Quote from: algernon on March 03, 2025, 04:21:03 PMHowever, I'm still not clear on whether the NYU men or the NYU women have the priority on hosting the second weekend.  The women have the priority the FIRST weekend.  Do they continue to have priority the SECOND weekend, or will the NYU men have priority the second weekend?

Men have priority second weekend this year.

Thanks for the info, el_jefe_90.  That's good for the Yellow Jacket men!

Quote from: Brian Hamilton on March 03, 2025, 03:32:51 PMIf HSC wins the first two games, they are likely headed to NYU for a neutral site game with Tufts.

That would likely be the case, if NYU also wins their first 2 games.

However, I'm still not clear on whether the NYU men or the NYU women have the priority on hosting the second weekend.  The women have the priority the FIRST weekend.  Do they continue to have priority the SECOND weekend, or will the NYU men have priority the second weekend?

Guilford travels to Emory, with a first round game against Berry.  They would not face another ODAC team until the Final Four.

Roanoke travels to CNU, with a first round game against Pfeiffer.  RMC travels to Franklin & Marshall, with a first round against Westfield State.  If the Maroons and Yellow Jackets win their first weekend pods, they will meet in the Sweet Sixteen, which might be at Trinity (Conn).

Hampden-Sydney hosts, with a first round game against Bryn Athyn.  Pitt-Bradford and The College of New Jersey are also coming to Kirby Fieldhouse.  The Tigers wouldn't face another ODAC team until the national championship game.

d3hoops is predicting that Hampden-Sydney (NPI seed #10) and Roanoke (NPI seed #21) will both host a first-round group.  RMC (NPI seed #5) would certainly be hosting a first round, except that their women have priority for Crenshaw this coming weekend. NCAA selection show is coming up at 12:30pm.

Quote from: rmc1982 on February 27, 2025, 04:28:33 PMJust doesent seem right for them to stumble like this late and I'm not just talking about this one game. Thoughts??

The Tigers certainly stumbled on Wednesday evening, but they have also beaten Virginia Wesleyan by 19 and Guilford by 7 during the past 3 weeks.  Although HSC lost to #19 Roanoke almost 2 weeks ago, the Maroons are a tremendous team that beat the Quakers by 25 points the week before they beat the Tigers by 9.  If Roanoke gets past Lynchburg in the 4:30 game tomorrow afternoon, they could very possibly finish as ODAC Champs on Sunday.  It is a very tough conference, and I think that the ODAC will get at least 3 tournament bids (RMC, HSC, and Roanoke) and maybe 4 bids (Guilford, too).

With their loss to Lynchburg, the Tigers might have lost their opportunity to host the first couple of games. They might travel to Emory, CNU, or NYU.  We're still hoping they will be one of the 16 teams to host the first weekend's games!

Quote from: Brian Hamilton on February 15, 2025, 09:07:27 PMSeat filler,
Roanoke is tied at 2 with HSC.  They split the regular season, so that doesn't break the tie.  So I believe it goes to a point system based on seeding.  I believe HSC would beat Roanoke out on that based on their win over Macon and Roanoke's loss.  Someone more knowledgeable can correct me if I am wrong.

It would become very interesting if Macon were to lose one of their remaining 2 ODAC games because that would put HSC, RC, and RMC in a three-way tie.

I think you're right, Brian.  And, if RMC loses another game (perhaps to VWC tonight) and there is a 3-way tie for the regular season champsionship (with all teams having 14-2 conference records), I believe that the seeding for the tournament would be:
#1 HSC (2-1 against RMC and Roanoke),
#2 RMC (1-1 against HSC and Roanoke),
#3 Roanoke (1-2 against HSC and RMC).

For that reason, I'm rooting for the Marlins tonight.  ;)

Quote from: bbfan44 on March 14, 2024, 07:40:28 PMCongrats to HS on their win.  The guys announcing the game called them Hamden, totally ignoring the letter P.  Is that how it is really pronounced , or were they just not enunciating?
Were they really dropping the "p"?  The correct pronunciation of Hampden-Sydney College definitely includes a "p".  See https://youtu.be/Aj_b-cxtftw?si=C3QmyfA7uoav5V0-

Quote from: rmc1982 on March 06, 2024, 05:26:16 PMExcuse me algernon- from RIC to Ashland is 26.1 miles via I295 with a speed limit of 70MPH, and most people drive about 78MPH, it would take you 20.0769 minutes.
Yes, it would take you 20.0769 minutes if you drove the entire trip at 78mph, including the 1.5 miles from the I95 exit through the town of Ashland to the college.  That's a funny idea.  Google Maps says that it's 33 minutes from the airport's arrivals terminal to Crenshaw Gym.

Not that this has anything to do with hosting a sectional ....

Quote from: rmc1982 on March 04, 2024, 10:00:14 AM... if they were looking at a less expensive option flying two teams into Richmond and busing then 20 minutes( at most) into Ashland is certainly cheaper than busing them 2-2.5 hrs to FarmVille with much less hotel space available....

You're just making driving times up, rmc1982.  Richmond International to Ashland is 29 minutes (not "20 minutes at most") and Richmond International to Farmville is only 1 hour, 21 minutes (not "2-2.5 hrs").  It's not that the distance from the airport even matters to the decision, but at least make your argument with reference to the actual driving-time facts.

By the way, Farmville has had more than adequate hotel space for visiting teams on the many occasions that HSC has previously hosted athletic events, including NCAA sectionals.

Trinity is a heavy favorite over their NESCAC opponen, having already defeated Tufts by good margins twice this year, so I expect the Elite Eight game on Saturday will be Trinity vs. RMC/Calvin.

The Jackets travel is totally predictable, given the NCAA's "500-mile rule" and the distance from Tufts to Macon.

Tigers host LaRoche (17-10).  In a different quadrant of the bracket, Guilford hosts.  In a third quadrant of the bracket, RMC hosts Baruch (19-8), and Virginia Wesleyan goes to Trinity College (in Hartford) to play Swarthmore (20-8).  So the ODAC could, theoretically, have 3 teams in the Final Four (HSC, Guilford, and RMC/VWU).

Great win for the Quakers yesterday in Greensboro:

Guilford 83, Emory 80 in OT.

Lots of ties and lead changes, but Guilford prevailed.

Tyler Dearman with 31, including 14/14 FTs.  Team was 24/29 from the line.

That's an outstanding win for the Quakers. Emory had a couple of exhibition game wins against D2 opponents and are pre-season #19. Guilford is just outside the top 25, but could crack that group when the next poll comes out. There will probably be a lot of changes in the Top 25 after this next round of voting.

With a 2-2 record RMC will surely drop out of the top 25.

I expect the Tigers will move up from #8 to #5 or higher.  The Quakers will likely move up from "#26" to #20-25.

When is the voting for the next Top 25?  Sunday the 26th?

BTW, for my HSC brethren, I saw somewhere on the Interweb that a 6-9 player is headed to HSC.

Clements, Harris, Turner, and Taylor are all seniors but have eligibility left.  I don't know their plans.
