoming se arson might look like. What do things look like for the Jeff's repeating?  Who are the primary contenders for the crown this year?  What team will surprise?

Agree. If school like Chicago and Washington U in St. Louis for that matter, can do it and retain their academic standards and reputation, it's difficult to understand why Nescac leadership does not believe its doable.

Good point Frank- not sure what happened to that game--seems like it was 5 years ago or less that I last  remember a period of a time when a Colby or Bates kid was selected for that game over the years  but it has evidently been discontinued.  I have not heard anything in recent years about that game.

That all star game is still active. Amherst sent two of its stars, Bunker and Rawson,  to that game this past December.   The game was played December 17th.
