I would think each team wins out, and that should take care of business.  That said, who knows...especially if Hawkins is out.  We 3 way tied with Coe and Wartburg in 02 and got left out with a non conference loss to Auggie (tons of turnovers and overall rough day).  That was a tough pill to swallow, as I'm sure it would be for Wartburg.  Kind of a dumb tiebreaker...but, who cares if it benefits the Dutch this year.  Seems like they have been snakebitten for too many years.  Also, not to second guess, but this is a message board...don't give up a possession...just not very smart, and not a good message to the team.  Also, say everyone wins out but Simpson, do the Dutch get an at large if Wartburg gets the auto bid?  Hope it doesn't come to that.

If top teams win out, am I wrong that Central gets the auto bid?   Team that's been to the playoffs last?  Long ways to go, but just curious if that was still the 3way tie breaker.

So, it appears Central has managed to schedule 2 away games in the non-con again.  Is this something that has occurred at any other IIAC schools?  I can only assume Central either doesn't mind this setup, or they felt this was the only viable choice.  I can't imagine it being the former.

Well, sometimes that happens.  When you get past the initial sticker shock on that score, you just have to let it go.  Certainly don't like to get rolled on your home field like that, ever, but sometimes even good teams just cant stop the bleeding when the other team gets things rolling.  I think back to the Iowa team that went down to ASU in 2004 and got housed 44-7 (and the late score for Iowa was a kick return for a TD by Walner Belleus, who incidentally went on to play for Dubuque I believe after leaving Iowa).  That Hawkeye team ended up being pretty good (BIG Co-Champs I believe).  Hopefully Central can flush it and regroup...I'm sure this isn't what those 5th year guys came back for.  Was anyone there that can provide some insight?  Was it just a "snowball-effect" or did the Dutch truly not belong on the same field?  I find the latter a little hard to believe given we are just one year removed from an even game last year.

Press release says football helmet decal will remain the old C we know and love.  Bullet dodged as far as I'm concerned.

Here is Central's schedule for 2016
Date   Opponent   Location   Time/Results   Live!
Sept. 3   Whitworth (Wash.)   Spokane, Wash.   1 p.m.
Sept. 10   Augustana (Ill.)   Rock Island, Ill.   1 p.m.
Sept. 17   Buena Vista   Pella   1 p.m.
Sept. 24   Loras   Dubuque   1 p.m.
Oct. 1   Dubuque   Pella   1 p.m.
Oct. 8   Coe   Cedar Rapids   1 p.m.
Oct. 15   Nebraska Wesleyan   Lincoln, Neb.   1 p.m.
Oct. 22   Wartburg   Pella   1 p.m.
Nov. 5   Simpson   Pella   1 p.m.
Nov. 12   Luther   Decorah   1 p.m.

I always like to see new names so I am happy to see Whitworth on the schedule.  I'm pretty sure Auggie just about rebuilt their football facility since the last time I was there so I may have to check that out. If I was going to complain, and I always have to complain, it would be about scheduling the northernmost opponent for the last game of the season.

3rd IIAC school so far that is playing 2 non-con away games.  Not optimal this year, but next year could be nice.

Heading north to play the Norse late in the season.  Which is preferable...mud bowl or snow on the ground?

Hopefully home and home agreements (Augustana has been in the past).  I would have to think 2 years in a row of 4 home games was born out of necessity.

Interesting article...looks like Coe stole one, and some mentions for Morningside.  Really not much serious thought given by these kids to consider IIAC schools, if you believe the article.  In fact, a couple seem to lean against playing all together if not for the big boys.  Need those kids to be competitive nationally, and it feels like that may be the difference between IIAC and elite D3 schools.  Don't really understand it, and not sure what has changed over the years.

Central should definitely let opposing team's bands in for free.  It would automatically increase the game day atmosphere down there by 1000 percent.  Normally I would commend pep band members for volunteering their time, but they should all seriously just stop playing music. I don't even think they're all students.

I'm embarrassed for Central and what they are trying to pass off as an event.  If I was a recruit that wasn't impressed by the history of that program (one that is seemingly in the rear view mirror), I'd be hard pressed to get excited about spending 4 years on those sidelines.  I mean, I've gone to multiple games the past few years folks, and I'd be the first one celebrating a fun and engaging atmosphere...but it's just not, and that hasn't always been the case.  I'd honestly write a letter if I thought anyone down there cared. Seriously, does anyone know what's going on in Pella?

Central used to have a marching band way back in the day...they should bring it back.

Great points...I think the NAIA schools are pretty savvy about how they recruit.  Heard a GV coach on the radio in DSM talking about the Morningside/UWW matchup. He acknowledged when pressed that they essentially recruit the same type of athlete as D3, however they compare more with D2 due to the "scholarships" they offer.  I think they get mileage out of that.

Is there too much small college football in Iowa, i.e. is the talent spread too thin?  I think this is a fair question. Aside from Wartburg's run last year, there hasn't been much to cheer about from a national relevancy standpoint.  Dubuque's recent embarrassment certainly didn't help our cause.  Would like to see the Dutch step up and turn around what has been their most mediocre stretch of football in a very long time. I think they have a shot with a young squad returning a lot next year.

Trying to be a purple fan today. Wartburg did well representing the conference, but any further success will be a detriment to my team. Go purple birds!

How so?

Imagine the recruiting pitch to the kids debating Central or Wartburg if they beat WW. Central is on the cusp of being very relevant again and a Wartburg win could go a long ways delaying or derailing that.

Yeah, I could see that, but in my mind Central just needs to take care of Central. Might be nice for the conference to get some cred back so we have a shot at two in the playoffs again.  I really hate it that it isn't the Dutch in a position to do it though.

Hope the Dutch finish strong today. Seems like a shame to have lost the Monmouth game now more than ever (Monmouth proved to be a quality team the rest of the way).  I think one loss to the Knights would have been enough (obviously assuming a victory over the Spartans today...no easy task).  I guess you can't lose to a MWC team and expect to get any mention as a 2 loss Pool C contender.  My guess is that there will be teams in the field that are not as good as the Dutch.  Congrats on a solid season either way.  Here's to Wartburg making a nice run to get some IIAC street cred back.

I really do hope Wartburg makes a run this year.  Even if they do slip up once (which I don't see), they won't be beaten twice.  The IIAC needs to get some street cred back, so that the second place team might have a shot at the playoffs like they did not that many years ago.  Would be nice if the Dutch could be the team to go get it, but someone has to, so it may as well be the Knights with a shot to go deep.
