Just got a first look at SJU's roster. I am looking forward to seeing how FY Ludwig of Alex does in the coming years. I know he will surly help the track team any other FY that you are excited to see play?

So I don't normally post on the basketball board but all hey I guess I am "in the know" as far as Hamline topics go. I graduated in 02 but I have a sibling that is going to be a junior. I have had many conversations with coaches and athletes on Financial aid. First with the cost increasing 10k since I graduated (and not just at HU) there is a greater financial burden on the students but not just at Hamline. I know the financial aid that I recieved was better than the package I got from SJU and friends of mine said theirs was better than GAC or Olaf. UST is the only school that seemed to come up with $$$$ that was rather absurd at times. More recently I have talked with people that have made their decision on schools based on dollars and for the most part schools are within 2k of each other and there hasn't been a set pattern of what school was passing out the cash. But a 7-10K difference I never heard if fact my brother-in-law had a 6k difference in going to HU or the U OF M incidently he didn't choose either.

As always it's good to hear from you Willy. It appears that I must offer some clarification.
First off, my statement about Hamline and financial aid packages has nothing to do with defending Coach Wohler. I think that those of us "in the know" on this message board will all agree that schools like UST, GAC and SJU put way more money into their athletic programs than say Hamline, SMU, and Concordia. A perfect example are "leadership" and "minority" scholarships, that year in and year out get used to assist student-athletes at schools mentioned above. Hamline does not have many of these scholarships and if they do, their value is a lot less than a comparable one at a MIAC counterpart or it is distributed to a non-athlete.
Bottom line - As an example, just look at the track record of the three schools I mentioned above over the past 10 seasons and then look at Hamline's. You cannot tell me that $$$$ has no correlation to winning at the Division 3 level, or for that matter any other. Coach Wohler and his staff had the program headed in the right direction, including recruiting two all-conference freshmen in Jon DeRock and Tony Thrasher. Still, while the Pipers showed consistent improvement in his first few seasons, there was little chance, IMHO, that they would be able to hit that top three level or four on a consistent basis.
As a final example, let's say you have a Division I or II transfer. If he can go to UST, GAC or SJU for free or very little OR he can go to Hamline for say $7-10k/yr which do you think he's going to choose 9.9 out of 10 times?
And the use of "Mr." is never a slap in the face. If anything it's a compliment.
Drake - I tried not to paint such a bleak picture, but you're right. I hope to meet Coach Whitmore at some point this season and ask him about Hamline and why he found it so attractive. I too hope that he did his research and that if in fact he was promised anything that the HU administration follows through.

This case has red flags all over the place!! First WTF is a 14 year old doing at a college party, second obviously this wasn't a first time thing seeing instead of the parents being worried about their daughter they call the cops and file a runaway report, third just because some people at the party knew the girls age it doesn't mean He knew.
When I was a Sophmore in college I had a friend hookup with a girl at one of our Hamline parties she was the sister of a girl that was a junior we were told she was a freshman and all of us figured in College well about two hours later back in the dorm room we find out she was just about to turn 15 and was a freshman in HS, luckily he found out just before it went too far. He was inches away from having the same type of thing happen to him.
very very unfortunate mishap. I guess we will have to wait to hear more before judgement can be passed. I just want to know did he know she was 14?

I watched a Dr. Phil rerun last night during which he proclaimed "The way to achieve inner piece is to finish all the things you have started and never finished."
So, this morning I looked around the house to see all the things I started and didn't finish. Before leaving for work, I finished 11 cans of Bud, a bottle of Grey Goose, a package of Oreo's, half a bag of Dorito's and the rest of the cheescake...
You have no idea how freaking good I feel!!
I hope you left the 2 month old moldy chili alone or we may have to send the paramedics to pump your stomach.

So the time has come for me to return from my 9 month hibernation from PP . Hope all is well with everyone. Looking forward to another great MIAC football season. I just hope the two teams I will be intently watching this season win more than 5 games between them.

JR-TDT says we are starting at 8:00, just like last year, remember? In any event, we will be there early to secure the spot. Hope you get done by Thursday night and are on the road Friday.
Maybe you should change some things from last year as that didn't work too well . lol

November 26, 2006, 12:06:24 PMQuote from: BoBo on November 26, 2006, 08:52:00 AMI have always felt LaX is the second best team in the West Region (and I made that comment weeks ago on the WIAC PP) and the one team that would give WW the strongest test prior to a potential rematch with MUC, not just because they are WW's chief rival and know them so well, but because of their talent level. That's not to say the Johnnies don't have talent, they do, but I think the Eagles are stronger.
So let me get this right LAX just scratches by against Bethel, playing without the MIAC's best player and playing the final 3 quarters without two or three of their top defenders, and they are the second best team in the West you cannot be serious! The top two teams in the West are the teams playing for the west title LAX stayed in the game this last week against UW-WW just as St. Thomas is often able to play with St. John's with an inferior team. The teams know each other so well and the intense rivalry.

Thank goodness we can buoy the MIAC playoff record even with Bethel dragging it down.
amen to that. Don't worry the Pipers will never get a chance to pull that record down unless they expand to a field of 125.
