Tough loss for the Hawks heading into Christmas break - but what a game!

Wish I could have watched this live...guess the offense woke up but what happened to defense?? Mitchell and Doyley combined for a crazy 58 pts.

Nice to see Donovan and Sowah light it up tonight for NP - looks like from the box score Hawks lost this one due to TOs - 25 to Buff St's 10.

Looking forward to this rematch in the Hawk Center later this year.

Not sure about McCrae...no one seems to much about it...Very frustrating to lose a ROY like that...Hawks lack a true big under the boards - although we out rebounded Buff St 46-36 tonight -- so it isn't impacting us in that dept...

Enjoy the holdiays all...I'll try and be a more diligent poster in the 2nd 1/2 of the season.  :D

Haha...Magic...some of us have to do a thing called 'real work'!  ;)

No doubt it's been a tough stretch for the Hawks...Sowah was out last Tuesday vs. Eastern Conn because I believe he was a little banged up after the game vs. Mount St Mary's...guess Coach Rejniak wanted rest him before conference play.

Hope we show up this afternoon but Mitchell has been a force...must be fun to have a scorer Bengals!...

Hawks need to put the ball in the bucket...they've had as many looks on offense as their opponents but their shooting % is not good. They're young and need to learn to execute under pressure.

Anyway...go Hawks!

Hawks looked pretty unimpressive last night. No defense against the screen - hence all the 3ptrs and absolutely no ball movement.

Nothing from Sowah or Andrew Joseph last night...need starters to step-up if we're going to compete! Vassar seems completely reenergized with new coach - they could be very good in their conference.

Heard at the game last night McCrae is out this season due to family issues...sure missed him last night!

Have Delaware Valley this weekend - haven't done much to scout them - but they were another NCAA team. Hopefully Hawks can step up to the challenge!

Tough to see those Massey ratings drop. Oh well! It's still early!  :)

Happy basketball season everyone. Nice to see everyone back in full posting action.

Hawks have home opener vs. Vassar College tonight. Looking forward to seeing them live after the great Cali trip. Very different team this year without Devine and Taylor - but from what little I've seen - I like the way box scores have looked. Rejniak seems to have recruited depth over a single superstar...some intriguing freshman to keep an eye on - Andrew Seniuk and Kewan Beebe.

Great to have shooter Nick Taldi back and Sowah is looking to have his breakout year.

Don't see last year's ROY on the roster...wondering where big man Devino McCrae is? Wondering how the Hawks will fare without McCrae under the boards.

Vassar went 1-1 on opening weekend and have a new coach...we won by a fairly large margin last year but gotta watch out for sophomore Mrlik...he's avg. 20.5 ppg.

Looks like this is the only game in the 'YAC tonight...Go Hawks - Go SUNYAC!

Well - tough to prove your opponents wrong when you're shooting 26.9% and 27.1% from the 3. Man - would have loved for the 'OTHER' NP team to show up tonight - but looks like no matter how much I wanted to prove dcahill wrong - Hawks are playing like crap again tonight (15 TOs to 5!).

Knew Cortland was going to be out for blood tonight - but come one guys - you've got to play defense! You've got to protect the ball! The wins this weekend were great - but it's so frustrating to have the guys come out and blow it.

Sorry Bengals - hoping Fredonia can pull off the upset - but I don't think it will happen - Buff is too fast and too athletic.

And PS - Dcahill - I know the Hawks have been up and down this season - but no supporting cast is not very accurate. See Taylor Sowah, Andrew Joseph and Kevin Roach. Nevermind frosh Deveino McCrae had 16 rebs over Buff the other night. No other team in the YAC is getting the production out of its frosh class like the Hawks... unfortunately - you seem to have only seen NP at its weakest (vs. Naz? Geneseo/Brockport?)

Feel better Magic.

Great wins for the north country duo tonight. Congrats.  Wish thati could saythe same for my BENGALS but the Hawks just wouldnt lay down. Creditgoes to Shareef Taylor ( almost a triple double with his 6 blocks) and Co
This 1 hurt!!

Need a win at Oneonta worse than ever.

I imagine ill hear from Hawkbill soon

Haha bengals - Simmons and epps are crazy good - S. Taylor went on a tear yesterday afternoon and it was insane. Still not comfortable though - team has been known to play great on a Friday and then blow it on Saturday (see brockport/geneseo weekend) but I hope they do it.

PS I think Simmons got his 2000th point yesterday? What an accomplishment.

Poor poor showing from the Hawks last night... 5 pts from S. Taylor? D-I talent that can't hack it in D-III...frustrated fan this morning. Donovan looked like a freshman last night. Big man McCrae could be ROY but doesn't play to his strength. Boys show moments of brilliance but can't get it together.

Given the impending snow storm this weekend - I think at least Friday's game might get cancelled - and New Paltz will need a win over Fredonia to even be able to sniff the playoffs - nevermind a must-win over Buff State. Cortland will be looking to kill NP at home next Tuesday, after the upset a few weeks ago.

Was hoping they might be able to crack the top 6 - especially after a strong weekend - but the Hawks have flip-flopped too many times. Coach Rejniak needs to figure out how to get some consistency out of his players next season.

Will keep the faith - but that light is fading fast down in the Valley!

