I have a sneaky feeling Simpson is going to represent the IIAC this year and win at least their 1st round game.

Central will lose 1 of their final 2 games.
Wartburg will lose to central but won't lose to Loras
Coe will win out
UD will win at least 1 and hopefully both of their final games
Simpson will win out.

That leaves Simpson as champion all by themselves with Wartburg, Coe, and possibly UD tied for 2nd at 5-2 with Central finishing 3rd at 4-3. Followed by BV, Luther, Loras.
in this scenario Central is 5th not 3rd...and why pick Wartburg in the pick'ems and Central here???

I guess if anyone can be counted on to block a critical kick, it is nice having a reigning heptathalon and decathalon national champion on the special team!  Way to go Miller.  Not that Young's run wasn't equally fantastic.

Not sure if you are trying to give credit for the block here but Eric Larson blocked the FG - I think Miller was the previous decathalon national champion from Central - Larson is the current

@Pat: you are the guru. Interesting rule ... I wonder how closely it's actually followed/enforced ???

I know several in the IIAC that do...and I image all do - just not familar with all the programs to be sure

Congrats to the other winners on Saturday as Loras might be in for a long season and that was a big win for Simpson.

I have a friend with a freshman son starting  J.V. for Simpson.  I suggested that he  trek to Dubuque this Saturday.  I think his son may get his first varsity action.  Am I giving him bad advice?  Do J.V. starters get a chance to play in varsity games?

a player can participate in 10 games total - one play constitutes a game - not sure if this helps but it appears more JV players play in varsity games at the end of the season

Are there any places to tailgate at Simpson?  If so, can you have alcohol?

You can always have alcohol (anywhere) if you are clever enough! ;D

Oh. I guess you meant legally. :P

;)  Yes...legally would be a plus.

two tailgate lots at Simpson - one just east of the stadium (south end) one west of the stadium - 1st lot fills up fast - alchohol permitted as long as you keep in in the parking lot and stay under control

Nice job on the Central website.  On the page where they have the Central/Dubuque write up they have a picture of Central playing Loras  ::)

Really???  A Dubuque fan criticizing another school's website...that takes guts

to DLD and Willy, on the Central QB fumble in the second half that Dutch Radio repeatedly commented on being the only play of the game not shown on replay, was he down beforebthe ball came out?  Either way we didn't make the plays we could have to win the game, but since I wasn't there, I'm curious about your non-blue shaded opinion.

We had a good view and it was a fumble.  We were worried, thinking that if none of the refs could see the ball come out that they might rule the QB down.  I am glad the refs got the call correct, because it was a fumble.

I am considering watching the replay tonight because I would like to count the number of drops...by both teams...where the receiver had the ball in their hands and dropped the ball.  I don't know if the wind was causing problems but I felt bad for each teams QB's out there.  That said, receivers from both teams also made some fantastic receptions.

I'll have to look at the drive chart, but I believe Central had 3 trips into the red zone and came away with 3 TD's.  Dubuque had 6 trips into the red zone and came away with 2 TD's, 3 FG's, 1 missed FG and on a 7th drive turned the ball over on downs at about the 22 of Central.  Central certainly had some what ifs to talk about later, but UD has some what ifs from today as well.

disagree - watched the game online - they show the replay - ground caused the fumble - watch and see what you think

Well, you probably do need that lucky lawnmower given that Central has the best offensive, best defensive and  best special team players of the week.  A clean sweep!  Imagine that, you would almost think Central was the only team competing last week.   :D  Gotta laugh at the story on the Central website that fails to mention that little aspect, but it sure sounds good.  Hopefully they can do it this week against the Spartans, and sorry to all the UDers that I insulted by referring to the Duhawks earlier this week.  I must have been really tired at the time.

Now if the Dutch can just get a win and another clean sweep next week, I would be really impressed.

To be fair it'd be hard to argue against any of those 3 players getting the conference award. A 200 yd 3 TD rushing performance, 83% of punts inside the 20 (on a windy/rainy day), and 5 solo tackles (2 TFL and 2 sacks)... It's just not common to see 3 performances like that in 3 different phases of the game on the same team in the same game.

just match up the stats to the previous week when all the other teams played and see how they compare - I haven't even looked so someone with more time than I have can probably take care of this

I think you may be giving Simpson too much credit - I would move Simpson below Wartburg and BV but the rest is probably pretty solid - let's see what Central does vs Albion - If it's another blowout I may move them a notch ahead of Dubuque - we will find out very soon with Simpson/Wartburg and Dubuque/Central in week one of IIAC play

any report on the Dubuque/Oshkosh scrimmage??

Non-conference predictions:

Buena Vista 0-3...very tough (to impossible) non-conference schedule again

Central 2-1...I went back and forth between 1-2 & 2-1 but with two games at home hope the Dutch can get 2

Coe 3-0...not a cakewalk but one IIAC team has to be undefeated after the NC schedule

Dubuque 1-2...too many WIAC  teams on the schedule to do much more

Loras 1-2...hopefully the Duhawks can get one from Rockford on the road

Luther 1-2...triple option trips up one team in the NC

Simpson 3-0...if Simpson doesn't lay an egg could have another 3-0 team heading to the conference schedule

Wartburg 2-1...Bethel on the road is just too tough

Which team has the most difficult pre-conference schedule?

2013 IIAC preseason football poll to be released at noon today -
my prediction on the poll (not my personal predictions)
1.   Coe
2.   Wartburg
3.   Central
4.   Dubuque
5.   Buena Vista
6.   Simpson
7.   Loras
8.   Luther

Reverse Simpson and BV for coaches poll. My poll will certainly be different as well  ;D
Interesting - that was where I went back and forth as well because of Nelson and Vogel but I thought BV may get some love for finishing strong  :)
