I too wanted a reset at Fisher as I thought that it was time. Give the credit where it is do- Vos put Fisher on the map and created a great program that unfortunately has fallen off said map. He deserves the accolades, and he obviously is admired by his peers and players. Name the field after him and do an extensive search- one that isnt a knee jerk kind of thing that sets the program back even further.

I think that we need to address the elephant in the room.
It's time for a hard reset.
While the Fisher faithful are grateful to Coach Vos for all he has done for the program, it seems time for a new regime to take the reins and spark some life into this program. In the meantime, Ill glance at scores and look forward to Lax season as they trend upward on the national scale!

Fisher's uniforms are awful. Maroon/cardinal helmets, black jerseys, white pants? It looks like they're wearing parts of three different uniform combinations.
Say less
Horrible

I had already left Fisher when Vos came aboard - but had friends that played for him all those years ago.
They said he had the vision and tenacity to make the program great- even while taking gut punches for a few years as the program built. Watching the rise and ultimate fall of the program is gut wrenching and have had friends on the team in many different years. The one constant is Vos, the losses of key and I mean KEY OC's and DC's who have gone on to much bigger things is inevitable. It is not just the recruiting that is killing Fisher but I believe that what used to be the cornerstone program of the college is now just well- another program. Fisher isnt a Football school anymore. Hell- if you had to pick a sport- Fisher Lax is the real up and coming program on a national level.
He's not getting any help from Admissions and the leadership of the school like he used to...
With that being said, he hasn't adjusted. They aren't getting the kids in they used to and yet they're running traditional college schemes on offense and defense. They need to get creative within the program and change it up...
Run the option or something, it masks so many deficiencies. Do something besides trying to throw it with lineman that can't pass block, QBs that can't throw and receivers that can't get open...
Something has to give here. You can only wonder what the program would look like with Fox or Fitzpatrick at the helm...
FA91's son interviewed at the alma mater and I was super pumped and proud that Fisher was one of his top 2 schools. The tour was just a monumental disaster- 3/4 kids in the tour were athletes and the guide brushed off the facilities, Growney and sports in general. Hell we didnt even get to see a classroom. Just the dorms, Lavery Library the science bldg and the dining hall. He was treated like a number-something that I promised him WOULDNT happen at Fisher ever- and even with me reaching out to contacts at the Admissions office to try to remedy- the damage was done and to make it worse that FA package was a joke. He went to his number one choice and couldnt be happier. He found a home and Fisher was NOT it. I asked a few of his classmates who also went on tours and interviews and the experience was eerily similar-to the point that when I mentioned to my contact at Fisher that I really would like an opportunity for my son to go to my Alma Mater- I even gave the actual number being floated by the other University - they simply said no..While I love my alma mater because of the experience that I had there, I cant but help that the University hassnt made a wholesale change in its philosophy. Sad really.

Several reasons:
Administration not supporting the needs of the program.
Can't recruit like they used to, they seem hell bent on recruiting out of state kids while any D3 talent from WNY goes elsewhere.
Coaching staff out of touch with newer offensive & defensive trends that are prevalent in college football.
Newer conference competition with easier academic requirements for admission.
With the lack of talent they want to run basic offenses & defenses and are just getting out played, out muscled and out classed in terms of the level of player on the field.
Im not sure about academic requirements-I think it is more about packaging. Its also about coaching.
Sure- I rambled on here about admin support back in the old days- how Doc Bain and Doc K backed the program- but with the other programs thriving - is it really a lack of support? I think the first look is at the Football program itself. It has failed to evolve and allowed other conference foes to surpass them in a short time. You cant tell me that Blaise is going after a "different" player at UU. Simply put Fisher does not recruit well in their own back yard or even the thruway.

As a parent of 4 you have to look into EVERYTHING when it comes to education.
Sticker price, Grad rates, placement rates etc.
It always drove me nuts when fellow parents would rip on cost of private Higher Ed and applaud state edus
One word for any parents out there looking-
If everything is equal- look for the hidden fees and conditions of "free tuition"
Excelsior is amazing- but holy smoke read the fine print!
So very true. I have 2 adult children and there are so many factors involved. And there is no such thing as apples to apples comparison. It's a fruit salad. Apples to oranges to grapes to pineapple to cherries etc....drives you nuts. And it isn't always about money. You want your kid to be in a place where there is a fit and they can become successful (by whatever definition they use to define success).
My son decided on a technical college and has a degree in Network Security. My daughter started at JMU and transferred to CNU after one semester. Long story but she couldn't chase her dream while at JMU. She graduated Magna Cum Laude with a degree in Economics and became a professional dancer. She's old (32) and now choreographs and teaches. I like to ask her how it feels to be "washed up" at 32!!!
Both kids had students loans that, fortunately, were paid off quickly. I am so glad that part of life is behind me. Best of luck to you and your kids!
Cheers!
Cheers to you as well.
2 in currently Oneonta State and St. Bonaventure U
Polar opposite colleges --perfect fits for the kids.
Now to get the rest of thr crew out of the house and Mrs 91 and I can have some quiet! :-)

"Support"
I get that these schools are all competing for the same kids essentially.
Sure there are some institutions that have a traditionally higher tuition, but in the grand scheme the kids are the same bunch.
Some may think that state schools have a tuition advantage- not so fast my friend- I have 2 in college now- one at a SUNY - one at a private.
SUNY has cost us MORE than the private even though tuition is in the very high 30s!

I think this speaks volumes.
For Fisher I can speak to Dr K and Doc Bain who openly backed not only the football program but athletics as a whole.
I do not know Dr. Rooney so I cant speak to the current admin, but there was a different vibe in the late 90s and early 2000s on the Fisher Campus.
Prior to that time the admin had an openly adversarial relationship with the AD as well as the athletics as a whole especially from 87-91.
Cost is an issue as well.
I wanted FA91 son to be a legacy- but when scholarship money was compared- Fisher was literally 20k higher per year after the scholarship moneys!

Boys- Its a sad state of affairs for the Fisher program these days.
They do have a good bunch of kids - but for some reason they are getting lit up.
I mean Marietta?
Those games were supposed to be sleepwalks.
Now my gut tells me that Wilkes or Keystone could take em.
Jeeez- how the mighty have fallen

Fisher is a little nicked up and ran into a buzzsaw in Troy. They best right the ship asap or they are staring at 2-4 in the face!

Bartman- the game looks to be a good one!
My concern on the Fisher side is if they can get the passing game in sync.
Beating Fram State and Buff state while struggling is one thing- but beating Hobart is completely different.
I look back to days past when I went back for a certain reunion and watched Fisher get torched by Hobart- good thing the beer was free and the weather was nice that day!