New Paltz gets a big 3 pointer from Matt Devine with 4 seconds left after a Plattsburgh miss on their possession and the Hawks come from behind and defeat Plattsburgh 75-72. Not a happy camper about the turn of events. >:( :o

Could well mean a road game for Cards in the Playoffs.  Devine is a stud.

Bear - have to say your Potsdam group are a battle weathered group...sorry to see so many of them beat up...I saw pierce talk to coach rejniak at the end of the game - kids have a lot of class.

Haven't felt like posting because the Hawks had given away too many close opportunities and I thought we were done for the season. Coach rejniak shuffled his starting line up and is now starting three of his freshman.

Donovan seems to run the offense much better - seen better ball movement in the last three games than the majority of the season. Manning, with all his aggressive d gave him trouble yesterday, but Donovan will learn. Also have seen a lot of growth from Kevin Roach.

So happy for Shereef Taylor and Devine - Reef logged his 4th dbl/dbl of the season and had some monster blocks. Missed some key free throws but sank the big 3. Devine was the hero ... Would love for these two to keep it going for their senior year and shock the YAC... We will see... Never seem to know which team will show up.

All I know is hawks have the most dangerous frosh class in the league - will be fun to watch them develop - regardless how the season shakes out.

Nice to see Shereef Taylor get the nod for 'YAC POW...when the kid wants to turn it on - he is one of the most athletic players in all of DIII.

Thanks @thebear for giving the nod to Devine - while his stat line may not be as lights out as last year - the kid is such a leader both on and off the court. Many more hands capable of handling the ball this year @ NP vs. last year. Devine looked like the old Matt vs. Cortland though - he is deserving in my book!!

A little hesitant to comment on Oswego/Hayden Ward until we see them next Tuesday - competition has been really tight all around in the 'YAC this year - but Oswego's out of conference schedule is a joke compared to everyone else's...a little too early to give it to Ward - Oswego played well this weekend against Buff - but I think Buff is the better team.

We'll see next Tuesday!! Also gearing up for one tough weekend in North Country- should be interesting to see how that turns out!

first off - happy new year everyone.

second - was a great night for the underdogs last night. finally new paltz came out strong and consistently played together - rather than trying to make it a one-man show...still trying to figure who that one man is after those 3 terrible losses to geneseo, hamilton and delaware valley. also, played much stronger d - np has been terrible defending the 3 this season. much smarter ball tonight.

hawks also did a great job of taming jesse winter (even though he still had 20!) - came out strong with those big 3's but they held him to 4 pts. in the 2nd half.

interesting, yet useless hawk stat? new paltz is 12-0 in 2nd halves this year.

facing a much tougher-than-their-record-reflects oneonta team saturday. hopefully the boys get a streak going. also a tip of the hat to coach rejniak last night - spanbauer and his crew are tough. way to finally make it happen.

Not much to say tonight. Not sure who that team was that showed up today. Ouch - Geneseo did everything right - strong fundamentals the whole game. NP lacked energy the whole first half - 18 pts. is less than what Devine alone is averaging per game. Outscored 45-44 in the 2nd half - but again - too little, too late.

We'll get back to it Tuesday against Hamilton.

Heck of a win for the Hawks tonight - I was really hoping they'd do it - and do it they did. Devine had 27pts., Taylor - 20 and Joseph logged his first double-double of the season with 12 and 10. Brockport was tough the whole way - very physical and athletic. Usually a team that can shoot the 3 - but tonight - we were able to hold them to 25% - and going into tonight's game - they were at the top.

Big win for the program - but can't celebrate too much - facing a tough Geneseo team tomorrow - but like the matchups. Now you know how we feel in NP Bengalsrule - all these close games are too stressful!

Bengalsrule - thanks - looking forward to some healthy debate - and Buff was lights out in the first 5 minutes on Saturday - Rod Epps and Jake Simmons together are the real deal. (Video crashed after 1st half). Looking forward to the rematch in February!

New poster on the 'YAC board - NP alum. Great to see all the commentary on the 'YAC boards - just thought you needed someone who isn't a Card or a Bengal posting on here.  :)

Just wanted to defend my Hawks who I think are underrated this season - yeah - they have some issues to work out - but Coach Rejniak has recruited a monster freshman class that just hasn't come into its own yet (see McCrae - moments of brilliance and then there was last night where he looked like a freshman). Rejniak had a team of 9 last year - after he lost a handful of players to disciplinary and academic issues. He's had some rebuilding to do - and he's getting the job done. Clearly the team has a lot of talent in Devine, Taylor and an underrated Jenkins - but they need to get better at playing as a unit on offense. Need to get the ball to Devine more often - the guy only had four shots last night in the 1st half. When these guys are on - they're great - they outscored Buff in the 2nd half last Saturday. They wouldn't quit last night. Just can't capitalize. Last year - those games are lost by 15+ even with Wichard.

Rejniak has scheduled a tough non-conference schedule - he's not padding his schedule - and it's the only way Hawks will improve to be able to compete with the big guys in the YAC.

Other key players to watch are freshman Roach and Pearlman who have been subbing at the #4 and #5 this year - two aggressive kids who will only improve. Junior Taylor Sowah and transfer Andrew Joseph show promise as well.

Hopefully they can put the pieces together for this weekend.
